Thanks folks

The worrying thing really is that she's not acting like she's an ill dog, which I would expect if this was 'just' an infection  But this has to be something, and the most likely reason is a big nasty. I'm hoping the lab results come through tomorrow, I'll update tomorrow night

Skeeter is beautiful  I hope the news tomorrow is 'fixable'. I'm hoping that your little girl is a stubborn little soul and a fighter hence her current 'there's nowt' wrong with me' behaviour . Please let us know how she gets on :GroupHug: :GroupHug:

First chance I've had to get online tonight, sorry :)

Lab results are in but vet wants us to go down on Monday night to have a long chat and discuss 'options' :(

Looks like it's not cancer and is probably an infection which seems to be contained to this one area. I'm not sure exactly how and why though. From our first 'what if' talk I think we'd be looking at very invasive and rather nasty surgery if we take that route but I'm not sure what else we can do right now.

They're going to run more tests though.

So, we have to wait till Monday now :(

Skeets has had the remains of our chips from tea, a huge play fight with Dylan and is now fast asleep snoring

OK, we're still a bit  here

Had a long chat with our vet and a good look at the xrays, scan and lab results and we're still not sure what exactly is going on inside Skeeter. Her lab tests show mainly signs of infection but there are some abnormal cells too which is making us slightly suspicious that there's some sort of tumour there. BUT the xray and scan show an area of mainly thick fluid that's contained to this one area. It's right under her lung, pressing it up to about half the size it should be and also pushing her heart over slightly.

If it was a definite tumour then the answer would be a definite no-no for surgery. As it's not definite then we may be able to opt for surgery to clear out the area and try to find what is causing it. Huge problem though is where it is and the very distinct possibility that her lung may be damaged. The surgery would be very complicated....they'd probably have to remove at least one rib to get in there enough....and not guaranteed to help remove this completely. The risks are great.

So, for now, we're having the xray, scan and labs results looked at by a specialist to get a better idea of the risks involved and what they think would need to be done. We've got to go back on Thursday for an update.

My gut instinct is that we may not be able to safely do anything other than make sure Skeeter's comfortable. If we can go for surgery then she'll have to go to Edinburgh to be operated on :(

Meanwhile, Skeeter is still bombing round like a loon, play fighting with Dylan, eating etc normally and other than the very occaisional cough she's acting like a normal 10 year old. It's bizarre.
