Cuddles
I've not really been on here much but I know that tracey.s. is doing some fundraising for this little girl and some of you would like to 'meet' her, so here she is... and hello from me. Please meet Amber She's one of 7 puppies that were handed into Pups and Muts care at the beginning of December. While her litter mates are nearly ready to go to their new homes, Amber will be staying on here for a while as a foster. With hindsight, she had her first fit when she was around 5 weeks old. She was really quiet, reluctant to walk and not interested in food one evening. The vet suspected she may have had a poorly tum and by the morning she was back to her normal self so we just put it down as that. The first fit we witnessed was when she was 7 weeks old. It lasted for a few minutes then she was out cold for the rest of the night. We were told to monitor her. She didn't have a fit for a couple of days, then fitted on and off continously for a couple of days. She was put on medication to try and get them under control which touch wood (bar one fit the other night) it seems to have done. The biggest threat to her at the moment is that she has fluid on her lungs that she's inhaled while she's been fitting. The antibiotics seem to be kicking in though as she's moving it when she coughs. The vets have told us that her prognosis isn't great as she's fitting at such a young age. There could be a number of factors causinng her fits. She's had blood tests done that show a raised urea level which could indicate a liver shunt. She won't be able to have the test to see if it is a liver shunt until she's 12 weeks old. It could also be a birth/brain defect, a trauma to the head or various other things. I wrote all this out the other day- an update. She had her second vaccination yesterday. She also had valium to try and stop her fitting because of the vaccine. She seemed fine last night, but this morning, she had a pretty big fit lasting a few mins. She's been out of it all day, I managed to wake her up for long enough to get her meds down her but other than that she's un-responsive to anything. She's also swallowed a load of foam again, making her really chesty and rattle when she breathes . If any one could spare any positive thoughts for this baby they would be appreciated. ReikiAnge
Oh bless her Will send Reiki for her - and would be happy to put her details/photo onto the Reiki lists I belong to (by email) if that's ok with you/the rescue Really hope she will get stronger and manage to live a good life. I think a couple of people on here may have experience of liver shunts with their dogs.

joa
Amber is running free at the bridge She'd picked up gastroentiritis (the treatement of which involves plenty of fluids), however the fluids were building up even more so on her lungs. The treatment of fluid on her lungs involved steroids (which would make the gastroenteritis worse). So it was a no win situation. She'd been on fluids and antibiotics since yesterday to try and perk her up a bit, but was an extremely poorly baby this morning. The vet couldn't see her making a recovery so the descision was made to have her pts.
