EGAR
I am currently in a discussion on another board with several peeps who tell me that a nosehug only works between dogs but never between human/dog. I have been trying to explain to them that I have used nosehugs for years now successfully in stubborn mouthers for example. Anyone on here uses them? EGAR
Dogs use nosehugs amongst themselves quite often. Especially bitches with their pups. They *hug* the mouth of the offender with their own mouth and this sends quite a strong message that the behaviour was wrong. I got a pic somewhere of two of my dogs doing it, I'll dig it up and post it. Toughy giving a nosehug to Bogey as Bogey has occudied a chair which *belongs* to Toughy as he is higher in rank as the Pit Bull. http://www.hundezeitung.de/4images/details.php?image_id=
cycas
I never knew that had a name. Mollydog does that to Az quite often. I thought she was just excited.
EGAR
No, it is actually a sign of dominance in which the higher ranking dog corrects the lower ranking one for an offence. Edited December 16, 2007 by EGAR
murtle
I've seen that done by humans to dogs, by mimic-ing the same action with their hands. (not with their mouths though....do you do it with you mouth Sarah??!) xx
phoebejo
Lizzie used to do that to Zara before Zara got ideas above her station and turned to violence
EGAR
God NO . I do it with my hand without applying too much force ie pain. I have yet to find a dog who did not get the message pdq.

EGAR
I be sorely pressed to give a nosehug with my mouth to Parci the GD or back then Holly the Neo. Although I have a big mouth .
Alison
I used the nose hug from time to time (with hands) on my somewhat dominant Weimaraner to good effect. I didn't know it had a name though!
supafrisk
Yes, we've always used that with over dominant dogs and it's always worked.
