Kimbo's Story

Day 1 - 3.47pm

A Lab. X was brought in today full of cuts and bruises, upon closer inspection she has had all her teeth knocked out and what looks like a broken jaw :( Probably been hit by a car.

The dog warden has been called back to take her to the vets but if it's expensive to "repair" her the council will be loathe to pay and will probably opt to put her to sleep.

I am waiting to hear the verdict now but have asked that they contact me asap rather than pts to see if we can get her to my vet instead. Let's keep our fingers crossed that it's not too serious because as you know RDR are struggling at the moment funds wise but the poor girl deserves a chance.

Day 1 - 7.53pm

Right, Kimbo was taken to the councils vets via. the dog warden. After hearing nothing and it approaching 7pm when my vets close I asked Helen (manageress of "pound") to see what was happening. It turns out the vets were waiting for the go ahead off RDR (who they tried ringing I am not sure) to do x-rays of her jaw and leg tomorrow at the cost of £150

After speaking to my vet we declined and tomorrow morning Bernadette will be taking her to my vet to see what's what. They will be sedating her and should be able tell if her jaw is broken without x-rays, it sounds like it could just be dislocated.

The bad news is that IF she has broken her jaw without any teeth it will be extremely difficult to fix :(

If she does need x-rays etc. then that's fine but I feel happier with her being at my vets. Anybody who has met them will understand.

Here's the beautiful girl:

Day 2 - 4.38pm

Bernadette took this beauty to the vets this morning, she is just ssoooooo lovely!! And lovely big ears! She does the cutest head cocking ever. Very active and playful, obedient, sits and shakes paws. She has won the hearts of everyone!! We have left her at the vets because he's going to sedate her and do an x-ray. She certainly doesn't seem bothered about her injuries, bless her. She's a wonderful girl!! Sorry the pictures are not too good.

Day 2 - 7.00pm

I have just got back from the vets, I didn't get to see Kimbo as she is still asleep, bless her, but I did get to see the x-ray :(

Unfortunately her jaw is fractured quite badly in 2 places. My vet needs to send the x-ray off to a friend of theirs who is a specialist to see about the best way to fix it. We won't know until tomorrow evening but for the time being they are putting a tape muzzle on her to stop her moving her jaw. Depending on what the specialist says she may just need to keep that on or she may need surgery. Let's keep our fingers tightly crossed for her.

So, the council's vet wanted £150 for 2 x-rays, at my vets she has had a consultation, sedation, x-ray, stitches in her leg, pain-killers, anti-biotics and an over night stay............................guess how much so far

£49.73 (I love my vets)

Day 3 - 10.48am

We will be looking for a foster home for Kimbo to recover in whichever way it goes as she will need to be on a liquid diet which will be hard to control in a kennel environment.

So, if anybody feels they can help, please shout.............she will need to stay quite local for the vet treatment, I think!

Day 3 - 1.21pm

I have had a message from the vet this morning to say that Kimbo is eating crisps  She is doing really well with the tape muzzle on and the best news of all is.....................................Auntie Bernadette will be fostering her

Day 4 - 10.42pm

Good news...........the specialist has said that she just needs the tape muzzle on for 3 weeks and hopefully then her jaw will have had time to heal and she should be fine.

Auntie Bernadette is on her way to pick her up and bring her into the care of RDR where hopefully she will stay until healed and eventually homed.

And finally Day 4 - 6.29pm, Kimbo managed a few words herself:

Hello everyone, my names Kimbo and I've just got released from the vets to Auntie Bernadette's house. I have met her dogs Penny, Meg & Digger also the cat Tigger!! I have got this silly muzzle on me to help heal my jaw and this has to be kept on for 3 weeks :( I can still eat and drink and I dont let the muzzle get me down. I think I'm quite brave and have added some pictures taken today of myself, I think I'm sooooo cute  I think I may settle here for a while whilst I get better, her lot aren't that bad really and I've pinched the settee! Well thank you to everyone for your kind words and hugs for everyone who didnt give up on me and helped me through my accident :flowers:

Day 7 - 8.43am

Kimbo had a very good night. She's a well behaved and very clean dog, not one accident in the house. So, she's house trained and dog, cat and child friendly  She isn't in very bad condition health wise apart from the jaw and is lively, well behaved and is very fond of furniture  for sitting or lying on I must add  She walks well on a lead as well. She is just a star and we love her
