I haven't seen him since (and won't for a while yet.....just so he settles down), but I've spoken to his new family (who amazingly, live just a few miles away), and he is doing just fine!!

So, Troy now has a new home, and wonderful new opportunities to become the happy, carefree, lad which I know is hidden inside.

Lovely news

:flowers: for caring that much that you could let him go.

You know what I think :flowers:

I have every faith that Troy will blossom in his new home and that is all due to your care and love for him over the last couple of years. You've always looked out for him and you always will. I'm so glad that his new family love him as you did :GroupHug:

I have already expressed my thoughts on Troy and what you gave him to you privately but it's certainly worth saying again.

Gwyn I know I could never have done what you did, the patience and love you gave to Troy were endless and then instead of reaping the rewards yourself, you gave that chance to others because it was best for Troy.

How many of us can say that would would take in and love and care for a difficult dog and then let him go when the time was right because it was best for him - very few, certainly not me.

You are a very, very special person and I am proud to say that I count you as a friend.

What a wonderful ending. :GroupHug:

hope you don't mind but I was sent this a while ago and it seemed to fit.

Dear Foster Mom

Author Unknown

DEAR FOSTER MOM:

There I sat, alone and afraid,

You got a call and came right to my aid.

You bundled me up with blankets and love,

And, when I needed it most, you gave me a hug.

I learned that the world was not all that scary and cold,

That sometimes there is someone to have and to hold.

You taught me what love is, you helped me to mend,

You loved me and healed me and became my first friend.

And just when I thought you'd done all you do,

There came along not one new lesson, but two.

First you said, "Sweetheart, you're ready to go,

I've done all I can, and you've learned all I know."

Then you bundled me up with a blanket and kiss,

Along came a new family, they even have kids!

They took me to their home, forever to stay,

At first I thought you sent me away.

Then that second lesson became perfectly clear,

No matter how far, you will always be near.

And so, Foster Mom, you know I've moved on,

I have a new home, with toys and a lawn.

But I'll never forget what I learned that first day,

You never really give your fosters away.

You gave me these thoughts to remember you by,

We may never meet again, and now I know why.

You'll remember I lived with you for a time,

I may not be yours, but you'll always be mine.

I was already blubbing at this thread but that has topped it :mecry: what a lovely poem.

Sorry I dont know Troys story but it sounds to me you are so very dedicated, to build a dog up physically and emotionally, to wait so long for the perfect home and to have the strength to let him go..we need more people like you :GroupHug: :GroupHug: :GroupHug:

be happy Troy :GroupHug:
