Reading back through this post I am so jealous. Before we moved to Spain nearly 2 yrs ago my 6 dogs were able to enjoy a cheap raw diet mostly bought from AMP, but since moving here and going up to 8 dogs it has not been possible to keep it up. This is due to the Spaniards eating or using for stock every part of the animal carcuss, yes I mean every part YUK Thus making it to expensive to feed on a regular basis example is 1kl mince beef is 4.65 euros (around £4.50) and with 4 big, 2 medium and 2 small dogs this would only feed 1 meal Pork is probably the cheapest but I don't like to feed it to them apart from ribs as a treat. So all you lucky ones (and the one's yet to be converted) keep up the good work

A bit of background info. When we came back from UK I brought back with us a non rehomable rescue blue merle collie x who had been in and out of kennels for 2 years to try and settle her here in Spain. Due to having her live with us for 4 months in the UK I knew that one of her problems was dog aggression, so soon as we got back I started on a herbal remedy called Placid which contains chamomile, lemon balm, vervain, skullcap and lime flowers. After 6 wks she seemed to settle quite a bit although still challenging mine whenever she felt like it, so I decided on Saturday to try her with a DAP collar. Well by Sunday she had turned into the dog from hell and in the evening after their walk decided to have a go at Rudi the Retriever who having had enough retaliated. This would not have been so bad if it had not happened as I bent down to pick up the towel I had just used to dry them as I ended up in the hospital having treatment on my bitten hand that had got in the way. Monday night she just walked up and had a go at Wispa the Alfa chochi lab then on Tuesday morning she jumped on Rebel the 12yr old senile, blind lurcher pinning him down and having a go just because he walked past her. Last night I took the DAP collar off as did wonder if she had received an overload of hormones and today she seems a lot calmer. We are waiting for our builder to start a kennel which she will stay in at night and when we are out. She has to come with us every where at the moment due to escaping over the 6 foot fence one day and being found with the skin ripped off one of her back toes. Taking her out with us is not ideal due to being a typical collie and barking at all the cars that pass. Sorry bit long winded but though I would ask if anyone had any reactions like this?

Penny (was Roxy) was speyed last Wednesday and yes was in whelp would not normally have had a bitched done this early after a season but did not want to risk her having puppies after having her staples out she can know look forward to enjoying her puppyhood without becoming an early mum

Sorry if I am going over old ground but with regards to antibiotics do they have to be ones specifically labelled for animals. Here in Spain when one of the dogs need antibiotics the vet just writes out a "sort off" prescription (which is given back) which I take it to the chemist and pay around 4euros for a box of 24 human antibiotics. I would be quite happy to get a few boxes to send out if you think you could use them. My lab had to have 1 tablet twice a day for 1 week after having a lump removed and collie is having the same dose after having a ripped toe stitched up so sure they could be used generally

I would like to introduce our new grandson Jed Andrew born by C section on 2nd January at 8.50pm. He weighed in at 7lb 8 1/2oz but wanted to come out face first And with his proud Granddad

I know it is a silly question but is there a test to see if a dog is pregnant or not I left for the UK 4 weeks ago for the birth of my grandson and a few days after I left the little girl below (now named Roxy) appeared on the land and adopted my OH. She had obviously broken free as she had a piece of rope tied around her neck. Of course he took her around asking if anybody new her but of course no body did After 2 weeks my OH joined me in the UK for a week leaving the dogs (including Roxy) with friends coming up to see to them. We arrived back last Saturday and noticed that Roxy was in season, we guess she was around the middle week due the blood loss. All mine are all done so no problem there, and she has not been out of our sight this week but problem is she could have got under the gate while friends were looking after them and got caught. I want to wait a few months before getting her done but can't risk her being in pup, has any one any suggestions on how I can tell if she has been got at as she will need a termination if she has. Thanks for all the replies, Missie does have her own bed (although usualy shares with George the Staffie) but she does tend to sleep every where. My daughter has wooden floors throughout so it's not due to carpets. She has been on all sorts of food and now tends to stay on a varied BARF diet. I will take her to the vet next week (Sarah can't as just had a baby by C section) but will ask for Missie to be refered to a Homeopathic Vet but in the meantime will give Exmarid a try. We did have Saffie on Atopica and although she did flare up occassionaly it did keep it under control but it was expensive at around £48 per month

Missie my daughters white cross breed has started nibbling and scratching all over her body and has come up very pink, this happened at the same time last year so seems to be an allergie to something. We do not want to take her to the vets as they will probably put her on steriods which we don't wount as we are sure it was a life on steriods that caused a tumour of the spleen in Saffie our Beagle X who we lost nearly 2 years ago Missie has regular Frontline/stronghold treatment and Malaseb baths that seem to ease the itch but not cure it Can anyone suggest a hebal remedy that we can buy over the counter or a herbalist vet in the kent area that will help her before she rips all her fur out

So glad Polly is on the mend Think it's worse when it is one of your own that does it, my chocci lab would try and get any furries when she was younger, suppose it's just instinct for you

Happy Christmas to our Lovely Retriever Major who went to the bridge in October 2002 aged 15yrs, to Benedict our white cat who went to the bridge on August 2003 aged 17 yrs and to our beautifull Saffie who did not make it to Spain as left us in February 2007 aged 9yrs. Also love to Lady the Dalmation and Sam puddy cat who left us many years ago. You have gone but have never been forgotten Our Saffie
