taylor
We have just taken in a litter of puppies at 12 weeks old straight cross between Japanese Akita and Neopolitan Mastif ...... they were a so called "accidental mating" these puppies are huge (very cute) and looking for homes, Im trying to work out in my own head whether these puppies already run the risk of becoming a problem whilst living with your average pet owner purely due to there breed ? What do you think ? I know on dog welfare ethical terms any unwanted litter is unacceptable but is it more irresponsible to breed types of dogs that have a possible history of being used for violence ? Im not saying here that i dont like either breed and would be very interested in hearing your views ?
GSDFan
Frankly I think you have two breeds there which both need experienced and knowledgable homes, the two breeds do have different temperaments and there is no real way of knowing which parent each puppy will most resemble. I'm not convinced that a cross between these two breeds is suitable for an 'average' pet owner.
EGAR
I agree with GSDFan. My worst *accidental* litter I took in was APBT x Kerry Blue.... 4 pups of sheer MADNESS and I found it very hard to re-home them but I did manage to re-home the last pup when it was nearly 6 months old. They are now nearly 6 yro and BOY do they still need an experienced hand when it comes to other animals. Sarah
dlmckay
That's one heck of a litter... not puppies for the faint-hearted! If it were me, I'd make sure that these pups are socialised as much as you humanly can. People, other dogs, traffic, loud noises, livestock... to desensitise them and hopefully make a difference to their social skills as adolescent dogs. It wouldn't hurt to throw a little control training in there too. You know, like wait to be told to eat etc... discouraging the puppies to mouth anything and be accepting in handing toys over, blah, blah, blah. I would also ensure that any home they go to are not first time dog owners and are well experienced in handling large dogs. Good luck!
Red Rotties
What a nightmare litter, two fighting breeds together, lets hope they inherite the softer side of the two breeds. Defo not a dog for the inexperianced or novice dog owner. It has been known in the dog fighting circles to use this cross (ie in Japan sand America, must stop googling) lets hope not a trend over here!
