The Horse Update / Pic Thread

To work out the diagonal try sitting trot and feel your seat bones, as each one drops it means the back leg is under you so if your outside seat bone drops that is the inside diagonal. Sounds a tad confusing written down but you'll feel it with no problem. Maybe try it on the lunge with your eyes shut!

Before you ask for canter do a few sitting trot strides on a circle and then go back into rising, when you want the canter sit a few strides to feel the diagonal and then move your outside seatbone back. Don't forget to keep the contact or the horse will just run through your hand and as Gooster said don't lean forward!

Really hope the vet can get to Kim to do the xrays and its good news :GroupHug:

Milo looks so handsome, his facial expression has changed already, he seems much softer now

That picture must have made you  Gooster

I tip forward terribly into canter, my instructor gets me to think of growing tall, I have been told for years to sit back, but somehow growing tall clicks better in my brain, she also says to imagian that the transition is an upward action, rather than forward if that helps :flowers:

I have left Loki in today he survived all day yesterday with shoes intact but apparently there was lots of running around and playing, it was so icy this morning not good for running around and also thinking with his low heals and how hard the ground has been the last week, a day in the stable on soft ground won't be a bad idea, he can go back out tomorrow whatever the weather as I will be around to monitor the situation

Just had to cancel my dressage lesson as no way going to risk taking the trailer out in this, stupid horrible weather wish it would clear off

Everybody I know seems to go to Tracey Lawson....maybe when Milo has developed himself a bit more (i.e doesnt look like Llama ) i'll pay her a visit!

She really is fab, I have never really been into my flatwork but she makes the lessons fun and gets such progress in the lesson I was amazed and really enjoy doing my homework. Don't be put off going to her by thinking Milo isn't ready, I wish I had gone to her from day one as I would have progressed long ago, and if I can string a few lessons together (so far we have only managed one every month as had car out of action due to someone driving into it, saddle sent away, and now snow!!) I really think we will get over our issues.

Oh no you must be in a cool spot, as we have no snow left and surface was back to normal. Fingers crossed its usuable again now :flowers:

Loki's fab physio has injured his arm and isn't working for at least month, and poor Loki is very tight and uncomfortable through his shoulders, I knew I should have got it done a few months ago when it started but just didn't have the cash, sods law I got a little cash bonus on Friday so called straight away to book him up only to find out this  Hoping he might be able to recommend someone else but so far I haven't had a response to that question  Heyho have booked his McTimmoney lady for Wednesday maybe she can help until I can find someone to give him a good massage. Its a tough life for our horses isn't it

Just heard a space has come up on Tracey's clinic on Saturday so thats fab we can get on with some ridden physio at least!

Bugger it's cold round here, was minus 13 over Shap last night! Yard is a frozen waste with gritted tracks leading everywhere. The arena is still usuable on the Sam created grit track and is brilliant allthough we are keeping lunging to 15 mins as we don't want a yard full of super fit horses at the moment. I must take some pics of the shets, they just look like mini hairy yaks!

The news on Kim is a bit eeeek! There is a mass in the front of her head and her cheek bones are very very slightly distorted. Vet thinks it's a cyst but xrays have had to go to the specialist. She will have to have surgery whatever and it involves drilling thorough her forehead on four points and then linking the holes and removing a window of bone! Then they have to find out what it is, if it's attached to anything and how to remove it! Sounds really radical and scary, Sam is trashed in her head at the moment and I'm not surprised!

The rest of our place has defrosted but I think because the school is overhung by trees and in a shady corner it hasnt had a chance to melt yet  Its supposed to warm up here by the end of the week so hopefully might get something done! I dont think I could cope owth -13. -6 was quite enough

Poor Kim, sending thoughts :flowers:
