The Horse Update / Pic Thread

Sorry to hear you are unhappy at your yard Clare. What is it you are struggling with? Winter is hard going on any yard, counting down the weeks until ours go out :)

Glucosamine is amazing stuff. Blue has been on it for 2 weeks and he had a real spring in his step on Friday. I asked him to trot on the left rein (usually he takes ages to actually move in the trot on the left rein), and he shot forwards like someone had shoved a rocket up his bum   Really caught me off guard!

Well, the glucosamine is continuing to work wonders! Tonight he gave me the most powerful trot and canter ever. Really powering forwards

Nearly cancelled my lesson as his thrush has flared up again in his left hind, and when I was picking his feet out, he decided to spook at something and the hoof pick went into the manky bit of his frog. I spoke to my instructor about it and she had a look and said he would probably be ok, but if he wasn't happy, we would stop the lesson. Anyway, he was absolutely fine :) Farrier is coming out on Wednesday so will keep purple spraying it and washing it with hibiscrub over the next few days and see how he goes

Glad to hear Blue is back on form

Things are pretty hectic getting ready for the first event of the season, well not going to feel ready but I've got in at Munstead on 23rd so we'll will see how we go. Have had a bit of a change on our flatwork, wasn't happy with the direction we were going so have changed instructors who has turned everything upside down, but in a good way as he has confirmed a lot of what I was worried wasn't going right. But think our dressage marks will take a hit until I've got a few more lessons under my belt as only had one and just about covered warming up and down, dressage next weekend could be interesting

Although we haven't got out showjumping have done lots of jumping clinics and lessons and feel slightly more confident of what I'm doing but won't know until I go in the ring whether I will revert and hit the panic button again!

What plans does everyone have this year?

I bet you are all go at the moment Clare :)

Well I've signed myself up to represent the riding club in an area competition for people who are just starting out. I've signed up to have a bash at a prelim dressage (number 4) and the jumping which is 2'3" and 2'6". I really thrive on 'goals' and my enthusiasm for riding has depleted recently so thought I'd better give myself a kick up the backside.

It's now light enough that I can ride after work so I can get milo a bit fitter. The competition is at the beginning of April so I've booked in for a sj clinic and sort of booked a private flat lesson for the week before so I can have a bash at the prelim before the big day. I thought about taking him out for a trial run on grass (as the show will be) but it means he's going to be mega busy so I'm not sure whether to or not. The place where I do my dressage has a show 2 days before with an intro and prelim so I can take him to that to have a go at a a prelim.

Other than that thinking of a few sponsored rides...

I was beginning to wonder where everyone had got to, glad y'all doing ok. Wanda is fantastic since she came off the prascend and started the Feedmark C-plus. My shets are great, Lillie is still fairly obsessed with her companion, Millie in the mirror which is highly entertaining! The yard shet Monty has been a bit off and not eating but seems to be coming round now, he has malabsorption problems and has to eat huge amounts of slop to keep right so not eating was a big worry.

YO Sam went to a dressage comp with her horse Kim a year to the day from her surgery on her collateral and annular ligaments with a very poor prognosis, now just how good is that! She wasn't placed as Kim was more than a bit on end but just to get her there is a huge achievment.

I think we should meet Millie in the Mirror...:)

I bet Sam was just thrilled to be there after the trauma she has been through well done to both of them...:)

That's fantastic, Sam must be over the moon, testiment to a lot of hard rehab work I would think :flowers:

I'm sure once the lighter nights and better weather (we can hope!) arrive CP you'll find your mojo. Sounds like you are going to be busy either way

Oooooh I'm so excited, I've just booked my first ever riding club camp :D so excited. It's in July, you go Saturday, stay overnight and come home Sunday. Over the 2 days I get 6 things to do, SJ, poles lesson, dressage, Sj, XC and Trec. I actually know someone who's going so that will be good, I think there's about 30 people going in total so will be good fun.

How is everyone? Cold enough?

Oooh exciting CP :pinkie:

Hope you're feeling better Gooster :flowers:

I've had to cancel my lesson on Saturday and have withdrawn from dressage on Sunday ...... as we are going to meet a perspective new member to our family so horse stuff is taking a back seat this weekend, very exciting and nerve wracking at the same time

Thought as this was a horse thread no one would be interested :D

We are off to meet this young man http://www.abetterlifedogrescue.co.uk/Aldo.html

Have spoken to his foster mum and he sounds a sweetie, slightly concerned about his lack of confidence after only having uber confident Murf most of my dog owning life but his foster mum thinks he is more shy than naturally timid and he will gain in confidence, we're just afraid of making the wrong decision, I'd be much more confident looking at a horse!

Aww, he is lovely  Dogs can overcome their shyness. Charliegoo was terrible when he was a baby - hated men/hats/hi viz etc. However with socialisation they do get better. Charlie actually runs up to people now wagging his whole body! It does help that he is a complete foodie, so we spent a few sessions outside a shop with food and asking passers by to give him little titbits and fuss him. He was also scared of loud noises etc, still is scared of loud bangs etc, but he is a lot better than he used to be. I mean the first time we tried flyball he was terrified of the box. We spent time concentrating on agility and obedience, before trying flyball again, he then went on to be top flyball dog of the year. If you home them when they are still young, with time and understanding, their confidence does build! I would rather take on a nervous dog than a nervous horse! :)
