  1. Willow (lurcher pup) and Frey (Bengal) went off to their new homes today Sharla (little Bengal girl) came in today for rehoming It's been a busy day This new format has temporarily defeated me so , as appropriate to those who need them.
  2. Is this a dog from a UK rescue? I know exactly where you're coming from, Wendy, but in our case we foster for Limerick so they can't take dogs back at the drop of a hat. What we've always done (and continue to do) is get an English rescue to give us back up in the UK. That way, should we not be able to take a dog back, the rescue can use its network of fosters to find somewhere safe for a returned dog.
  3. I am very sad tonight I am delivering Misty back to Rough Collie Rescue tomorrow to go to her new home, and although they sound lovely, she loves me and I love her I've never meet a sweeter dog I'm sure her new people are lovely so it's just me being silly. I'm taking Gemma & Echo with me so she won't feel lonely on the trip and I'll be sure to give her new mum lots of info on what she likes best (apart from food ) Sorry, once again, haven't really read back so and to all who need/deserve them.
  4. Yes, it is, but some of them were boxed in quantities so not necessarily 1.3 m boxes!! Was a hell of a lot though! I know - the lady who is adopting her rang me this week and she sounds lovely (homechecked and approved by rc rescue so I hadn't spoken to her until then) and I'm very, very glad for Misty. the lady runs a cat rescue (and has had 7 rough collies in the past) so it'll feel like home from home for Misty
  5. Sorry havent had even 10 mins to read back so in particular to those who need them. I've had the week from hell. I've delivered over 1.3M items this week to various groups but I'm still getting s*** and I hate it Roll on sense and next week (hopefully). Good news from here is that I've had 3 cats homechecked and going to new homes next week (or soon thereafter) and I think I've rehomed one of the pups too A special plus is that Misty (obese rough collie) has found her new home and I'll be taking her there on Sunday
  6. Very pleased that she's back home with you and delighted that she's back to her happy self with the other dogs If you like, she can come and keep Misty (the very obese collie) company. She is similarly unimpressed with her current diet - although I suppose at least it's not Chappie Hope the vet visit goes well
  7. I'm so sorry Sleep tight, Skellie
  8. Loads of healing thoughts sent for Sam
  9. Well, she may have lost a few pounds but with the weight she is, it's going to take around 12 months at least to get to her target weight without causing damage to her internal organs etc. She's such a sweetheart and so worth it It is true though that a bath and groom can make a huge difference, both to Misty herself and her comfort - and to the way she's perceived by others. Redditchlady - I haven't yet bulked her dinner with veg purely because she's testing me - despite having a small meal, she will leave it if she doesn't think it's appetising enough Madmerle - that is really interesting, I didn't know that and will definitely try it.
  10. I'm so sorry Run free Lacey
  11. Ok, I'm not sure she's lost any weight but I think you'll admit she does look a lot happier This is the picture of her when she was first handed in: and this is her now, after a trim and bath She's much, much more lively now, there's a spring in her step and she even tries to run to keep up with our dogs when they're on their walk...... it's not a fast run but it's the best she can do She weighed in at 41.5 kgs which is almost twice what she should weigh and I'll try to get her to the vet this week to re-weigh her (trouble is, it takes 2 of us to lift her into the car and there's not always 2 of us available ). She's on reduced rations and seems to have accepted that. She did have a pig's ear the other day but as she was getting at least 3 treats a day at her previous home - and she's had just the one in 10 days here -we must have cut out a few calories. Her teeth are in a bad way but I don't want to worry about them until we've got some weight off her so I might try some gentle plaque removal here rather than put her through a dental at the vets just yet. Fingers crossed someone is coming to see her at the weekend. She's got the sweetest temperament so I hope they see through the bulk and appreciate her for the smashing girl that she is
  12. Currently we have more than 10 We also have our own land, thank goodness. It isn't easy especially as the youngsters normally try to take me off my feet Fortunately they can run free, otherwise we'd be stumped. Feeding time feels like a marathon
  13. Only just seen this - loads of positive thoughts sent. Is there any news? Pauline
  14. I'm so very sorry Cher Run free, Jessie
  15. If cheese won't work, try hot dog sausages. Buy the mini ones, cook as per instructions on can, cut into small pieces. Most dogs will roll over and die for them Otherwise, liver cake with lots and lots of garlic
  16. What a lovely place to walk - no wonder Monty always looks happy I think it's a bit mean that you told him to 'sit' in the snow so that you could take his pic
  17. Me neither Play at the Bridge little one. for his family.
  18. I have 2 outdoor kennels and runs but I use them to confine dogs during the day if for any reason I haven't got somewhere else in the house for them. They are not heated so I wouldn't leave any of my dogs in them overnight for 2 reasons: - my dogs could be stolen from them (even though they are not in view) and secondly because my dogs would howl all night if they were left out there. The heating bit is important but I've got rough collies so I think they'd probably be more than warm enough.

    Obesity

Well, Misty is doing ok We went to the vet yesterday and they did a full blood screening, listened to her heart etc. and sent off blood to test for a thyroid problem. Initial blood screening is fine, as is her heart (amazingly) and I should hear later this week about the thyroid. She actually weighs 41.45 kgs so not quite as bad as I thought but she's not a big boned bitch so it's still a hell of a lot of weight to carry. She should be around 22 kgs! It's going to be a long haul to lose almost half her body weight because it's important that she loses it gradually. So far, she's a really easy dog to have around, although she did have a scrap with Katy, my 12 year old bitch tonight - but Katy (bless her) is a cantankerous madam and probably started it. She doesn't tolerate being pushed around, despite - or probably because of - her age I wormed Misty last night too and one of the dogs (probably her) was slightly sick overnight. She ate her breakfast but refused her dinner - so she's not eating too much here I'm sure it will all settle down eventually. It will be a little easier if we know whether her thyroid is involved or whether she has just been over-eating for a long time. She has a potential home (someone else who has fostered rough collies previously) so as long as they like her and are committed to a long-term eating plan for her, her life may just have started all over again. I look at Misty and think of her as a tiny pup, with her whole life ahead of her - and I'm ashamed that anyone could have let her get into this state Onwards & upwards for Misty from now on
  20. First of all, well done Bebe for being so positive about it all, despite Ty's reservations I have taken dogs who weren't overly keen the first few times but they settled down after a few sessions. Without seeing Ty's reactions first hand, it's difficult to assess whether she will get to enjoy it but I think you've done the right thing by booking another visit, particularly as Ty seems to dislike anything unusual for her initially. I think that the man running the pool might have told you if he thought she was a hopeless case!! Good luck for Friday - I'll be thinking of you.
  21. Great pics - all the dogs look like they're having a fantastic time
  22. Poor little chap, he's gorgeous Loads of positive thoughts that he is feeling much brighter today.
