  1. Ciren , please dont let strength put you off if you find a dog you really like , i am 5ft 3 about 9 stone , not very strong either and i took on a rescue Pyr that weighed just over 80 Kilos when he first came to me , had no manners , no training what so ever and had quite a few other issues , that we worked through together , he was branded everything aggressive , thankfully it did not take long to work out what the problems really were , with a lot of training one step forward 3 steps back , my big lad passed his Kennel club Bronze and Silver training awards within a few months of him being here , have a bit of confidence in yourself I was not an experienced dog owner , i had only ever had one dog before i got Akira as a pup then took on Storm as a foster dog after losing my soul mate Taz , but i did put the time and effort into training both Storm and Akira , and it paid off really well . I am not suggesting that you take on a huge snarling beast but please dont let any breed put you off , as you get out of your dogs what you put into them and if you fall in love with one any amount of time and effort is so worth it And staffy snogs are lovely I have had a really good day today , i took Storm for a walk with a few dogs he had never met before so i left Akira with Mel and we headed for the beach , my gorgeous boy done me proud , he was OFFLEAD for 2 hours playing with , A GSD , loads of border collies, a very sweet lab puppy , who kept trying to hump him and he took everything in his stride and only told the puppy off after lots of pestering , which was really surprising , just how much he took before retalliating . He met an assortment of different dogs , a couple of Staffies , bedlington terrier, a retriever and loads of other dogs and he was an angel , when i thougth he was getting too far out of reach i told him to wait and he did , i am so proud of my big guy and of course there were the usual tears in my eyes seeing him playing and happy surrounded by strange dogs he had never met , so much for him being everythng aggressive eh? I might have some pics to show off later Fiona xx
  2. Happy Birthday Emma , hope you have a lovely day Fiona xx
  3. You kept that quiet Catherine , hope you had a lovely day Fiona xx
  4. Oh well done all of you i know exactly how you feel , i have only ever let Storm off once to play with another dog we have never had the chance again so i can imagine how proud you must be , and i can also imagine the heart stopping moment when you saw the other wee dog appear , it is so nice to see them playing and behaving how dogs should behave , it makes all the hard work so worth it Fiona xx
  5. Storm came from The Dog Aid Society in Edinburgh , 25th April 2005 Aged 2 and a half , not a breed that usually comes up in rescues up here very often , thankfully Fiona xx

  9. For something as serious as murder then yes i agree with everyone else , i would shop any member of my family , but to be honest i am not so sure about other crimes i suppose it would depend on how serious they were , i would have to think very carefully about the circumstances and decide if i was ever put in that position , i hope i never am but i dont think i can catagorically say yes i would shop anyone in my family for any crime at all Fiona xx
  10. My son was still lying breech on his due date and after 3 difficult births , when i asked if they would section me and was told no i was to have a natural birth , i decided to take matters into my own hands and off i went down out local park and jumped on the trampolines for about 20 minutes That night my son carried on like he was in a washing machine on fast spin all night , but when i went for my next check up a week later , the doctor told me i would be relieved to know he had turned and was no longer breech . That was fine until my husband told him what i had been up to , the doctor then told me he would not recommend that to anyone 40 weeks pregnant but then he did smile and say it had seemed to do the trick, not that im recommending it at all but you have plenty of time for baby to turn around yet Fiona xx
  11. I have to agree with you Cher , after all i took on a huge challenge with Storm , as you know he was really hard work for a while , but i enjoyed the challenge , which is just as well as he really was really challenging to start with He has been here 3 years on the 25th of this month and now he is a well behaved well mannered happy dog most of the time but we still have the occasional hiccup , which is fine by me as he has come such a long way from the scared unhappy boy he was when he first came here I would love to foster again but i know my limitations and with Akira and Storm i would need to be very careful about the nature of any dog that came here, Akira loves all dogs and would not be a problem but Storm can be a wee bit of a bully when he wants to be , he does not get away with it right enough but he's a chancer , mind you saying that we have had friends visit bringing their 3 dogs with them and Storm was fine with them all , so never say never i suppose I honestly dont know how people cope with a large pack of dogs , but everyones circumstances are different and we all know our own capabilities , funnily enough i often wonder if an even number of dogs say 4 is easier than maybe say 3 or 5 ? Maybe thats because i have 2 huge dogs and i know theres no way i could walk another one along with them and the thought of leaving one behind when going for walks would not be fair but if they had company it maybe would'nt be so bad ? Fiona xx
  12. Large breed puppies do need more care taken as they are more prone to HD and other joint problems , Green lipped muscle and glucosamine are both really good suppliments for large breed puppies Fiona xx

  16. Have you thought about looking into autistic spectrum disorders Cheryl ? Im not trying to worry you but a lot of what you are saying sounds like my son who has Aspergers Syndrome , He is very intelligent and like Emily does not see the point in doing things he cannot see the point in . Kids on the spectrum say things as they see them , think very literally everything is black and white with nothing in between , their lack of social skills can cause problems for them as to them they are not being rude just saying things as they see them , i can laugh about things that have happened with Robert but other people dont think its funny when he tells them straight It is really difficult to get your head around the way these kids think , it takes a long time to understand their reasoning as they do think in a different way that we do totally and education can be a huge problem if teachers dont understand the childs needs , for example my son refused point blank to learn French in high school , when he was very good at it in primary school , because he said he is not going to ever go to France so whats the point ? I can explain to Robert until i am blue in the face why something is not acceptable but if the same situation arises again his responses would be the same for example he went through a faze of Burping really loudly , i told him it was not polite and his answer was its natural and you cant help it , when i went on to explain that its not nice and against the rules( thinking if i told him that he would be able to understand better as most of these kids do tend to obey the rules ) his answer then was well if its against the rules , whoever made the rules about it was stupid as it is a natural thing and everyone does it , thankfully he seems to have grown out of that faze a few years ago but at the itme it was very frustrating because i could see exactly where he was coming from when he explained it his way . When a child is very intelligent and they dont have any problems they would understand that it could be seen as rude to correct a teacher , however kids on the spectrum honestly would not see anything wrong with saying what they think no matter what the circumstances . These kids tend not to lie either eg when my other kids were young and knew they were going to get into trouble for something , like most kids do they would try to blame things on each other but i never had that problem with Robert if he was told for example he was not allowed a biscuit , then he helped himself , if i asked him did you take a biscuit he would say yes , because he did not grasp the consequences the others would know they would get into trouble for not doing as they were told but to Robert he just did not grasp that at all. As i said Cheryl im not trying to worry you or upset you but it might be something worth looking into for Emily , as reading your post i definately ticked a few boxes , maybe its not Aspergers but i think i would certainly look into the possibility of that or one of the other Autistic Spectrum Disorders , Robert was not diagnosed until he was 9 so it is not something that is easy to pick up on i thought a lot of his behaviour was down to him having 3 big sisters that spoiled him rotten , as sometimes he sounded and acted like a spoiled brat . Another thing that took me ages to get my head around was Roberts Sensory Perceptions are totally different from ours , his hearing is very acute and he can hear things that we cant until they are a lot closer , for years i thought he was scared of flies and did not understand why he covered his ears and screamed when one was in the house it was years later i realized he was not scared of them but the buzzing drove him nuts . I could go on for ages explaining the differences in his sensory perceptions but i think i have given you enough to think about for now , im not saying Emily has an ASD but i do think its is worth considering Fiona xx
  17. I just got this email from Paypal Your PayPal payment by bank transfer to [email protected] for X GBP has been processed and automatically credited to the PayPal account of the payment's recipient. Thus, this transaction is completed. Because i pay through bank transfer not by card i know it can take a while to go through , but this took 2 whole weeks , so i was wondering does that mean Mil have the money or is their paypal account still frozen ? Fiona xx

  19. No need to apologize Fee , it does seem a bit strange but as i said anything that brings the plight of the dogs in these hell holes can only in my opinion be a good thing Fiona xx
  20. I cross posted from another forum so i dont know if it happens regularly or not but in my opinion if it happened even once its too often so i signed as i feel that anything at all regarding puppy farms/farmers that is brought to the attention of the government might in some way enlighten people about the plight of all the poor dogs in these dreadful places . Signing it of course is a matter for you own concience , however personally i feel at least if i sign these kind of petitions there might be a slim chance that somewhere down the line somebody might actually take things a bit more seriously and decide to investigate further , which can only be a good thing for the dogs , if i dont sign because i have not seen or heard anything about it then maybe things wont change at all and even more dogs will be used and abused for money in side these hell holes . I will say that i find it really sad someone can come into a thread like this and state thay have not signed , yes maybe i dont know for sure it is happening but in these days of designer cross breeds i would certainly not put it past them to do it for greed and lets face it it is not ike they value their breeding bitches at all is it ? If one dies giving birth to pups that are too big they have plenty more where she came from i am sure , maybe sigining this petition wont make a difference but they again what if it does ? Even if it saves one bitch from this kind of breeding then surely its worth adding you signature ? Fiona xx
  21. Can i just remind anyone that signs this petition you have to click on the link when they send you an email of your name wont be added to the petition Cross posting is a good idea so please cross post to any site you are on where like minded dog lovers will be more than willing to sign Fiona xx

  24. Oh dear i have had a similar problem in the past so i know how you feel Storm has always had resource guarding issues and i agree Jean Donalson's Mine was a fantastic book with some really good practical information well written and easy to understand . Storm suddenly started getting a bit grumpy with Akira and i knew there was something wrong , we had not had any chages in our live at all so i could not figure out why his behaviour was suddenly escalating . Like you i took Storm to the vet who did some blood tests , checked him over and said she could find nothing wrong , i just knew there was something but i could not put my finger on it , however i knew i could not allow him to bully Akira . My next step was a Mc Timoney chiropractor who worked told me that Storm had some vertibrae in his neck out of alignment and a slight twist in his back , which would have been causing him some discomfort. She asked me lots of questions and the one thing that stuck in my mind was Storm rubbing his face along the couch i had presumed his ears were bothering him as he did have a wee bit of trouble with his ears back then , but she told me it was more likely that he was getting headaches , not something i had really ever considered , we made a few visits to her and she worked on him and after every session he was so much more relaxed , on our second visit she noticed that he also had a slight twist in his face , which had probably been caused by a blow to his head at some point Even after the first session his behaviour improved again and he was fine with Akira , i am not suggesting these are the same kind of problems but just thought i would mention them as a chiropractor might be worth looking into for your boy as well . As vets are not specialised in any one field and are usually more like our GP's good at the basics but as i said not specialists . If he is stressed a Dap diffuser might help or even the Dap spray , again worth trying although they dont work for all dogs they might help . Not being nosey but if he is insured maybe they will pay for a behaviourist , some do some dont but again maybe worth looking into ? Good luck Fiona xx
  25. Just speaking to Cher and Chris is on his way to pick her up , she has been very lucky to get away with deep tissue damage , bruising and whiplash , she is in a lot of pain but glad to be going home, the problem now will be making her rest I dont suppose anyone would have a lap top Cher can borrow for a wee while so she has no excuse not to stay in bed ?
