  1. Hello Sorry not been on the board yesterday. I lost one of my chickens yesterday, she was over 5 years old and it quite upset me. The pup in question is 6 months old, he is very friendly and when we had him in he vets the other day for his neutering operation, he seemed easy in the company of other dogs. He is a strong dog, and needs some basic training. I don't know if you could manage two youngsters though, they will both be lively characters? Do you have children, as the dog in question is quite strong? Having said that I am sure with consistent training, he would probably become an agility dog, as he likes the chair legs and weaves through them, and has been up the children's slide in the garden!
  2. I took this lovely boy with his owner (who he is still living with despite her poorly chest) to be neutered yesterday. He is crossed with a staffie, but his coat feels a little wiry, so there must be some terrier and collie in there too. He is sooooooo friendly, just lay on his back for fuss. He is a strong boy and will require firm but kind handling. He is a cute dog, but has already shown signs for potential weave pole work, as he has been going in and out of the chair legs at home! He has also been up and down the small slide in the garden, so maybe a good agility prospect! He will be going back for a check up at the vets this weekend, and he can go to a new home after that, for gentle walks at first whilst those stitches dissolve. Oscar deserves a new start as potentially he could be a good dog for dog club events. I feel he needs an experienced dog owner as he is strong and a typical pup. His present owner is not well enough to do him justice, but he is a well loved family dog, and although he was on Freecycle they obviously care enough to have listened to advice from me and wait until we find him a good home.
  3. Rocky has had his operation, and was quite a good boy, he has to go for a check up in a day or so. The stitches are the sort that dissolve, so it shouldn't be long before he is ready to start a new life! All we need to do now is work out when and how to get him down to the rescue lady!
  4. Fireworks have been going off for the last 40 minutes around our house. Just sounds like it is coming from the school car park or thereabouts near our house. Cannot understand it as Ishkha is normally hiding in the cloakroom (no windows - middle of the house downstairs) with her tail up her bottom. She is actually sleeping next to me and it is me who is twitching - because I know what she is usually like! Shouldn't have said that, a louder one just woke her up. Will see what happens soon.......
  5. I am so sorry to hear your news. Be grateful that you and your vet had the foresight to let him go before his lost his dignity. Run itch free sweetheart.
  6. Quote (He's also developed a liking for sardines in tomato sauce) If you would like some more fish, we may have some sardines, but we certainly have some pilchards, Glenryck Foods have been very good to the Cat Group and let us have some of their fish (not all the tins are damaged) and I am sure we could donate some to him if you would like it. My stocks are lower than normal, but I would like us to be able to help an animal who is having a tough time. If you think he would like some, please PM me. Gentle hugs to the patient and his owners.
  7. Well he certainly tried and so did you for him. He will be sadly missed by loads of people. So sorry to hear your sad news.
  8. I wish I could be so organised. So far have made a list, which states whether item is purchased or purchased and wrapped. I have purchased a couple of things so far. I went onto the site where where you can spend with lots of well known companies and a proportion goes to rescue, but I got in a muddle with that and gave up. Me and computers, not a good combination!
  9. What terrible news. But at least we know now, there is nothing worse than having a much loved creature (human or animal) disappear. Let's give thanks to the helpers who's hearts were definitely in the right place, and went looking despite the cold, for her and her owners. Hugs to all involved with this tragic event. Run free again sweetheart.
  10. It's just so great to go somewhere and be able to press "home" Take care not to actually put your precise address into the machine. People have had their homes burgled when their car or sat nav have been stolen, because the thief has worked out that they are obviously out and help to locate them. We have one built in the car and a Tom Tom, not sure which I prefer, but remember when looking at the different makes, Tom Tom seemed to be the better bet.
  11. What a well loved girlie who will most definitely be missed by her friends and family. You gave her the ultimate gift of freeing her of her pain and discomfort. It is never an easy option.
  12. Many thanks you eagle eyed person.
  13. I have been on Freecycle again, and this time it is not a kitten or cat that I have become involved with, but a lovely young dog. I will know more about him on Wednesday when I meet him and take him for his neutering operation. The reason for rehoming seems to be that the present owner has asthma, thought to be made worse by having the dog. Here is a picture of the little chap, who's Mum is mostly collie, and we don't know who the Dad is.
  14. Bless you for suggesting Gill, I telephoned her yesterday (as soon as I saw the post above), and she said if he is neutered before, she would take him! Thank yo so much for your suggestion, I will need to see if there is any transport going down towards Gill, Binfield, Berkshire, RG42. I am taking him for his operation on Tuesday morning.
  15. You will be with him now, please give him all our good vibes for a speedy recovery!
  16. It is no good saying try to get some rest because I know you won't be able to sleep, but try to put your feet up at least. It sounds as if the vets are trying their hardest for him and you all.
  17. Please let there be good news next time I look on here again! Keep fighting chap, we are all thinking of you.
  18. I now try to use the Astonish brand. You may find that your Co-op sells washing powder that is not tested on animals, may do a better cleaning job than soap nuts.
  19. In my experience this breed is very clever, and she will know she was loved by everyone! It is hard when they go though.
  20. I have to say I admire your work too. It is so stressful when the kittens are poorly, especially when they are so tiny without their Mum. I sometimes wonder why I foster kittens because as you are demonstrating, it can be like treading on a tightrope. They so quickly go up and down. Do you have any of this:- http://www.vetuk.co.uk/index.php?main_page...products_id=905 I find it really useful if a kitten appears to be poorly and refusing to eat or drink. It has saved me from calling a vet over a weekend night more than once. I remember a few weeks ago one of my foster kittens was not interested in food, and just sat there, appeared dehydrated when I pinched the skin over her neck and was really sorry for herself. So I syringed some of this solution into her a couple of times, and about an hour later she was playing on the sofa next to her Mum. I cried with the stress and relief of it all, I was tired too as it was about midnight. Well done in all your efforts, I don't know how you do it with such little children around too.
  21. You must be in shock, due to his sudden departure. Run free Seth and enjoy those sunny fields.
  22. I have got a son similar to yours too. I have always thought he was different from my other 5. Some of the children suffered from dyspraxia, we paid privately to have their brains retrained through the DORE Foundation (now gone into liquidation). It was whilst my eldest son was working for the same managing director of that business/charity when he mentioned to the director, that his brother could help him with his computer security. He took him along the following week, and his brother continued to work for the Company for the rest of the school holidays. The thing that my eldest didn't tell them was that his brother was just 13! It was then that my son said he thought he may be dyslexic, because he was sitting next to a man who was working on a programme to test quickly on a computer if someone maybe suffering from that, or related conditions. He said I come up with several of the indications towards the condition. We made an appointment to see their resident doctor. We were told that he had indeed got dyslexia, and ADHD and dyspraxia. So we enrolled him on the programme to try and retrain the part of the brain that was wonky. He completed the course, but still struggled at school, saw educational physcologists, who came into school, of which we never saw any reports (he was not statmented) and struggled through the sixth form years too. Eventually he was offered a place at Uni in Aberystwyth where he completed his first year successfully. Then he went to the States to work on and try and get sponsorship for Thoughtrail, a programme he is developing, and also something called Instopix. He still feel he needs the cash to develop it quicker than any competitors might. He does strange things, he never seems to go out, from one day to the next. He has to be reminded to launder his clothes, although he does shower and doesn't smell, he will argue black is white. At one time if his younger brother cooked bacon he went mad (he is a veggie), and would do anything to try and stop him. He is nearly always on his laptop, and even took it with him to a restaurant on Friday when we were celebrating his grandmother's 80th. He was a finalist in something called Seed Fund in London recently and narrowly missed being chosen for funding of his ideas. He finds it very difficult to understand other people's opinions and has quite fixed ideas. I would suggest he is on the Aspergers spectrum too. But now he is 21 we cannot just drag him into the doctors, so it is really hard to know what to do, except go with the flow. He sleeps in the day because he works late into the night (more or less on American time), and is usually up around 2 pm. This makes life difficult sometimes.
  23. I don't leave my dogs in the car, but there are a few places, like our local farm shop, village shop etc., where I know they would be absolutely fine for a few minutes. I do not have a problem with that, but the dog was not with another one for company (although I suppose that doubles the wrong doing), and the owner of the vehicle and animal, clearly had not been checking regularly, because they would have noticed me and other people looking at the car. The dog was in there for at least one hour if not more:
  24. Sorry for the confusion, I am in Coventry and so was the dog in Coventry at one one of those retail parks, just outside of the city centre.
