  15. snowy and family a local family lost a young daughter tragically this year and a facebook group was started in the same way by friends, through it, the family have gone on to do sponsored charity events and raise awareness of etopic pregnancy and started a dedicated web site to the same aim. I guess each has to cope in their own way, but its never easy cloudy, run free wilma The hamsters keep playing silly beggers so i havent managed to keep up, to all in need today.
  16. Working in LDs Residential Support and rescue i know theres a million different things that need taking in to consideration prior to pet adoption. Cost - vet care, food, adoption etc, can the individual afford these indefinatly and do they have the full capacity to understand the costs involved. Care - is the level of support on offer for the individual (presently 24hr) likely to change in the future and will pet ownership create "issues" with the support staff (allergies/unwilling to assist with pet care/emergency treatment). Responsibility - does the client understand the full implication of pet ownership, legal requirements (ID, collars, straying, fouling). Future - what (if anything) will be in place concerning the pets ownership should there be difficulties/inability to care/death to the owner. Housing - does the Trust have a no pets policy - will permission to have a pet be required. Health - If the client becomes unable to give daily care (walks/feeds etc) due to ill health, will the care team be able to support (remembering that care team may change over a period of time) Holidays -What arrangements will be in place for the pet and if kennelling is required, will the clients budget be able to cover this. The list of possible difficulties is difficult (sadly) and whilst theres a 100 positive reason for anyone to own a pet, sadly, when a person requires 24 hour support to lead as independent a life as is possible, the needs of the pet have to be given 101% consideration prior to adoption. I would guess that very few rescues would be prepared to give guardianship of one of their dogs to any person who would then need 24 hour support to care for it, more so in a supported living environment. I do wish your pal luck though and hope it all works out for the best, if adoption doesnt happen, perhaps they could look for a local PAT scheme
