  1. Sham struggles in the hot weather especially at night, the car is okay with the A/C on. I walked them this morning through the woods opposite the house, shorter than normal. Hosed her down with the hose pipe (not too cold) and she's now lay on the ceramic tiles in the kitchen with the fan on her. I put a wet towel on her at night and a fan in the bedroom and she settles. She's due another haircut in 2 weeks but think I might get her done earlier while it's hot.
  2. Oh well, thought Sham might of got to meet some of you but not to be. OH is going to Silverstone on Saturday and staying over with 2 friends for the car thing. Us girls will be at home alone, mwahhhhhhh, thinking of you all having a good time.
  3. Thanks, will try our very best
  4. We might try and visit one of the days all being well. Are you allowed onto the campsite if you're not resident there?

Apparently he stressed out in kennels hence the injury to his nose. He went to a lovely foster home and thrived. Now he's settling in his forever foster home, he's a darling.

Gus the Springer Spaniel from the Oldies site yesterday. My friend and her family travelled all the way from Portsmouth to visit him in Yorkshire with her family and 2 Springers. They called here on the way back and we had no trouble at all with 6 dogs in the house. He was absolutely adorable and we couldn't understand how his owners could abandon him like that. I fell in love in 2 minutes, he loved his walk on the heath with us all and once he'd mastered the step into the garden he was in and out. He didn't really bump into that much either and he really, really, really loves his treats. He's going to be a happy chappie now, he'll be well loved and adored and I'm so happy for him after his recent unhappiness. Love to them all and here's to a wonderful life for Gus. I know that's a treat so come on, give. All going walkies and Gus is out in front (as usual Sham is at the back) haha
  7. My heart breaks for them, how sad. You can't judge in less than one day, the poor things need time and patience to settle in a new environment.

Has Kennel cough Had to take her the vets yesterday as she'd been sick and raspy during the night, her temp was up and her glands swollen but she said it was a mild case (which doesn't console when she's raspy). Apparently there is a lot of it going round. A few years ago Ruby got it when there was a outbreak at Legh Dogs Home and as it's more or less open fields from there to here it travelled. She's on antibiotics and the vet said to get childrens Benylin couch mixture which she loves. She's under house arrest poor thing and missed a long walk today with Ruby and Lindy (we went in the wilds and never saw a soul). She stayed home with her Dad watching F1 racing on the tele. She's a bit perkier today and has eaten her tea but bedtime seems to be the worst so we'll see how she goes tonight (if she's any better than Fri/Sat night) She's sleeping peacefully at the moment so fingers crossed that she's 100% soon.

  12. Happy 3rd Gotcha Day Sweetie I cannot believe you have been with us 3 years, where has the time gone. You are beautiful, funny, adorable and sometimes a pain in the butt but we wouldn't have you any other way. We love you so very much, even your Dad when you get him up for one of your regular wee wee's at 4 or 5 in the morning. He took you and Ruby up the town today (rare occasion) and couldn't get anything done for people wanting to stroke you both and commenting how gorgeous you both were. They never say that when he takes me up the town. I know we're all still a bit lost at the minute but you'll still have your beefcake and a couple of hours up the wood tomorrow morning. May we have many more gotcha days to come as we couldn't imagine being without you now. Who else could make us laugh so much with your comical expressions and your funny ways. Your fave spot, besides the couch that is. And our fave pic of you, I never tire of looking at it.
  13. Keep strong, I gave up a year ago this month and if I can do it anyone can. Always in my head I'd cave if anything happened to one of my girls. But, I looked at Rosie over the last few weeks knowing what was to come and I promised her that I wouldn't use her passing as a excuse to smoke again. I told her I'd do it for her and I did. This goodbye letter is good http://talesfromthequit.com/goodbye-letter-to-my-cigarettes You CAN do it

1st Gotcha Day Lindy Took you for a good walk up the wood today and now you're curled up asleep after your tea. I only picked you up to take you for a groom a year ago and you've been here ever since. I know you must miss your mum but I hope you're happy here and we love you to bits. You're actually a different girl to the timid quiet one who arrived here. Now you're a feisty confident madam who has obviously been learning from the other girls. Love You Lots Lindy Lou
  16. Thanks for the lovely messages We've also had lots of cards and flowers and messages on Facebook which have consoled us. Rosie was loved by everyone she met being the softie she was. I have two framed pictures hanging on a wall in the living room (one Ruby, the other Rosie) I'm sat here on Thursday night/early friday about 1.40 am and there was a big crash from downstairs. I thought the ironing board had fell over. When I got up the next day Ruby's pic was on the floor, I was stunned, it's hung there for 4 years no problem. OH thought it was a sign but I asked why Ruby's photo, he said Rosie was hoping it would hit Ruby on the head to remind her that she wasn't far away. Me and the girls had a big walk up the wood today, first time there without her and I kept looking behind for Rosie, (she was always the lagger) out of habit I suppose.

  18. Very interesting thread and even though I'm very emotional at the moment I changed my vets 15 months ago and am so glad I did so even though my last vet had hospital status and I thought he was actually a good vet but no feelings whatsoever. He was also very arrogant and thought he knew best and never listened to what you had to say. In fact he treated you like a imbecile, I've heard this view since from several of his ex customers. No wonder they keep ringing me up offering discounts as I had four dogs. He was very expensive and I had the impression that he'd do anything to earn him more money. The vet I changed to was a young vet just starting out who was a lot nearer. But he got to know Rosie so well and really bonded with her, he'd also never rush you and would ring and explain things that took him 1/2 hour or so. He has a good reputation and would listen to you, he'd never seen a case of Masticatory Muscle Myositis but took on board the information I'd got online, said it was better than his vet book and could he keep it. I feel he and his staff really felt for Rosie and the difference in them coming to put her to sleep ie: taking their time and not rushing and also not asking for payment there and then, they were here over 30 minutes. Our last vet came out to put Cleo to sleep (and made a hash of that), came in did the deed and asked for payment and left, 5 minutes tops. I knew they cared for Rosie and that made so much difference no matter what the cost although they are cheaper than the hospital status vets. Just my experience but I'd go for caring for your loved one every time (expense immaterial).
  19. Yesterday morning Rosie had a bad bleed and also lost control of her bladder on the landing. She hadn't eaten her tea the night before and also struggled to take a drink. She'd been drinking loads to rinse the blood out of her mouth. I rang OH in tears and he came straight home, we decided to let her go, she's lost so much weight too. OH rang our vet who came out at 1.15, when he arrived she got of the couch and went into the kitchen for a drink. We were gobsmacked, the water was full of blood and she was very wobbly on her back legs, so even though she'd bucked up for a minute we still decided it was time. She looked at me on the landing this morning (I was on the floor with her) and her eyes told me she was ready. She leaned her head on my shoulder like she always does and the blood was down the back of my dressing gown. So she went peacefully on the couch with us and the girls nearby, we then had half an hour with her before putting her on her fave fleece blanket in the car and taking her to Leyland Pet Cemetery. They laid her out and we spent the last 10 minutes kissing her and telling her how much we love her and will miss her. We brought her home in her casket at 5.15. We're heartbroken beyond belief, she was the youngest of our girls and thought she'd be with us a few more years yet. We love and miss you so much Our Little Babe (she answered to that) and you will always be in our hearts forever and ever. Have fun at the Bridge Rosie, hope you're chasing Cleo and having fun sweetheart. One of my fave pics of you, but I have so many. Can't wait to get into your birthday cake On one of our many Scottish holidays With your sister Ruby Another fave Sleep tight sweetheart, we love you more than words can say.
