Ernie is a 13 year old Beagle. Poor Ernie found himself in stray kennels but, after his time was up, the Oldies Club was thankfully able to offer him a place. Ernie is now in an Oldies Club foster home in Askam in Furness in Cumbria, waiting for someone to offer him a permanent home.

This is a summary of what Ernie’s foster carer has told us about him:

“Ernie has settled in really quickly and has been no trouble at all. A little bit of a brush, a bit of TLC, and he is your friend forever.

Ernie is quiet in the home and only gives a very special bark when he knows that it is dinner time, or time to go walkies. He then becomes excited and obviously has to share this with you! He is fine to be left for periods of time and is not destructive or messy in the house.

Ernie must have had a loving owner at some time as he is so good out and about. His recall is a little hit and miss when he picks up a scent (typical Beagle!) and so we mostly keep him on the lead. He’s calm around strangers, children and other dogs, and seems unphased by most things.

Poor Ernie is terrified of people washing him. It can’t be because of the water as he’s hard to keep out of streams, so it must be some bad experience of people and water combined somewhere in his past. He never growls at you, but you can clearly see that he dislikes it. He needs to have regular Maleseb baths, so hopefully he will learn that it is nothing to be scared of.

Ernie is a doll of an old gent and he never gets upset. Whoever gives Ernie his second chance will have a devoted and loyal friend by their side.â€

Ernie is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and flea- and worm-treated. Whilst in our care, Ernie has had a toe removed due to a tumour; this is healing well. During his toe removal operation he also had a dental and had 5 cracked teeth removed.

Ernie has a skin condition for which he is currently on antibiotics and he will need regular Malaseb baths in the future. He has a few lumps and bumps which don’t bother him and the vet has not felt it necessary to remove them, but obviously Ernie’s new owner will need to keep an eye on these in the future.

If you would like to give this old hound a new start, please refer to our Adoption Procedures for information about the adoption process. You can then contact an Oldies Club rehoming co-ordinator as follows:

Email: [email protected]

Telephone: 0844 586 8656

Ernie can be rehomed anywhere in the UK, subject to a satisfactory home visit, but note that you will be required to travel to the foster home to meet him.
