Urine tests done, nothing shown up but the vet said they were very odd, extremely highly concentrated and smelt like nothing she had had the pleasure of smelling before  , she took some bloods and that hsa shown that Ollie has pancreatitis, so although it can recur and is very painful it's not life threatening.

He's got some A/B's and some painkillers and has to have a very low fat diet.

Anyone got any experience of pancreatitis in dogs?

We had an oldie with pancreatitis quite sometime ago, I'm not an expert and others on here will probably know a lot more. Minnie lost loads of weight and the cause was pancreatitis. She had to have a prescription diet and medication (can't remember the name but it was a white powder we sprinkled on her food). Once she was on the diet she put weight back on and was okay, basically she wasn't allowed any fatty foods, as you've mentioned.

Sorry I'm not much help really. It can be treated but not cured I believe and the diet is costly, but our Minnie did just as well on chicken and fish.

Sending hugs and hope Ollie gets sorted very soon. Hope others on here can advise a bit better than me

Selina I am very sorry to hear that Ollie has Pancreatitis, here are some links to some useful information for you. The first is from Lew Olson's B-Naturals newsletter

Pancreatitis

Since Addison’s, Cushing’s, Diabetes and Hypothyroidism can all lead to pancreatitis, I have added some links on that ailment as well. Pancreatitis is a symptom of an inflamed pancreas, and feeding high fat diets can aggravate it, but they can not cause it. Besides the four disorders above, pancreatitis can be the outcome of steroid use, certain antibiotic use and a few other prescription drugs. Always check for the reason causing this problem. I will post a website for recipes at the end, which I find more beneficial for nutrition and controlling the fat in the diet, while still providing a good variety of foods.

You are welcome Selina. I keep a lot of doggy stuff on file, in case I ever need it. It's nice when I can help someone with my pile of "useless" information.

Anne :flowers:

Thanks everyone for your thoughts, I have to be honest and say he gave me a right scare.

Anne those links are fantastic, thank you, especially the food guidelines :liebe94:
