  1. Bless him, glad he's obviously feeling a lot better and let's hope he's home with you soon After our successful hack yesterday, Sue schooled Finn today. He's on his forehand and needs to learn to use his back and quarters properly but otherwise he was an angel So far, I can't praise him enough.
  2. I'm really pleased to hear that it worked, Lisa Good girl, Heidi
  3. Kai looks gorgeous and that ride through the woods looks pretty lovely too. Phoenix21, your pics are fab too. We took Frant & Finn out for a hack today - well, a trespass actually - but fabulous riding which is just begging to be trespassed on Finn was very good, Frant decided to get himself into a muck sweat with the excitement - no idea what he was excited about because we only walked No piccies I'm afraid because I didn't want to wear a jacket so had no pockets for a camera. I'll try to get some piccies on Sunday when Sarah rides out with Sue.
  4. Well done for getting her to the vet so promptly Let's hope it's all plain sailing from now on
  5. No words from me could ever be adequate. Mel, Trev & family. Safe journey to the Bridge, Cisco. Sleep tight
  6. to all who need them today. Sorry been really busy at work and not had time to read back. When I was at Charing X station tonight, I was queueing at the cash dispenser and there were a couple of guys in front of me - they were friends and chatting, but at different dispensers. Anyway, they left and I went to put my card in the machine and couldnt understand why it wouldn't take the card. Then I noticed that one of the guys had forgotten to take his cash. So, I removed his cash (£50) and looked around and they'd disappeared So I put my card into the machine and took out the money I needed, then I found a community police officer and handed over the £50 and tried desperately to describe the guy who hadn't collected it. It seemed so pointless to give the money to the police but I couldnt just take it (I'm too honest for my own good ) but I don't feel happy that he'll get his money back because he won't realise until he goes to spend it and he certainly won't go and ask a policeman if they were given £50!!!! So, in reality I might as well have kept it - although then almost certainly the good luck which I've had all week will disappear in a trice Not that I'm superstitious or anything ..........
  7. Morning all. I am a very happy person today which is not at all like me when I'm woken before 6am but I was woken by the loud miaowing of a Bengal cat. He has been missing for 8 days and turned up this morning outside my window, yelling to be let in for food. I am like this

    Dino

What a lovely boy The picture of him with Gill is gorgeous.
  9. I'm soooooo proud of both of you, I can't tell you You and Monty have clicked in all the best senses. He would not be the dog he is today without your love and dedication to him. Thank you for all your hard work. As you know, I was so very tempted to keep Monty myself but I've never regretted letting you and your family have him. He has such a good time with you all and he has a far better life with you than he would ever have had with me. Di
  10. Loads of positive thougts being sent Loki's way. Hopefully it will be sorted quickly once he gets to the vet. to you too, Clare. I know what it feels like when you don't know really what's going on.
  11. Very sorry to hear about Loki Happy Birthday Nott Just turned Frant & Finn out together for the first time and this is the result:
  12. Brilliant that he's doing so well Please don't tell him but I laughed at the bit about him falling in Obviously, that was because I know that now he's such a wonderful little swimmer no harm could come to him
  13. Morning all The sun looks like it's trying to break through here so hopefully it's going to be nice day.
  14. Glen's gorgeous and all those pics are fab.
  15. I am sooooo happy for Merlin and his owners Fantastic news
  16. The other thing to do is ask at local vets for recommendations. My sister is recommended by (and advertises in) a number of vets around here.
  17. My sister charges £13-£15 per hour although generally the dog is out for more than an hour. I think it depends on the area you're in. Advice would be definitely meet the dog walker first, ask lots of questions, check they have insurance and ask for and take up references.
  18. So sorry but I'm glad that Harry was loved and cuddled throughout his life and in his last few moments. Sleep tight Harry.
  19. Fantastic news. I have a lump in my throat reading his story and I'm so happy that he has a new life ahead of him. congratulations to everyone involved in this
  20. As I understand it, the answers are: 1. Horses are shod because we have changed the surfaces they would normally walk on. Tarmac/roads destroy the hoof faster than the hoof will regrow (bit like scraping your nails against grass/soft surface where they would not be destroyed particularly compared with scraing your nails against brickwork where they would be worn down very fast indeed!!) Hence we shoe horses to protect the hoof. Some horses who aren't doing lots of roadwork do go unshod but the hoof still needs trimming back at regular intervals because we're unlikely to get the balance of hoof reduction/maintenance correct in order to have a level surface against the ground. If you don't get the correct balance and the foot isn't level with the ground, the weight of the horse will cause other injuries to the limbs as the horse will compensate for the unlevel bearing surface. Horses in the wild cope with this but may well be lame, until they become so lame that they are unable to keep up with the herd. 2. Food/teeth wise is a similar scenario in that horses in the wild graze constantly and due to grazing they grind down their teeth naturally. We substitute some of the grazing with cereal foods so the teeth don't get ground down as they would in the wild. However, horses in the wild would not necessarily have teeth growing correctly but what happens in the wild is that the 'survival of the fittest' applies and those that can't eat properly eventually die of starvation.
  21. I am muchly pleased with this that I bought from Fleabay for the cats: (modelled by Harvey )
