  1. for you and your little girl - hope she is soon back home where she belongs.
  2. Fingers and paws all firmly crossed here for the lovely Joyce.
  3. Both of my Shepherds will walk nicely on lead when walked alone but the excitement of being walked as a pair seems to turn them into demons and they compete to be the one with its nose in front! I do prefer to walk them seperately to be honest as Heids still has some pretty serious issues with other dogs that we are working on, but progress is very slow! There are times though, when due to the number of hours in the day, I would prefer to be able to walk them together but although I can manage them walking is far less fun when they try to see how far my arms will stretch. I have tried every headcollar in the book with little success so thought it was about time to try them with a harness and see if that helps at all. I have never used one before so am looking for some recommendations as to which ones work best with large strong dogs and seem most comfortable for them to wear without any rubbing/chafing? So what harness do you use and what do you think of it?

  5. Noooooooo - he can't do biiig poos 'cos he is only ickle....... Poor lad - am sure it was all a misunderstanding. Are you sure it was him who did the poo? Were there any witnessess?
  6. Gawd - he is simply gorguss!!!!!.
  7. Tragic - another dog and innocent passers by pay the price once again for irresponisble owners.
  8. Healing thoughts sent - hope they make a full and speedy recovery. Years ago, while I was growing up, we had a Lakeland Terrier/Standard Poodle x and while we were getting an upstairs extension built he climbed out of a window and was found on the roof Fortunately he was persuaded to climb back in rather than jump but was a very scary experience!
  9. This I particularly agree with - when I lost Katie I was left with two dogs so was not worried about adding a third. A number of foster girls came and went but we were fine with just the two boys. Things were different when I lost Oscar - Logan simply fell apart as an 'only'dog. Luckily my initial postings about being interested in adding another girl quickly saw me pointed in the direction of Heidi who was struggling to find the right home due to a few 'issues' and turned out to be only 10 minutes drive from me. It was immediately obvious that this was the right girl for us and she joined us 4 weeks to the day after Oscar left us. You will know when the time is right Lisa because the right dog will pop up and claim a place on your sofa, probably when you are least expecting it.
  10. Am so sorry and am thinking of you. Run free little man.

  18. Incredible - one fo the reasons we call them mans best friend.
  19. Could the same not be said for the BBc programme that kicked all this off? They chose to highlight the worst cases they could find in order to make 'good' TV and stir a reaction. I know plenty of breeders and not one would condone some of the practices shown in that programme. In addition I have owned many GSDs over the years and have yet to lose one to any of these hereditary problems that are apparantly so common in the breed. There again I would not buy a pedigree puppy from a breeder that did not do the relevant health tests and am the first to agree there are some appalling breeders out there - but there are also plenty of very good ones who really care about the health and temperament of their breed. If the RSPCA feel so strongly they should be out there making people more aware of what to look for in a good breeder and not taking the stance that the word 'pedigree dog' means an unhealthy dog that will suffer a life of misery.
  20. Quite correct Di - the KC does not set breed standards. And again I agree - they are certaily open to massive interpretation. You only have to look at the GSD to see that, two totally different types of dog that don't even look like the same breed but are judged under the same breed 'standard'.
