  1. Hi I'm Christine My involvement with OC and other rescues can be blamed on Michelle (Jacobean) who e-mailed me 10 minutes after I first posted as a rookie volunteer transporter. Since then OH and I have transported for quite a few rescues, I now HC for RSPCA and others; I was temporary RSPCA HC co-ordinator for Northamptonshire from October - last week as the co-ordinator's elderly mother was ill. Over Christmas - New Year holiday I dealt with Northants RSPCA claims for financial help with vets treatment. We share our home with 2 nine year old cats, Sam & Baggins, three elderly hens - Rookie, Mushroom and Buffey ( who have free run of the garden, not actually in the house). Our dog Honey a sheltie/whippety thingybob is not yet old enough to qualify as an oldie, but OH and I probably are.
  2. Just keep your piccies coming, I lurv seeing the Mucky Chucky Dawgs. Pity Brizzle is too far away to meet them in person. Hope Sophie is feeling better, I'm sure Nurse Bailey did a good job.
  3. Recently had a new PC and my photoloader doesn't work on XP so will have to get something sorted out before I can upload any recent piccies
  4. What a start to the day. Honey thought she could walk on water today first thing this morning. The canal was frozen and she jumped onto the ice which broke. OH was only a few feet away, but she'd done it so quickly he didn't have time to stop her. She swam across to the other side. Luckily someone walking their dog on the towpath lifted her out as the banks have steep sides. OH had to get in the car to drive down the village to cross the bridge to get to her. We had to dry her off before I could go to work. We've just dropped a bottle in to her rescuer. Let's hope the nasty shock was enough to stop her doing it again.
  5. Congratulations Flora Looking fofrward to seeing lots of piccies of you and your big brothers.
  6. I asked the same question of an RSPCA inspector recently. The guideline he gave me was the dog should be able to stand up in the cage. I assume that the height - width ratio would give them room to turn round.

    Oldies Rmf

I've just split up my two cats who were having such a bad fight that they fell down a building trench in the garden and still stayed locked together fighting and swearing. Honey the dog came running out and helped. They're litter brothers but there's not a lot of brotherly love between them but they only have the occasional fall out. This was a real set to. Trouble is Sam stole a mouse that Baggins had caught. Luckily, neither seem to have any injuries except to their prides.
  8. Hi we transported Teddy for OC to Sarah & Paul. We also had the infamous Ricky on that run.
  9. Soooo pleased to hear Tricks has found his forever home, I'd been following his thread and his is such a sad story. Yipee
  10. If it's for the Oldies shouldn't it be a wrinkly skin?
  11. I opened Melp's letter to Merseyside police last night, it froze - couldn't close it. Since then I've had problems with my pc at home. I can't get on to the internet at all. Screen just freezes when I go to my isp provider's home page.
  12. Today, I had to use the emergency service VetsNow for Sam one of our cats as our vets no longer provide emergency cover. When I rang and made an appointment one of the first things the receptionist said was "I have to tell you that the charge for a consultation will be £97+ treatment and medication." Now I think that is a bit steep particularly as there was a notice in the waiting room saying out of hours/emergency consultations were £60. While we were waiting someone called and from the half of the conversation we heard their cat was having difficulty breathing. After the receptionist told the caller how much the consultation would be the caller backed off and eventually agreed to monitor the cat although they were told breathing problems needed seeing right away. It was clear the the caller had difficulty with the cost. I have no problems so far with the medical side of the service. Sam is now recovering from life-saving emergency surgery for a blocked urethra. I've no way of comparing the cost for the treatment, we seem to be looking at £700 - 800 before he's transferred to our vet on Wednesday for recuperation and further surgery to remove the catheter. Luckily, we will be able to meet the cost but I'm still concerned about the cat with the breathing difficulties whose owner had problems with the £97 consultation fee.
  13. Do like Marmite wouldn't say I was fanatic. I must confess I quite like Vegemite too The person below me is a failed fosterer.
  14. There is a Dogpages temporary forums for when it's down at http://s15.invisionfree.com/Dogpages/index.php? You have to re-register though.

  16. There's a short-haired male "Stuart" who went missing from Dunstable Bedfordshire in August. Possible sighting in Luton. Comes from London was being looked after by friends while owners were on holiday. Was posted on Doglost.
  17. I'm special 'cos my doglet thinks I am. She gives me lots of cuddles and licks to show me how special she thinks I am. I wonder why she thinks I'm more special when I've got some cheese?
  18. Pleased that Radio 4s Today programme commented on this article this morning.
  19. Are you anywhere near Milton Keynes or Northampton? There's Rabbit Rescue in that area. Let me know if you want their phone number.
  20. Hi, I'm Christine and share a house with OH John plus: Honey a two & a half year old rescue dog she possibly has some shelie and whippet in her ancestry. Sam Cat and his litter brother Baggins. In the garden are 3 ancient hens, 9/10 years old Rooky a black rock, Mushroom and Buffy bantams. Mushroom and Buffy were the survivors of a fox attack in a friends hen house who came to live with us. A number of wild mallards visit us, and one raised a family of 9 on our garden pond this year. Various squirrels - all called Cyril. More moles than you can imagine, dozens of mole hills in the lawn, what lawn?
  21. Slightly off topic but when working in a primary school, one boy wrote in his notes following a sex education class "A man has a p**** and a woman has a Volvo"
