Mischief night in Liverpool tonight! I've already had my windows egged but I got off lightly. A woman on the other side of the road has had her back windscreen smashed. 2nd time in for 10 years I've had any trouble, my road is usually very quiet!

Hope there is good news today

I do feel really sorry for some of the kids I see at work with unusual names. E.g Riverreuben , Isaacleen ( a girl). Or with unusual spellings of names and having to contstantly correct people on how to say them or spell them. We are having great trouble thinking of potential baby names!

I will be down from 24th Nov for the rest of that week and would like to pop over to meet them if that's ok. Unfortunately I can't come down any sooner.

I hope it improves soon! I'm a trainee GP and currently doing obs and gynae which doesn't help. Am working 9am-9.30pm Fri , Sat and Sunday unfortunately! At least I've got Monday off! I am looking forward to a GP job from Dec until maternity leave in April so at least those hours will be better as bump grows!

I am feeling very fed up. 13 weeks tomorrow and for the last 9 weeks I've felt nauseous constantly (other than for about 15-20 mins after eating) and have been sick once or twice a day. It's beginning to get me down a bit now and as I'm eating that often I'm worried about putting 3 stone on like my sister did in her 1st pregnancy and she's now got 3 kids and is heavier than ever!! It's like having a constant hangover! I fell asleep at work yesterday on the sofa on my lunch break, oops! I'm hoping the sickness and nausea improves soon but some people have it all the way through aggghh!

Not exactly! I am planning on going on maternity leave at 36 weeks as that is when one of my rotations finishes. so it'll be 4 weeks on my own in Liverpool.Am hoping wayne can drive up from london in time for baby's arrival when I go into labour! Then wayne is planning on taking 2 weeks paternity leave , after which I will take the rest of the 7 months I plan to have off down in London. After that I don't know aswhen I go back to work I'll have a 4 month rotation of nights, days and weekends and then a year of just days before finally being qualified as a GP and having to find a job which at the moment isn't easy apparently! Wayne may be a stay at home dad but depends on finances. At the moment we have 2 houses with 2 mortgages etc and obviously not a good time to sell.

Good news - I am immune to chicken pox yay! Just got back from the vets. They said Fred went quickly and peacefully. Am giving him a cuddle before he is put to rest in a flower pot. In a few weeks time when I visit my parents he will be buried in the corner we have as a pet cemetary in their back garden under the yew tree. RIP Fred xxx I am now ratless for only the 2nd time in 11 years. Last time I managed about 2 months before getting more rescues. My head says now is not a good time with a new baby arriving in 6 months and getting Charlie the staffie used to a baby etc but it's going to be very odd with no rats around. Wayne and my mum are telling me that getting any more at present will be a stupid idea. We'll see. It's not very nice being alone in the house most of the time at the moment!I only have a couple of friends up here and see them about once every month or sometimes less than that so it is pretty lonely!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Need some cheering up. Have found out I have been in contact with someone with chicken pox. Not good when u are 11 weeks pregnant, also means I have had to have a blood test today to check if i've had it before. If so everything will be fine! I've had to have today off work too to avoid the chance of passing it on to any babies or pregnant ladies. Should find out the result this afternoon so might be back at work tomorrow. I am having to take Fred my last rat to the vet to be put to sleep this afternoon as he has been going slowly downhill and is now not really eating and is breathless.

Fred is the last of 4 rats I got from sproggie on here around 18 months ago.. He was the most timid of the 4 and recently has been getting friendly and sitting on my lap and licking and grooming my hand. He's been a bit lonely on his own for the past couple of months and his back legs started to go a few days ago. Now he is not eating or moing around much and is a bit breathless so we are off to the vet this afternoon. RIP little man.

sorry, have just been reading from page 2 onwards! Wayne and I will (hopefully!) be having our first baby on 30th april 2009! Had the first scan today (am 11 weeks and 1 day) and baby kept trying to do headstands and somersaults! It's a shame Wayne's in London and I'm up in Liverpool but can't be helped for now. At least he got to come to the scan today!

I have one day left at work and then a whole week off which means a whole week in London with Charlie (dog) and Wayne (OH!) yay! Unfortunately I have an appointment in Liverpool next Fri morning tho so we are coming back up Thurs night and back down Fri afternoon!

Arthritis of the small bones at the base of the thumb joint where the thumb joins the wrist (scaphoid in particular) can cause the tendons and/or the tendon sheaths in the carpal tunnel to become inflamed (tendonitis/tenosynovitis) which then puts pressure on the median nerve which gives carpal tunnel syndome so your GP is not talking rubbish at all! Studies have shown that in 1 in 3 people carpal tunnel does get better without any treatment at all. If mild cases are treated early with splints/rest etc then usually surgery can be avoided. Some people only get mild symptoms intermittently and some people start with symptoms which just worsen, it varies a lot. A Cochrane review found the following "Carpal tunnel syndrome is caused by compression of the median nerve at the wrist, leading to mild to severe pain and pins and needles in the hand. Other Cochrane reviews show benefit from nerve decompression surgery and steroids. This review of other non-surgical treatments found some evidence of short-term benefit from oral steroids, splinting/hand braces, ultrasound, yoga and carpal bone mobilisation (movement of the bones and tissues in the wrist), and insulin and steroid injections for people who also had diabetes. Evidence on ergonomic keyboards and vitamin B6 is unclear, while trials so far have not shown benefit from diuretics, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, magnets, laser acupuncture, exercise or chiropractic" It is not an easy thing to reliably diagnose and many drs cannot agree on universal diagnostic criteria based on symptoms. Nerve conduction studies can be done to try and give a definite diagnosis but again these aren't always accurate and can give false negative as well as false positive results. Surgery is not always successful and recovery can take months.
