  1. I have ex-bats alongside my flock and I have to admit that they are my favourites. They each have fantastic personalities and react to you in a way non of my other chickens do. We hatched chicks for the first time this year too which was fantastic. I also have to admit to knitting jumpers for my ex-bats, luckily they all had enough feathers not to need them
  2. I am currently using a variety of Twisted Sista product and the curl spray is fantastic at reducing my frizziness and bouncing back my curl as my hair gets longer. I still stick to Pantene for shampoo and conditioner though. I like Leo Sayers hair Simikins

    Meet Duke

Oh he's gorgeous Jo. He looks quite settled especially when there's a pint of beer in front of him
  4. I'm jealous mine only lay varying shades of brown eggs and are mainly ex-battery hen, I've always wanted a blue/green egg layer but hubby won't let me have any more chickens at the moment. Have you ever tried giving them tinned sweetcorn or grated cheese - it's like a rugby scrum
  5. We keep ours in a soil run and only let them out for a wander around the garden when we are with them. They get an couple of hours every evening and are out most of the day at the weekend. Could you come to some arrangement like that with your hubby ie an hour a day in the garden? There is no problem keeping chickens in a soil run but you need to treat for worms more often and dig the soil over or replace in on a regular basis.

    Gcse Results

Good luck everyone. I work in education and spent most of yesterday in the exam department downloading and formatting our GCSE results. I think we were as excited as many of the students will be or possibly more in some cases.
  8. Modest semi (really!) - that is one lovely house Claire Now I've really got to get mine finished, we've been in for nearly 4 years now and we're still not done. Well done and happy anniversary!
  9. Aaahhh but if Fee kept him she could end up with a world class famous piano playing daughter He is absolutely beautiful
  10. Well done Michelle! Welcome home Scooby
  11. What a gorgeous boy
  12. My ex-batts have never perched, they snuggle up in their nest boxes. Our new chicks spend all day perching in the trees, on the back of the bench on our swinging chair but at night time they still snuggle up in their broody house together. We converted a summer house for our hens it was already in situ so cost next to nothing to kit out. We think 2 our our chicks are boys - any of you chicken keepers up for a c***-a-doodle-doo in the morning?
  13. I'm so sorry Cindy Sleep tight little snatch.
  14. It seems I am one of the few that cannot eat anything beyond its sell/eat by date I have a real issue with out of date food - hubby thinks I'm mad but I can't help it. If it's out of date it has to go. Luckily as we have the chooks and feed the wild bird population not much actually goes into the bin ,we don't buy much meat and if we have fish it is eaten on the day cause I can't stand that fishy smell.
  15. That's a great video, Jack is lovely Your other photos are safe
  16. It's very nice and very colour co-ordinated but where is your TV?
  17. I have 2 composters - one for kitchen/garden waste and one for chicken poop. Neither of them smell particuarly and you only get a little wiff when you lift the lids off. It has taken me ages to get a decent compost consistancy though, lots of shredded paper in with the grass cuttings and veg waste is working well at the moment. I'm sure you could squeeze a couple of chickens in your garden or maybe bantams in a little ark
  18. Sorry to disillusion you but whilst the chickens will dig up your prized plants and dust bath in your favourite border they will definately munch around your weeds. I was told that they eat nettles - it was a lie and my nettle population is still growing and the chickens are still munching around them
  19. I think it probably is. When one gentleman brought it with him when I worked in a care home everyone including all of the staff had to be treated as a precaution, after a couple of other residents were infected. The treatment we had was rather smelly but I would rather wiff a bit than itch.

    Allie

oh Allie Sleep tight little girl.
  21. We have wasps every year in our attic. They have never bothered us or come down into the house so we leave them be and clear up every winter. We have about a dozen starling and sparrow nests to remove every year as well, I'm more bothered by them as they all seem to wear clogs and have very early morning parties
