After reading some of the comments I feel we are very lucky with our vet, I was always sure we were really. Our vet has been qualifed for 39 years and that makes him in his late 50's early 60's. He is still there most days and always in demand as he is so good, but employs three other vets - two Australian girls who seem very switched on as well.
They always advocate getting insurance in case of accidents, but we tend to have a vet savings fund ourselves which we don't dip into for anything other than that - I know it's easy if you can afford it, but we are both working and make sure we do it as a priority.
However recent charges have been:-
Bitch spay £130 plus VAT
Microchip £22 plus VAT
2 x-rays £50 no VAT
Consultation for Ollie (nothing wrong) £8 plus VAT and calcium tablets 1p each
Booster £22.50 plus VAT
Repair hernia under GA £110 plus VAT
To be honest we never know what he is going to charge and the only time we were shocked was when he sent x-rays to a bone specialist for comment and they came back with a £110 fee for a 10 line comment.
The local out of hours place charges £65 standard turning up fee.
