  1. I feel a number of Fugees may enjoy this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mOA_SUKEZRE&feature=player_embedded
  2. Ever the positive spin!
  3. I liked this animation, hope some people take the message! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQCwHluBqFc&feature=player_embedded
  4. Well done Jumble, what a clever boy (and well done you! Even if I had a dog that would grab things, I'm not sure I'd have thought of that - that was quick thinking to tell him to get it there and then!) We need a photo of the triumphant hero of the hour!
  5. I thought that! But people keep telling me they think he is an unearmarked greyhound. He certainly doesn't run like one though : he Gallumphs! Pleased with this one when I compare it to the first photo I posted on the first page of this thread. Much more muscly and his bum is hairy!
  6. It's a scary thought. I think it's too easy to forget what many people have to live with as 'normal' every day life.
  7. I haven't taken many photos recently. Don't know what has got into me! I will have to take some new ones. Took the hounds to a private field I have permission to use this morning and they put up a pair of deer: AAARGH! Luckily Duke had his muzzle on, Mollydog considers deer to be for racing with, not catching, and Az is now too old and shortsighted to do any harm. None the less they all had a big run around the field at top speed before the deer popped away through the hedge and I got the hounds back. I'd been thinking that now Duke is more or less up to weight it was just his skin that wasn't quite right yet, but this really demonstrated that his stamina is still below par. Mollydog beat the socks off him after the deer - he was way behind her, I don't think he would have been much risk to it even without the muzzle. When the deer vanished, Mollydog (11 year old ex-racing greyhound) came back and demanded sausages and admiration, then was ready to go on with the walk. Az (about 12-ish lurcher) bounced about madly, came back, and did triumphant roly polies. Duke (5ish?) came back all wobbly and had to lean on me for a bit while puffing like a steamtrain, then gradually keeled over! He had to lie on the grass for a bit and get his breath back. He is now fast asleep.
  8. What a fabulous place. Love that last photo of them all doing such nice sits, did you have a sossidge ?
  9. How is Con doing now? Still have everything crossed for him.

    Urgent

    that's awful : poor rotties.
  11. I don't think he was going to have a go, it was more like he thought there was someone scary at the door ... It's worn off now, if I make the noise he gets up and looks at me quizzically with his ears all skew-wiff, but I think he's now figured out that it's just me being weird again...
  12. Oh good grief. I've just discovered that Duke has a major reaction to that squeaky noise people make with their lips. I was watching this training video (NO IT'S NOT RUDE!) and the guy sort of squeaks at the dog to encourage it. Duke went MAD! Barking and howling and hackles and went charging to the door! I thought at first that he could hear something on the sound track that I wasn't picking up, but if I make that squeaky noise he does the same thing. How odd, I wonder why.
  13. Bloody hell, I'd have walked out (and written a bunch of scathing letters of complaint.) That is seriously not on. I'm actually OK with random people seeing my body, but for a lot of people that would be a complete nightmare - and for many people it's a major cultural taboo. And not being allowed to terminate the scan on demand? No way should anyone be treated like that, NHS or no NHS.
  14. Duke has a video! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7R29P4FLERI
  15. Duke is a gorgeous big handsome lurcher (about deerhound size) who is thought to be around 5 or 6 years old. He is an easy boy to live with - and an easy boy to love. He loves his meals, walks, naps, and cuddles and as long as he gets enough of each he's a happy boy ! He is currently living with two older sighthounds and although he is several years younger, he is very happy to follow their lead and will happily nap the day away between walks - maybe waking up for a bit of a play with a cuddly toy, and of course to remind you it's teatime! Duke came into the care of DAWG from an Irish pound, very underweight and in terrible condition. He is feeling a lot better now, but should blossom even further with time and care in his new home. If you can offer him the loving home he needs, he will repay you by giving you his whole heart. If you want a dog who will be a truly loyal and relaxed companion, Duke is perfect. He might make a great 'office dog' (as long as you have space for a big dog bed, or a spare sofa!) as he adores people and is happy to spend most of the day snoozing. Duke is now very relaxed about being left for a few hours in the company of other dogs, but he was quite clingy to start with in his foster home, so we think a home with owners who are out all day might be a bit too much for him. Living with cats Duke is currently living in a house with six cats, and ignores them. He could live with a confident cat or cats in his new home as long as he is introduced carefully. Duke is also good with horses. Loves people of all sizes! Although Duke is not living with children, he seems to love everyone and has shown no nervousness around children he has met. He is perhaps a bit big and clumsy for very little ones, or to be around very elderly and frail people as he might knock them over, though he certainly wouldn't mean to. Duke will walk nicely on a loose lead once you have got started on a walk, though he does get excited at the start of a walk and can pull quite hard then! Duke enjoys a run with other dogs, and doesn't stray too far away when off the lead. He also likes to pop back regularly to check in with you when walking (and if possible, have a quick cuddle!). His recall still needs more practice before he will reliably come back on the first call, particularly if distracted, but this is improving. Would love a home with other dogs Duke loves other dogs and would definitely prefer a home with one or more doggy friends. He finds meeting new dogs quite exciting! Sadly, he doesn't seem to realise quite how big he is, so he can be a bit alarming to start with for smaller and nervous dogs, so his new owner will need to be aware of this. That said, Duke has met a number of small dogs, including a whippet and some Jack Russell terrier crosses, and got on OK with them. He has already learned to live with cats, he should get better at interacting appropriately with smaller dogs as he gets more practice. Duke is house trained, and knows how to 'sit' on command. He travels well in the car, and is very relaxed about wearing a muzzle when exercising off the lead. Duke is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and has been wormed and flea treated. To enquire about adopting Duke, check out our website www.dawg.org.uk ,email [email protected] or call 07931348498. I am fostering Duke, so if you are a member here you can also PM me if you have any questions about him!
  16. Duke was neutered today and is very very sorry for himself. He's currently fast asleep wearing a cone, poor old guy. I'd forgotten how gentle and peaceful walks with just my two are!

    Bye Bye Ty

What a fabulous smile he has.
  18. Sounds like being dumped may have been the best thing that has happened to this poor dog for a long while. I hope some of the outraged commenters will consider adopting other homeless dogs.
  19. Had Duke in to the vet today for his second vaccs and weigh-in: he now weighs 34.2Kg - at the first vacc he was 27.6! Vet reckons there is a bit more muscle to go on yet as well, so he may end up at around 35Kg. I'm NOT carrying him!
  20. Apparently it is possible for two gentleman dogs to simultaneously wee on each other. Who knew? I should get Az and Duke to start some sort of Synchonised Weeing Team.
