Ty,s Diary.

Went to the same field, I think its best to maybe keep to the same one for a while, Ty was comfortable unless I tried to get any further than than the first 30 feet of the field, and played ball and was generally relaxed, if a little guarded that I may try to go too far into the field.

Stayed very close to me for the first few minutes, then played and although she never went too far from me, there was always plenty of length left on her long-line, she enjoyed the game.

Noted that the only difference in the situation from yesterday, was that apart from having her normal diet and not Chicken and Rice, there was a scaffolding truck parked up by where we parked, and the scaffolders were making some noise, and even though she didnt seem to worry, it could maybe be something that would "alter" the way she looked at the walk today, as it wasnt there yesterday.

2 points to consider then. The food, and the truck.

It does sound as if she is food sensitive, give this a try you never know, it might work,

two meals of an easily digested protein source, such as a lamb and rice complete food morning and evening, please look at the ingredients, of the top of my head i would suggest JWB or Burns as i know they don't have corn in them, or you could just give her the chick and rice

to each of these meals add vit B6 1mg per kg of dogs weight

approx 3hrs after each of these meals feed a saucer full of pure carbs, potatoe, rice or pasta, about 2oz, if she is med size a bit more or less depending on her size, your supposed to keep this up for three mnths but you might see improvement in a week, good luck hope this is of some help

oops sorry i putthis o n the wrong thread, this place is so huge i get a bit confused

Day two.

Gave Ty a breakfast of Tuna and Pasta, crushed 2 Serene-um tabs in it, and added 4 drops of her Flower mixture.

Ty wouldnt walk any further than a few feet from the car though :( . Its like she wanted to go, but just couldnt bring herself to. I sat with her in the boot with the door open and she sat on my lap, I did some ear touches, then tried getting her out again, but she wouldnt even get out that time, so we came home. She seems really wound up today  full of energy and pestering George, and generally being a bit naughty, Ive no idea why? Id have thought she,d have been calmer because of the tablets etc, but she,s more hyper than she usually is. Odd! Just going to do some TTouches, then read some more of my book, may start the clicker training today.

Depending on where you park your car would it be possible to sit or stand a wee bit away from the open boot, and encourage her out ? it may be that you are inadvertanty rewarding her for being fearfull, was this walk in a new place for her? you might even try coaxing her out of the boot give her a really superdooper treat and then put her right back in again, baby steps are the thing with fear

Do either of those contain skullcap and/or valerian? My behaviourist (who originally trained as a vet before he decided to specialise in behaviour) told me that both of them, although calming a dog, cause the 'learning' function of the brain to shut down too, so you may be inhibiting Ty's ability to learn from good experiences that walks are ok and fun and nothing to be scared of and therefore prolonging the problem.

Of course, if you're not giving her skullcap and valerian in any form, then this post is of no use, sorry

DAY 4 (Day 3 was cancelled due to unforeseen IDIOT   )

:elefant: Ty walked :flowers:

Ty had her normal meal today, because her silly Mummy didnt go shopping  , and she had her dry food with chicken mixed in.

Then my Mum and me took her to a local field and although she at first seemed reluctant, she then jumped out of the car, and we walked for around 5 minutes or so on her flexi and muzzle. She was a bit "alert", but then calmed down, and then came across half a tennis ball in the grass, and was trying to pick it up and get her muzzle off. There were 2 dogs way down the other end of the field that were on-lead, so I went back to the car and got the longline and her ball out. It was a risk because Ty could have then wanted to stay at the car, but she didnt and when we were back in the field, I attached her longline and removed her muzzle. We happily played ball for about 10 minutes, and Ty loved it

Then I spotted a bouncy Boxer coming into the field, Ty hadnt spotted it, so I called it a day, changed the leads again and re-muzzled and went back to the car. Ty is now happily snoozing in front of the fan and Im just happy

Princess c, thats interesting about the Valarian and Skullcap, because I do give Ty that, plus part of her flower-mix she has has Valerian in it  Not sure what to do about that now

DAY 5

Ty was wary at first, but soon settled into a nice walk, played ball untill I saw another dog come in, then back on her flexi, off with her longline and on with her muzzle, and then we walked around the edge of the field for a few minutes. All in all, Im very happy with her

Planning to start the Clicker training later on, maybe after tea, or in the morning, now that I can concentrate on her and not be all worried about other things.

Going to start the "watch me" at home, then in the garden, for if idiots next door are out there and I need Ty to focus on me, then out in the big bad world.

I  love my dogs

DAY 6

Brilliant  Went to the same place again, Ty couldnt wait to get out of the car :flowers:

Did the same as yesterday, went right into the middle of the field again, swopped the leads and took the muzzle off, and Ty seems to have gone back to her tennis-ball crazy self, she had a lovely time playing fetch. Then I spotted 2 people coming into the field, with a Lurcher and a Westie, so I put the muzzle back on, swopped the leads back and headed towards the car.

Suddenly I heard a jangling sound, and turned around, the Westie was running full pelt at us  , the owner was still chatting and walking with the Lurcher owner, she glanced over but didnt call the dog, so I had to shout "Could you call your dog back please!". She did but the dog took no notice, so the owner started to run to get the dog, but by this time the dog was right there. Ty said "Get Lost", but that was all she did  and then the dog ran off, with the owner running behind it

I didnt want to come home then on that note, so I waited untill they were gone right to the other end, then played with Ty for a few more minutes, she didnt seem bothered by the dog coming over or me having to shout to the Woman and was happy to play some more, then we came home.

Fan-dabby-dozy!! I did start some clicker training last night, but didnt do much because Ty didnt seem very interested, so I,ll start again today, maybe she was just too tired.

Thanks Kazz :)

This morning Ty was just like her old self, we played and had lots of fun, and even walked around the field into a lane near the woods, she loved it. When it was time to come home, she didnt want to go

I ve not done any clicker training today, I feel guilty but Im just not in the right frame of mind, and Tys pretty knackered anyway from the walk this morning, so I,ll get this weekend out of the way and start the training with more dedication than I seem able to muster at the moment :(

Very pleased with her though

Well done Ty and of course Bebe, sounds like you are making good progress.

I did read somewhere that after a training session you should allow your dog to rest for half an hour, in quiet, as this helps them to absorb the info they have just learnt :) - probably just a useless fact I thought I'd share
