Insurance For Older Dogs

Hi all

Haven't been on here for AGES but really need some advice re: insurance for older dogs.

We are adopting another, an 8 year old rottie female and I've been trying to get her insured but can only get cover per condition due to her age.

Have found one with Argos but it's £88 per month

Any help greatly appreciated.

Here she is :)

I use Axa pet insurance for my lot. Have an oldie saluki insured with them and he must have been 8+ when I took out the insurance with them. Also have the new springer insured who has a pre-existing condition (fused spine) and they just need confirmation from vet when claiming that whatever I'm claiming for is not due to pre existing condition. In total I have 5 with them - 2 GSDs aged 7 & 8, saluki - 11, ESS - 3&5 and they are all between £22-27 a month each.

You get £7k a year, lifetime cover. I've never had any hassle claiming from them the couple of times I've claimed (all for stitches for cuts on the saluki  ). My vet doesn't claim direct from insurers normally so they pay me by cheque.

Three of my dogs (aged between 6 and 8) are with Axa and have been for a few years. I've only had one problem with them paying out cos the vet had put in the notes that Milly had a lump on her foot since a pup. Once the vet wrote to them and confirm it wasn't connected to her cancer, they paid out. They were very quick to pay as well.

Max, my oldest one (who is 9) is with M&S as he has pre-existing conditions which I've claimed several thousands of pounds for, and it's £33.99 per month, which I don't think is too bad considering.

Nother one here with Axa for both of mine, and I claimed thousands for Mollydog's leg injury and consequent operations last year.

Only gripe I have about claiming was that they insisted on putting things in the post during the postal strike, and lots of paperwork simply vanished at that point! But since then they have been great. biggrin.gif

I would talk to VIP - specialist pet brokers - who will shop around for you to meet your specific needs

I've always found them very helpful & they have in the past obtained cover for older rescue dogs where new owners struggled to find any. It was a while ago but the prices were reasonable at the time
