Spiralling Vets Bills

Oldies Club is dedicated to the rescuing, rehabilitation and rehoming of dogs aged 7 and upwards. Sometimes we take on dogs and because of the physical or emotional damage they have suffered, or due to terminal illness – cannot be rehomed.

Until recently these cases were quite rare but in the last few months we have been hit pretty hard. Our sponsor dog number currently stands at 14 and due to this our vets bills have gone through the roof. For one recent arrival who sadly has cancer in March we received a bill for just under £600. She will require more treatment for the rest of her life in our care.

As we endeavour to provide long-term foster placements with experienced carers who will ensure these oldies know a loving, secure home for their final months or years and cover all their veterinary bills we are sadly having to reduce top amount of dogs we can take in. Our waiting list is sadly growing with lots of urgent cases who we cannot currently help due to lack of funds.

Ways you Can Help

Things to do online:

· Buy flea treatment or pet food through one of our affiliate schemes such as VetUK

· Purchase Oldies Club merchandise to help spread the word

· Sponsor an Oldie

· Donate to Oldies Club

· Use Easyfundraising when purchasing items on the internet. Over 2000 of the Uk’s best retailers have joined us!

Things to do offline:

· Arrange a local dogwalk and collection

· Get yourself sponsored to walk, swim, climb, run – or something else!

· Run an oldies club stall at local dog show or other event

· Run a ‘Meet & Greet’ stall at your local pet shop

· Hold a coffee morning or a party in aid of the Oldies Club

· Organise a plant or cake sale

· Run an Oldies Club stall at a car boot sale

· Could you make things such as cards or pottery to sell on our behalf?

· Support our recycling schemes for old mobile phones, printer cartridges and used stamps.

Could you set up a collection point for any of these at work or at your local school or hospital? Or join your local Freecycle group and ask for donations of these items?

If you can help at all we would be very grateful.

Thank you so much to everyone helping us, whether by spreading the word/fundraising/sending funds etc. It's appreciated more than you know. :flowers: I hope to be able to tell you (as treasurer) that we will be able to take more dog/s in soon but sadly those we have in are draining our resources more than usual. We have a record number of sponsor dogs in, a lot unexpected. We have the funds in to help those we currently have in our care but we need those extra funds in place to be able to take some from our waiting list.

Oldies Club wouldn't exist without our wonderful volunteers and supporters and we never forget that. :flowers:

I'm very pleased to say that thanks to some further funds we've been able to take on a Collie X girl this week. It's still slow but it's nice to see that we're slowly getting there. Thanks so much to everyone for helping us with that extra push. :liebe94: We really do rely on our supporters, fundraising and continuing to spread the word.

I'm very pleased to report that we're now running back to normal thanks to many wonderful people who have supported us in all sorts of ways. :flowers:

I think this has been a wake up call though that we can only continue to take in dogs if we get the funds in to support them.

We currently have 11 dogs in permanent foster homes with a further 2 having medication for certain conditions covered for life by us. There are another 11 in foster homes, some ready for rehoming the rest being assessed and treated by vets to get them ready.

We have 5 new dogs due in any time and this is all thanks to you. I know we appreciate it and I'm sure the dogs do.

Michelle (Treasurer)
