Holistic/Homeopathic Vets

thanks guys, pretty much what I thought. He didnt slag em off or anything, he just said he didnt think it would have a high success rate and I should continue with treatment we have talked about:

Sam, I'm not sure really what the titre test is for. I don't really understand them but I think he has had them about 3 years ago when they told me he was allergic to wheat, dairy and pollen. I'm assuming its the 3 year immune injection? I've to ring him today to tell him what the homepathic/holistic vet said, so I'll ask him again today just to clarify it.

The other treatment from my vet was Atopica. I've struggled with this one and he has been on it for 7 days previously. It was an improvement, it stopped him scratching. I only stopped it due to the costs (before I realised you could order on the net  ) so that is one course of action I might take.

I don't want anyone to think I am being a skinflint, its not about money at all. I juts want to get the most effective treatment for my itchy little man :flowers:

Ken Robinson at Rose Cottage vets is both conventional and homeopathic trained and specialises in skin complaints. He is a lovely vet, takes time to talk through everything he is doing and explains in full in laymans english. Ive never felt rushed or pushed through an appointment with him and it helps he is very pleasing on the eye too

.....I've been putting tea tree oil on him, plus giving him his usual cod liver oil and primrose oil capsules. I did change his food briefly last month but he didn't like it, so he is back on Arden Grange....

Just be careful with tee tree on little dogs..

Rather than give him cod liver oil (which is more for Vitamin A & D supplementation) give him Fish Body Oil (aka Omega 3 oil) you can get it cheapest from Zipvit or more expensive from Holland & Barrett ... give therapeutic dose of 1000mg a day per 10lb body weight. It is an anti inflammetery and very good for skin problems

I personally would look into changing him on to raw feeding ...sometimes carbohydrates don't help with skin problems and almost all commercial food is full of carbs. However I think James Wellbeloved now do a kibble with just meat and potato ingredients which might be an idea to try as it will get grain out of his diet. If you want to look at raw feeding try this website

Taking a titre is instead of vaccinating a dog ... he will be wanting to titre him to see whether he still has disease antibodies in his blood so that he is protected against parvo etc ... they do this because with a dog who has health problems they shouldn't vaccinate as it can exacerbate the problems. The titre won't harm him .. however if he's been vaccinated IMO he will be protected fine. Taking the titre is just for confirmation.

It sounds like your vet is being reasonable in that he isn't just jabbing him with vaccine which some vets would do irrespective of what health problems the dog has.

I have to say that I haven't had much sucess with homeopathy for skin problems ... I personally would go with an holistic vet who will use other things such as diet and herbs.

Good luck with him.

Thanks for that Mole, he has definitely been titre tested again and I am reluctant to do it again, as I don't think anything will be different.

when was Henry last titre tested Cheryl ? the results can be very different over time

I am having a titre test myself soon to see what my antibody levels for Rabies are prior to having more pre exposure vaccines , for me it will be a yearly thing no matter where I am in my vaccination schedule
