Update On Murphy

Hi everyone,

I have just posted a picture of our lovely Murphy a Beardie that we adopted nearly two years ago. He must be 13+ years old now but is still full of character and eager to join in. We tend to call him Major Murphy as he is most definately the boss!

His back legs are not too good but that doesn't stop him from trying. We take him on lots of short walks throughout the day and this seems to suit him well. He still loves travelling in the car and we have perfected the art of hoisting him in with very little trouble. He still 'talks' to us but as we pretty much know what he wants now this is not so frequent.

One thing that hasn't changed is the fuss he gets when he's out and about. He loves the attention!

We keep his coat shortish as when we tried to grow it longer it was so thick and fluffy and unruly it gave him his other nickname The Woolly Mammoth. Fortunately he adores being groomed but his coat is not true Beardie style. Murphy is very much a character and I think contented with his life with us. We watch his weight, give him lots of vitamins and love and hope very much he will be around for a long time yet.

Hi Yvonne, great to hear from you :flowers:

I've copied the photo over from the gallery, hope you don't mind, he's a very handsome boy

Do you give him anything for his back legs? Someone recommended Synflex on here a while back and I've tried it for my older dogs and I really think it has helped. I've tried quite a few different products over the years and I think this would rate as the best.

Thanks for all your comments he IS a lovely boy and he knows it!

We have been giving him Glucosamine since we first had him (VetVits from Healthspan) which have certainly helped him. Just recently though things have got slightly worse and his legs give out suddenly 2 or 3 times on a walk. He is such a brave boy he rests for a moment then gets up and carries on. We are taking him to the Vet on Thursday to see what he thinks. I will look into Synflex, thanks for the suggestion. And yes he will get a kiss or two !
