Heya!

I'm Sian (pronounched Sharn), I'm usually called Si or Siani, I'm 17 and live in Lincolnshire right near both the leics and rutland border.

I've had dogs for most of my life, but not for the last few years. I have a problem which cropped up in October 2007 and I am still having tests to work out if there's anything we can do, which means I go deaf in either one or both ears for periods of time, and whilst I am deaf in both ears, I can't really communicate with my friends when I see them (I'm hopeless at sign language, and not enough of them are trying to learn it) so I got very lonely for a few months a year because I can't talk to my friends, and if I am deaf in one ear, I can't be in a group of people as I often miss what people say.

Because of this, I had to drop out of year 12, but I am starting again part-time in September at Grantham College taking English, Biology and Media at AS level.

Because of my problem, and often being very lonely for a few months a year, my mum agreed to get a dog. I did a lot of research into breeds, and I really wanted to do agillity with my dog. I wanted a dog that would be a mad, crazy thing for a couple of hours, but just settle down for the rest of the time. I came across White Lodge greyhound re-homing kennels whilst shopping in Melton Mowbray, and started researching greyhounds, we went to visit White Lodge 2 and a half weeks ago, and fell in love with a small, black greyhound called Lewis.

We brought him home yesterday, and he is amazing. Now called Quinn, he is brilliant out on walks, knows commands for 'bed', 'come to mummy', 'walk' after just one day. He is very smart, very inquisitive but at the same time very gentle and fun.

I hope to get to know you all (and your dogs) better. :) :GroupHug:

Thanks for the welcome everyone! You're all so lovely. :D I'm glad I can come on here and have a chat wether I can hear or not.

As requested, here are some pictures of Quinn chilling out on his bed, and out for a walk this morning. I'm sorry about the quality, they were taken on my phone.

He is very handsome, and such a gentleman. Doesn't pull on the lead or anything. :D

I'm off to get stuck into the forum! Have a lovely day everyone. :D

Hiya Baby Newb! :wavey:

Fancy seeing you here! You'll make some great new friends on The Refuge and there's always lots of good advice if you need it.

Have fun finding your way around, oh, and if you stumble across the sumptuous collars thread you'll see that I've requested the turquoise fabric for Quinn as you asked. Could you measure his neck (or the blue webbing collar that he came with) and let me know?

Alison xx

Here's Quinn's "going home forever" pic  Hope you don't mind me posting it.

Hiya Siani :wavey:

We've not met yet, but I'm sure we will on one of the White Lodge walks or something. Its great you took on Quin as he is such a sweetheart. If you're interested in agility, you should bring Quin along to our club in Markfield. They're a friendly bunch and its such good fun. I know its probably quite a way from where you live, but we do a 'Giant' breed agility day on the last Sunday of each month (starting in April) and its a great taster session.

Greyhounds are classed as giant breeds compared to the ones we do have (Irish Wolfhounds, St Bernards, Bernese Mountain Dogs, Leonbergers to name but a few), but because I'm mad about Greyhounds, Jill who runs the club, puts up with my obsession and allows greyhounds to take part too!

There is also EMDAC (East Midlands Dog Agility Club) which runs at Asfordby Sports Ground. They hold competitions there and there is one next weekend (Sat/Sun 19/20th April) - always good fun to go and watch.

Welcome to the Refuge

Markfield isn't too far, just under an hours drive, and as it's only once a month I'm sure my mum won't mind driving me. :) I will definately go and watch the competition ar Asfordby next weekend!

Thanks for the information. :) And hopefully I will see you at the May WL walk. :)
