Where Your Money Will Be Going...........

This is a very rare thread because Fionna hardly ever posts the stories behind some of the dogs that arrive at Lizzies Barn but we think that it is appropriate to illustrate where the money raised from the auction will be going  Fionna currently has an outstanding vet bill of approximately £7,000 which we are hoping to considerably reduce with the auction funds.

This bill has built up through the usual treatments such as vaccinations, worming, flea treating, antibiotics, etc but there are always those dogs that need specialist treatment too and I'd like to introduce you to a few of them.................

Dakota

Dak has now been living with Fionna for almost 4 years. He will never be rehomed because he has had problems with his eyes which have required many expensive visits to the eye specialist (technical term!) and also because he has a chest condition similar to cystic fibrosis. He is an adorable boy though and gives fantastic snogs

Badger

BadgerheadShoulders.jpg

Badger was rescued from a home where he was living in a somewhat neglected state with many of his siblings, children and grandchildren. He was a very grumpy boy and didn't like to be touched. Nobody was sure why until it was discovered that he had hip damage probably from an old accident - the poor old fella was in a huge amount of pain so it was no wonder he was telling everybody to leave him alone  His hip was treated but he was on long term pain relief and the damage to his reputation had already been done. Badge spent over a year living at the Barn without a single enquiry, but his luck changed earlier this year when he went to live with his wonderful new family where he is flourishing :D

Lucky

Lucky initially arrived at the Barn, with her daughter in tow, as an 8 year old lady with no apparent issues. She was rehomed with her daughter but, after only one weekend in her new home, was returned because she made it clear that she didn't like children very much  That was the one and only offer Lucky ever had and she has lived at the Barn ever since. She is now 17 years old and is a very tolerant old lady - she loves the visiting children and adores it when there are puppies around for her to share the care of. Given her age, she is now totting up her portion of the vet bill thanks to all the usual illnesses that old age brings with it. Lucky is a wonderful old lady and will live out her remaining days with Fionna

Sally

Sally is a belgian shepherd malinois pup. Fionna was asked to take her in by another rescue who had taken her from a pound who, in turn, had had her handed in by the dog warden as a stray. She had spent some months in foster for the other rescue but had proven herself to be unpredictable and snappy and so Fionna took her on. Given her breed, Sally is an incredibly hyperactive young lady and gets overexcited over almost nothing but she adores cuddles and kisses. She has such an amazing personality and has settled in at the Barn so well - given her own space her scary, snappy spinning has almost completely stopped. The reason for Sally's issues? She's blind :( Sally's needs are such that, again, she will probably never be rehomed and so will spend her life receiving the care she needs at the Barn

As you can imagine, there are many, many more stories along these lines as Fionna takes in broken and damaged dogs from all different sources - homes, pounds, puppy farms, other rescues - on a daily basis. Fortunately, most of the dogs stay just long enough to be healed and until *their* families find them. But those who can't be healed, or who are never "found", will live their days out as one of the very special Barn Dogs

Lizzie's Barn is an amazing place and Fionna and her family do a fantastic job.

The change in the dogs from when they enter the Barn to when they leave is astounding. :o When I first met Badger I thought he was a stayer - how Fi proved me wrong :) :)

There's also Connor who has a pancreatic disorder which requires regular medication costing about £12 a week, plus a special diet. With the medication he is fit and well.

What a fantastic person :flowers: , It's great to hear about the dogs, their stories and to see where the money goes. I donate when I can and to different rescues, I do wonder if the small amount I donate helps, reading the stories shows it does.

Fionna is amazing and her care for all the dogs at the Barn is so evident when you go and visit - they all worship her

As many of you will know, I first met Poppy at Fionna's and I wil be forever grateful that Fionna took Pops in when she was no longer required for breeding. In all the time I have had Poppy, Fionna has always been there for help and advice and even just support when I needed to talk through Poppy's illness and needed to sound off.

Even though Bumpy was from LRSE&C, Fionna was always happy to give me advice as she has so much experience of dogs with eye problems. Dakota is gorgeous and he was one of the first Barn dogs I met  I'll always remember Jazz, the beautiful, gentle blind Ridgeback, the first blind dog I met.

I really hope the auction raises enough to cover the huge vets bill Fionna has. As Sarah said, Fionna rarely asks for help but is always there to help dogs who need her :flowers:

If you've not bid on any of the fantastic items yet, get yourself to the Fundraising section as there's details there of how to view and bid on the items

Here are another pair of girls you may have "met" briefly before

Tara and Polar

TaraPolar.jpg

Tara and Polar came in as a bonded pair from a home where their owners spent 6 months of each year living abroad, which meant that these gorgeous girls spent a lot of their lives in kennels :( The girls have been with Fionna for some months now and have had very little interest indeed, we think that this is mainly because Tara is 14 years old and suffers from arthritis, so needing regular medication, but honestly! Why?? 2 beautiful girls for the price of 1  What a superb offer

I have had my lovely Megan the cavalier living with me for nearly 3 weeks now. She also came from Fionna. In the time she has been here he confidence has grown and she is surrounded by love.

I was shocked to see how much the vets bill is for Fionna. I would be worried sick with such a bill to pay, so I hope the auction raises lots of money for Fionna.

Thank you Fionna for doing such a marvouls job and helping and caring for so many dogs.

Off to the auction now
