this is a recent pic of jessica, i have just read some of the old threads that was put on this forum when jessica known as jessie at the time, was over in ireland, me and dale would like to thank everyone who was involved with her rescue and makeing it possible for us to have such a gorgeous girl, we love her to bits, and jessica is so happy with her new life, all though she has gone blind she still lives life as if she still had her sight, she has adjusted really well and gets around quite well, she has developed a scared aggresion since loseing her sight and the only dog she gets on with is her brother monty, they get on so well together, monty shows her the way, she is spoilt rotten and so she should

she use to want to chase traffic all the time, if a car went buy she would be on back legs pulling on her lead, she now hardly notices when a car goes by bless her, we use to have to gently coax her over roads and tarmac'ed paths as she was terrified of walking on solid ground, now she dosnt bother

jessicas diabetis is near under control, she tends to go up and down with her blood glucose levels, she has been on a prescription diet for several months to get her weight up, because when she was unstable her body didnt take in the nutrients, now she is quite stable, her body is takeing in too many nutrients ending up overweight, she weighed around 25 kgms, she has come off the prescription diet and now is on james well beloved, shes had her intake of food reduced and shes lost 1 kgm over three weeks, she needs to get down to 22 kgms as an ideal weight, her bloods went right down to two units last week due to her change in diet and weight loss, she has to lose the weight gradually, any change in her diet or insulin has to be gradual, our vet has reduced her insulin to 6 units twice a day instead of the 7 units she was on, our vet says she is in excellent condition, coat etc, jackie our vet mentioned that maybe one day jessica will be able to come off insulin all together and her diabetis would be controlled by food alone

jessicas next visit to the vets is tomorrow evening

jessica wasnt due to see jackie till next week for her blood tests but this morning i noticed how red the whites of her eyes were so booked an earlier visit which was for this evening, jessica will always have bouts of inflamation in her eyes due to being diabetic but a course of eye drops soon clears it up, as ive explained before she could develope nasty headaches and become off and grumpy if her eyes are not treated

jessicas weight is 23.1 kgms, she has lost nearly 1 kgm in three weeks which jackie says is excellent, she is more or less down to her ideal weight now

jessicas bloods were taken but this time jackie took double the amount than she normally takes, her blood will be sent away for a more in depth check to see how shes been for the last three weeks, the blood test has a fancy name called FRUCTOSAMINE, we will get the results sometime next week and will also find out if any changes need making, this could have something to do with jackie mentioning on the last two visits about jessica coming off insulin altogether, just a guess, this test will be carried out every two months instead of her usual blood test, jessicas next visit is in a months time and then it will be every two months from then on

her blood levels today were 4.4 spot on again, because jessicas blood levels have been perfect for the last two visits, jackie thinks jessica is now fully stablised we are so happy now to know she has made it, its took 9 grueling months but we would do it all again for jessica, we have given her the quality of life she really does deserve, this time last year she was walked into a vets to be put to sleep, jessica owes her life to some fantastic lady over in ireland who we dont know, but who we would like to know and thank her for saving our jessica, also sarah and paul who took her on, and to jenn who fostered her and a big thankyou to jackie our vet for her treatment

she is so full of life, very very happy and content, loves her toys, her beds, food, walk times and her cuddles, still dosnt like the cat or going out for wees at night
