  2. Got to agree with Rumpole, tug games are not a good idea at the moment. Maybe later on but not right now. Staffies have one *fault* they go from 0-60 in 000000.1 second You need to know how to switch the dog off before it goes into full on wayhay mode. If shes getting inconsistent messages from you jason and owner then shes just going to keep doing what shes doing. You must work out a daily routine including your requests from her throughout the day and stick to it. If jason is unable to understand the rules then you must safeguard your dog and not let him interact with her. Its harsh but the only way to succeed. Six months is feet under the table time and as the rules are not set in stone shes writting them for you. Take control now. If you would like to speak to a behaviourist for advice pm me and ill send you a number of a lady who you can ring for advice.

  10. ahhh it was you! Well done, you made a very valid point on quality reporting
  11. the negitive people arent calling in...hes got to even it up.
  12. If a sytem is in place for driving tests ect then a system can be in ploace for dog tests. Saying its impossible is writting it off. Its not impossible, everything already exists and if its that important we should push for it. Fact is you can legislate till the cows come home but it wont stop attacks and attacking after the event is pointless.
  13. a few facts for anone calling in.... There were approximately 6.8 million dogs in the UK in 2004 (2) and 60.2 million people. (3) During 2004 there were 350 convictions (4) under section 3.1 of the DDA involving 'injury' to a person. The number of dog bites per year is not centrally recorded. During a six year period from 1999 to 2004 there were on average 2.3 fatalities a year due to being bitten or struck (data was not separated from 2001) by a dog compared to 63 people who died from suffocation due to a plastic bag in 1999, 77 fatalities due to falling from a ladder in 2000 and 20 people who died as a result from being thrown from an animal in 2003. In 2004 there were no fatalities attributed to being bitten or struck by a dog but eight people died due to hornets, wasps and bees, three people died from using powered lawnmowers and one person died from being struck by lightening. (5) In 2005, 3,472 children were seriously injured in road traffic accidents with 141 children killed on the roads. (6) To some, banning breeds may seem acceptable after an event, as it did 15 years ago. However, the hastily drafted Dangerous Dogs Act of 1991 did not stop attacks by dogs and it never will, since the majority of dog-related incidents actually happen in the home. One study showed that 85% of bites occurred in the dogs' own home, the majority involving males. (7) Another study demonstrated that in over 70% of cases, people are bitten by their own pets or by an animal known to them, with children under 5 years of age most at risk. (8) An increase in animal bites occurs in hot weather and during public holidays. Attempting to further ban specific types of dog will not protect the public. One study showed that that there was actually little impact on the number of hospital attendances due to bite injuries following the introduction of the DDA. (9)
  14. Im sorry and im really trying not to find fault with your posts but I find it incredibly insulting that you would consistantly post people may not care about children killed by dogs and that people may place their dogs above the life of a child. How dare you? I have four children and four dogs. I have pts dogs we took in via staffycross that i felt where not safe. I have suggested people pts dogs because the risk outweighs any other option. Elliee was the same age as my eldest daughter. Ive lost a neice, I know what that feels like to lose a much loved and wanted child. Dont you dare keep implying we place a child life lower than a dogs. We do not!
  15. Show me one person who, after an incident, is not heartbroken? I honestly do not agree with covering private property after an event. And it isnt the most important thing for us too?
  16. hmmm id say it ties in with the kc plan to have legislation to cover private property too.
  17. Define turned. My dogs are well socialised, fairly well trained and so are my kids. The chances of them "turning" imho is slim and would need a reason. Short of illness or my children being unpredictable around my dogs (unlikely , they respond to voice commands too in general) then i will only ever need my voice. I do not allow them to become even slightly out of my control. They become slightly hyper even in play and I put a stop to it. Everything is controlled. All remain calm and steady and thats by me using my voice more than physical strength. I do not walk my dogs together and i do not let them off lead. I remain in control at all times and thats what makes my dogs safe around my children. If something should happen my dogs on a couple of occasions have looked to me to protect not taken it upon themselves. If it ever comes to a show of strength then yes, i beleive i could handle them physically and with words.
  18. Im sure the mods will kick my butt if they dont like what i said, thats their job and lovely people they are...doesnt change my thoughts tho. I do NOT want to be here again in a week,a month or whatever and unless people work to the problem prior to an attack we will be. Hacked off i am. I got woken at stupid o clock yesterday with the media hounding for a quote on a subject, at that time, i hadnt even heard about. Almost exactly where we where this time last year. Nothing has changed. We have the power to change if people stop harping on about after the envent and deal with the factors that lead up to it. The families involved would give everything they could to turn back the clock. I dont need to know them to know they feel like that. Atm everyone is suffering and i want it to stop now.
  19. Totally. Im 7 stone and my dogs weigh in at a total of 130 kilo. They do as i ask not what i physically force them to do.
  20. Hello. Incase anyone noticed ive not been around for a while. Broken puter. New one now. Hope everyone had a good xmas? Im back *cue evil laughter*
  21. My opinion being that instead of bleating on about how we should punish those who lose people to dog attacks we should concentrate on stopping the attacks in the first place is wrong? Thank you for your input, I'll keep your words of wisdom in mind next time theres a dog attack, which there will be, because we need to focus on after and not prior to attacks...on your planet....
  22. Hello. I have been offline for a few weeks due to a broken computer. Fridays events and the massive fallout have caused me to but a new puter while the other is still being repaired simply to get back online and help the wonderful people i work with. Then i saw this: . What planet are you on? With all due respect, do you not think that everyone conected to this incident will hold themselves responsible? You say you know people who have lost children, so have i. Thankfully not thro a dog attack but other unexpected reasons and they blame themselves. NOTHING you do to those involved in this horrific incident will make them feel any worse or make them anymore responsible around their children. You want these people to be hauled thro a court and shamed any further? Will that bring back this baby? Will it make them realise something has gone wrong? No uit bloody wont. So instead of wanting to punish those whose hearts are currently breaking how about you think of something that stops these innocent children dying in the first place. Until then sit down and shut up!
  23. We followed the advice of rest but nora still limped on and off. Swelling on ankle too meant she went back in for x rays last week. These where sent off to a specialist along with bloods for other DJDs . The bloods are clear which is good but the specialist has diagnosed with OCD, a condition afecting cartiledge. Theres no cure just managment and possible operation however on the hock, the prognosis with the op is guarded and may make no difference or actually make things worse. So atm we are managing with metacam and rest and will deal with anything else as it happens.
