  1. I can't walk my three together, Islay and Harry walk like a dream but add Lucas and they go into aggressive pack mode - in fact I can't walk Lucas and Harry together either as they set each other off and are too strong. Luckily Lucas doesn't mind being left alone while I walk Harry & Islay or I'd be stuffed
  2. It is the attention he doesn't like (he's 12) and yes it is art (he's far better than I was at his age and has been told that he's above gifted and talented). He draws constantly at home and has done since he could hold a pencil. His school encourages a creative approach to all subjects and he's doing well all round but recently his English book went missing - he handed it in but teacher swears he didn't and marked him down in a recent assessment. He's done a fab drawing (teacher said they could) to go with a written English assignment (character description which is also fab)which I think could help towards showing his teacher that he isn't avoiding work but he's refusing to add it because he doesn't want there to be a chance that she would show it to the class. I'm just worried that this will carry through to other work but I'm respecting his decision so hopefully it'll work itself out.
  3. Happy Birthday Kathy, hope you're having a lovely day!
  4. What do you do with a child who is avoiding what he excels at because his peers crowd around him saying how good he is? Beautiful wren Pumpkinmonstercat killed a beautiful yellow crested wren last week She was so delicate but I didn't get her off him quickly enough. :GroupHug: to those who need them
  5. I put some food out for the birds and my cheeky, bright as a button Robin friend found it immediately, ate his fill and then spent the rest of the day guarding it so the other birds didn't get a look in
  6. I want to be in cycas' head My lovely victorian house wot breathes and creaks and has a front door which has to be bolted top and bottom or daylight comes through is becoming less appealing as every day goes by Where's the clingfilm?
  7. Just when I thought I'd got rid of Ceri & OH (testosterone overload over Christmas ) the snow comes & everywhere grinds to a halt so Ceri's school is closed & OH's course cancelled Oh well... :GroupHug: to all in need
  8. Happy New Year Kathy, wishing you and yours (and all fugees) health, wealth and happiness for 2010 and beyond
  9. I went through the whole process from first visit to final positive biopsy result (thankfully) without telling anyone except OH (big mistake - he fell to pieces before my eyes). I was really protecting myself because I didn't want my family calling to see how I was when I just needed to get on with looking after Ceri and wouldn't be able to tell them anything useful until I knew the results. So glad your Mum has the all clear, that's the important thing, it is a shock though to find out they've been dealing with it without your knowledge - my Mum did the same
  10. Steam, steam, ateam Supposed to be the best and safest way to destroy the eggs, larvae and adults - even my vet didn't argue when I declined her offer of chemical spray in favour of steaming. Perfect for soft furnishings and crevices (that word always makes me snigger - very childish )
  11. You're definitely not alone but perhaps after Sam has had chance to respond properly Good luck from me too Jazz - could be quite an adventure!
  12. Call in sick - what are they going to do - sack you? Keep safe wishes for American guy Congratulations Jazz
  13. Just beautiful! And they all look like butter wouldn't melt
  14. Nige Poor little duck didn't make it, she died the next day but the rescue said at least she was comfortable. Sleep tight little one, I'm so sorry
  15. Lots of good thoughts to Angela and all who love her, including the dogs
  16. My Dad did that I'd rather pay £40 to rescue a turkey or two than to eat one
  17. Bright Blessings to all and Happy Anniversary Alicia and Ray
  18. Thinking of you Enjoy the Bridge beautiful Milly, until you meet again
  19. Alex I'm so sorry, sending lots of calming, comforting thoughts for Millie and for both of you.
  20. Thank you It's apparently a female Pochard duck, absolutely beautiful It has a neck wound (from my horrible cat ) so has been given painkillers and antibiotics and we can phone in a few days to see how she's doing - fingers crossed she recovers fully. Lower Moss Wood Educational Nature Reserve and Wildlife Hospital (near Knutsford) are amazing! They respond positively every time, will send out volunteers if you can't get an animal there or can't catch it and never mention money though they do need it. They also have a gorgeous hairy lurcher Will definitely be helping them out
  21. Found a little duck hiding under the Christmas tree this morning Poor thing has spent the night in a room with three dogs - I'm so proud of them, all they did was sniff Off to Lower Moss Wildlife Hospital in a mo - hope it's ok. Damn cats for those in need
  22. That sounds awful Brodies Mum Maybe give Macmillans a miss then, you don't need any more hassle (though I've only heard good things about them ) My Dad's 76 and woe betide anyone who tries to talk down to/ignore him - he's sharper than most of the people he deals with, qualifications or not. He once had to point out to the consultant he was speaking to (who assured him he'd read his notes thoroughly) that he wasn't 74, nor was he a female and he was there to discuss his neck, not his arm - all of which was written inaccurately on his file
  23. It might be worh you giving them a call for advice, they may be able to help you support your parents without being dragged down and may have suggestions about his treatment so far - worth a try at least. Would your Dad feel like contacting them? I'm sure he's as worried about your Mum as he is about himself, probably more so If it helps to write it down here keep doing so, you need support as well
  24. I'm so sorry to hear of all you and your family are going through One thing I can suggest is to take a dictaphone to every meeting, my Dad does this and it's proved invaluable. Have you and your family been in touch with Macmillan Cancer Support at all? Sending you all positive wishes and strength, especially your Dad
