  1. Also add him on this part of the forum as well http://rescuehelpersunite.forumotion.com/d...-new-homes-f43/ as you then will have him on both the direct home to home forum and the rescue space needed forum. It takes a while to find your way around.
  2. Have you tried here http://www.sbtrescue.org.uk/ They will only take full bred staffs and not X's. Also see... http://rescuehelpersunite.forumotion.com/p...e-back-up-f161/ or another section on Private rehomings needing homes. Good luck
  3. re glucosamine supps for arthritis...my vet recommended these ...Glycoflex http://tinyurl.com/Vet-uk Good ingredients and reasonable cost from VetUK. Am using them and dogs doing well.
  4. I've never insured my dogs (all crossbreeds or hardy working type terriers) until I got my latest 5 year old Staff from rspca who had a 6 weeks freebie with Petplan. Unfortunately he came with two badly infected ears, bad feet and urineary infection and I just had a feeling he was going to have problems. Petplan charged me £22 per month with urineary exclusion as he had this whilst he was in foster with me. I had a hell of job getting them to pay out on the ear infections (he had to be put under three times due to him not allowing vets to get into his ears) as he'd had some cleanaural proscribed whilst in foster and they only paid out after intensive pressure from my vet and info from rspca. It took them ages to pay even when they agreed to and my vet had to ring up and chase as well as me. Petplan are supposed to be a good company as well! I had £80 excess so I was still paying for minor stuff. If this is insurance then they can bog off! It will be the £30 a month thing for me next dog I get.
  5. http://www.ukrcb.org/symposium.htm Venue is just off motorway and has nice quiet parking for those taking their dogs
  6. Have to agree with Ruthi. It's slow everytime I try to get into it... just now took ages to get into site and then it took ages to get the graphic bits up. The board has been really quiet recently and IMO it's due to people not bothering with it anymore cos it's so slow. RHU which must have a fantastic amount of traffic is immediate for me (broadband). I have to say I only persevere with it due to the Oldies being on here.
  7. There has been one reported sighting of Missy. A girl rang Halifax rspca and said she had seen Missy outside ASDA at Rochdale. The girl spoke to a staff member at Hx rspca and they think she was genuine. Some guy had Missy on a skipping rope. At this time don't know when the sighting was but think it probably was Thursday last week. Is there anybody in the Asda area of Rochdale able to put posters up please? Or give the local postal sorting office for the Asda area of Rochdale a poster as postmen/women are the people who will notice when a different dog arrives on the scene. Please pm me if you feel you could help. Thank you.
  8. Thank you Owl...am doing what I can. Am week behind cos I was told that another rspca volunteer was sorting Tod but she has no internet access ... think it's a case of if you want something doing so it yourself. So I've lost a week. Am trying to get things coordinated i from Halifax up towards Tod. If anybody lives between Tod and Rochdale or Tod and Burnley would be grateful of any help in putting posters up. You can get posters from DogLost website http://www.doglost.co.uk/page.aspx?pg=83 Missy is number 17840 on first page click on her name and at bottom of page wil give you info on how to get posters. Thank you
  9. Thanks for alerting me to that info on doglost Owl. Missy has **not** been found!!! The poster called Heather who stated "my dog has been found" is probably a malicious poster. What do these people get out of it ?
  10. Missy was wearing a pink shiny studded collar and had two tags attached to it .... one giving the foster carers info and the second with Halifax RSPCA's phone number on it. She has a toe missing on her back right foot.
  11. Missy is a young shar pei bitch who went missing from the well fenced garden of a foster home in Todmorden on the Yorks/Lancs border...half way between Halifax and Rochdale/Burnley on Wednesday April 1st 2009. She is a friendly dog with both humans and dogs but does **not** like small animals or sheep. She was seen afterwards running around the streets in the vacinity and later on the canal bank but no sightings since. As Todmorden is on the border with Lancs we feel she may possibly head west into Lancashire. As she is a very distinctive breed she is quite noticeable .... so if a dog like Missy suddenly appears in your area with somebody who did not have a shar pei before ....would be obliged if you could please pm me . or ... ring Halifax RSPCA on 01422 365628. Missy is microchipped and has a toe missing (not sure which one yet but will update when I know) Thank you for your help.
  12. I would agree with this....PETA have an agenda contrary to keeping animals as pets.
  13. Thanks blackmagic Yes get it now Am used to Halti and Gentle Leader but always interested in anything else that's out there. Will be buying a kumfi to see if it makes a difference to some of the rescues I work with. everyone
  14. Would be interested to know what the difference is between the Kumfi and a Halti? I have looked at the Kumfi before but until you actually try them out it's difficult to tell. Thanks to everyone for their experiences of figure of 8 and other headcollars.
  15. Just wondered if anybody has experience of these? http://www.gencon-allin1.co.uk/ A friend has been to another rescue for a week where they use these and she says they work well. Thanks
  16. I've had two double door tailgate guards on two seperate vehicles. The first rattled a lot and went rusty and wasn't cheap. My present one came from ......... http://www.lintran-products.co.uk/ This is perfect IMO. It's very sturdy, black galvanised, well fitted and reasonable cost (in comparison to others). You can also have a divider fitted which you can remove as and if you need to. I did travel down to Lincs to have it fitted but you can install it yourself as they will send it out by post. They have to make them to fit different vehicles. HTH
  17. Is anyone else having problems with the forum "hanging" and being very slow when changing from topic to topic. Or is it just me? I don't seem to have probs on other forums.
  18. I always walk on my own...purely out of choice.....but I have three dogs and so I'm not alone. If you want to go somewhere more remote you'll def need to learn how to read ordnance survey maps - but they're dead easy once you know how. If you start by reading the map of your home area and going on your normal walk and following it on the map it will give you a start as to how it works. You can print them off from Google for any area you want to visit and then you can check on the satellite to see what the area looks like in the flesh (so to speak). When I go to a new area on holiday I always visit the local information centre and they usually have books with local walks in them. I like these cos sometimes the paths shown arn't shown as a public right of way on the OS maps and are only known by local people. They also usually point out interesting things that only locals know about which you can watch out for on the walk. I've never had a problem whilst out walking alone in the countryside or even in the remoter areas. Would be more worried in a town personally. Go for it!
  19. What sort are your harnessess and where do you get them from? Always interested in different type harnesses.
  20. This is quite a good site if you are worried about trying new places.....should build your confidence up a bit. http://www.drivingwithdogs.co.uk/index.html
