  1. Hurray for these oldies finding loving homes, I hop you get more fosterers soon - I know when I can foster I'll fail miserably in the best way!) possible x x
  2. Oh Bekki, its a heart breaking decision, but better to give them some dignity when that time comes. I look forward to seeing a picture of him I remember in possibly having this decision coming up soon myself for Tessie (see elderly staffie thread) that we have been so blessed to have had them in our lives, even in some cases, for only a short while, but that for me, I think that God needs such sweet souls back sooner, as they are too lovely for him to be without for so long, that helps me feel better, and I know she'll be waiting to greet me when I move on that way myself too x x
  3. Awww loving the pics - and a lab of 19 years young - you lucky lady, I love a grey muzzle!!! xx
  4. Thank you for the kind messages x I saw Tessie this morning when Tinky went in for her dental, and it was not good - Tessie wasn't moving much, on a drip and looked really not good at all. I was distraught Good news this afternoon though, I picked Tinky up, who is a little grogy but still managed to bark the whole time after she came round in the recovery ward! I got to take Tessie out into the gorgous sunshine on her drip, she walked a tiny bit, and slept in the sunshine, I think it was really good for her, and while she is still not very well at all, it was a big improvement from this morning - my heart leapt that she looked up and recognised me, even if she didn't have the strength to get excited. Everything crossed for her being even better tomorrow, and thank you for the reiki and kind thoughts & prayers xx
  5. Hi Bekki, welcome along the Oldies Club is very special, and its great to see someone else looking to support in any way they can - hopefully you can make one of our walk-get-togethers sometime x Your doggies are gorgeous - what adorable faces! Well done the bungy jump - you're very brave!!!
  6. I know some of you know that Tessie had been unwell; and over the last 24 hours she really took a turn for the worse I thought I was losing her - with sickness and diahrrea in the middle of the night, then she wasn't moving. I called the emergency vet, and at 3am we were at the surgery. At the start of the week, the vet had said she thought Tessie had intestinal cancer, so you can imagine how scary it was. Anyway, a little good news in this is that some of the tests she was due to have on Monday coming, have already been done, and there is no sign of a tumour!! The vet will be testing bloods, and there is a chance it is gasiritis (sp?) or salmonella - something like that - so not good, but easier to treat than cancer. I can't wait until tomorrow, as I'm taking Tinky into the same surgery for her dental, so I get so see my special girlie, I just wish it was tomorrow morning right now!! I'll keep you updated, but just to let those who know a little from over the last few weeks, where we are today xx
  7. Ohh excellent! thank you! I personally don't have a gazebo, but I'll ask around, I have friends that possibly have one I'm sure! x
  8. Hi, yes I can, do a morning and come back to help pack up later if need be - I live in Bath and its only about 10 mins away from my house! Although I have no oldies club merchandise/info, so I would need some one to show me the ropes, but I can rave tirelessly about the Oldies Club, so I'm off to a good start with that hopefully xx (I'll send you my number)
  9. Cher I'm so sorry I missed this, and about you losing dear little Polly too - she was such a sweetie and she knew she was home when you took her in xx I can't put into words how my heart aches for you, you know where I am if you want to talk, always thinking of you, I will miss give Ebbi's big soft head kisses; rest peacefully dear Ebbi xxxx I also meant to say, the garden you have done for them both with the doves is beautiful, and when it fills out, what a lovely reminder you will have of their beautiful and blessed time in your life when the flowers bloom each spring and summer especially xxxx
  10. I watch a lot of Cesar Millan, and he is definitely anti BSL, he takes on many pitbulls in the states considered dangerous dogs, and rehabilitates them to live in his pack. He also does a lot of work with the American Humane Society working with dogs they can't rehome, helping them with their issues. I think he's fantastic - admittedly, there are a few things I have seen him do that I disagree with, but on the whole, his approach; that is, understanding a dog's mind, and being a calm assertive leader I believe to be a really good one. He has a show on Sky 3 at 7pm every week day evening, if you see any of them, it might help you consider what you think - there was a repeat on tonight where they were helping a dog to be a service dog (called Sparky) and there is a really good scene in there where he takes the woman, who is anti-pitbull based purely on ignorance, and they spend some time with just those dogs - its amazing and heartwarming to see just one more person change their opinion - I'm sure you can see clips on youtube x
  11. Awwww, that's a lovely message! What lucky new parents xxxx

Welcome to The Refuge, its great here, so glad you have joined us - and you're right, you are in good company to talk for ages happily about Pixie when ever you like, we love it - especially when there are more pics! I'm a big staffie lover, I especially loved the second picture, such a gorgeous girlie! I have 3 elderly rescues, 2 staffie girls, and a girl jack russell - Tara, Tessie and Tinky x

  23. Hi Fee, Is this dog still in need of help do you know? Is he in our area (Wilts/Glos/Bath)? I mentioned this to my ex, as he occasionally has my 3 girlies for a few days, as he really misses them - and understands there are lots of urgent situations, and he was willing to foster this older boy until a space can be found (or actually until he falls in love with the dog, and asks you if he can keep him!) Not sure if a foster place with him is ok, but asked as he was going to take on a private foster recently, but the owner privately rehomed in the 11th hour. xx
  24. Hi, there is an awful loooot of great advice on here. Kelly, definitely go out - you dont have to go nuts, but put on some clothes you feel goo din, nad go out even if just for a few hours. Remember the most important person in your life is YOU - don't take second best, don't sit around wondering for so long you drive yourself potty with the same thoughts. I've been there and done that, and its exhausting Also by Steve keeping contact in a friendly way, allows him a comfortable middle ground, esp if you were to continue to allow it. Cher is right, the big thing you need to do is allow time to grieve, and if its going to work out that you get back toghether, you definitely need time to miss each other. A lot of relationships break up because there is no fun anymore, and people forget their dreams - ok, you're a unit together, but always remember what you want from your life too - and take control, you're the only one that will make it happen. On a more practical point - I work for a mortgage broker, pm me if you want to chat over any of this - but the big point is that if he is joint on your mortgage, then he will be jointly liable for it until his name is removed, so if he doesn't pay his share for example, after 3 months, and you dont have the money to make it up - it will effect both of your credit ratings. (sorry for the financial bit, but trying to remember everthing I wanted to comment on!) Dizty lips, I wish you all the best too - it can be awful when a recent ex gets a new partner, I got over that a few years ago when I first heard about my ex, by constantly saying to myself, that I didn't want to be with someone who didn't want to be with me - why would I break my heart, and pour my soul out for someone who just didn't know/didn't return the same affection. I'm now seeing a new guy who treats me in exactly the ways I need to be treated without even needing prompting - he's a good one! I broke up with my previous ex 6 months ago, and Im 32 with 3 elderly dogs, just to put into perspective, so you're not alone, and you do meet good ones I hope something in there helps someone, bit of a ramble now I look back, and I didn't think I had much to write!!! big hugs girlies xxxxxxx sorry - just seen lots of typos but am not going to go through and edit it all, sorry folks! xxx
  25. Thanks Fee - I'll send them on And that was more info than anyone could tell me on how the stamps become money, so I'm a little wiser! x
