Sorry for not replying sooner Jules. Poor Ollie
Pixie sometimes seems to be weak in her back legs. She's a 10 year old greyhound. I couldn't work out if it's one leg or both, it seems to be either leg. It only happens when she's walking and never in the house. She defintely seems to do it more after she's been in the car (she insists on standing up so that must make her more wobbly when she gets out) and she also seems to do it more when she's very tired or when she's bored on her walk. The best way I can describe it would be to say it looks a bit like people do when someone nudges them in the back of the knee and they sort-of wobble.
I panicked and thought it was CDRM but I was told by an orthopaedic vet that he's only ever known it to occur in GSDs.
My own vet couldn't really determine any issues. Neither could another vet at the same surgery. Then the orthopaedic vet said it was most likely a compressed disc in her lower back. Then another vet said it was muscle weakness. What I don't understand is that if it's a disc problem, she can still very happily run like a loon up the stairs and jump in the car She isn't in pain because I'd certainly know about it if she was.
The last vet we saw said to increase the pace of our walk then slow it down, then increase it and so on. Since I've been doing that, she's much more alert during her walks and is less wobbly. I've also been doing very short spurts of running with her on the lead, so she can really stretch all muscles but under control. It's not easy with a greyhound but, again, it seems to be making a difference. I'm hoping it's more likely that her muscles weren't as exercised as they once were because her recall had deteriorated so she was much more lead-bound. At the moment she's doing ok.
I hope Monday's outcome a good one and it's hopefully something very simple to resolve or control. Just a quick mention about the GA, you could check that your vet uses Rapinovet. It's the one they normally use for sighthounds or those that take a while to recover after. I think many vets use it as standard now but it's probably worth checking.
Good luck
