  1. Snowing quite hard here in Chesterfield...OH said Dylan was really excited on his walk, leaping around like a mad thing! I just opened the back door to see if he wanted to go and play in it and he looked at me as if I had gone insane
  2. My apololgies Liz...I was confuddled, and I confuddled you as well! oh well, better good wishes early than not at all
  3. My little pap (long gone to the bridge) did that one summer but not on ice, on duckweed. We were walking by the canal and it was warm weather, with a big growth of weed on the water. Revel obviously thought it was grass, as he walked confidently on to it and promptly sank! he came up and swam straight to the bank, luckily unlike you, it was easy to fish him out. He had a neat little cap of duckweed on his head, and got very indignant because everyone we passed was laughing at the sight of a soggy papillon draped in duckweed. Hope your girl doesn't have any illeffects from her cold bath
  4. For a wild moment there I thought you were talking about Gary..then I realised you meant the dog! (well..maybe you DID mean Gary?)
  5. Keep the heating off Claire... when we are cold, we burn calories trying to keep warm, so you'll get into that dress faster!
  6. Snow, what a horrible start to your day, thank goodness you are ok, and everyone else too. Do they not grit around your way when its frosty, or was this just one road that had been missed?
  7. Morning all! our boiler had gone out yesterday as the pressure had dropped, but its fine today. How did the viewing go, Claire? are you hopeful? and if they buy it, are they keeping it running as a boarding kennel/rescue, or purely rescue and will they keep your prices?
  8. I just looked at the BMI index calculator on that Lighterlife site....if I was two and a half inches taller, my BMI would be perfect! anyone got a rack handy?? as it is, I come into the overweight category
  9. Sorry...I cant remember how old she is? assuming she is old enough to understand, point out to her that if she lets her sight in that eye go completely..when an operation could make it better...then in the future, something happened to her other eye, she'd have no sight at all. Hopefully she'll see the sense of that? if all else fails, resort to bribery! there must be something she really really wants....?
  10. Speaking for myself, I dont think I really want to..I'm not into that sort of thing
  11. How the heck did you manage it Claz? I went to Weightwatchers and did their plan for a week...zilch weight loss. Tried for a second week...lost a whole 1 lb! I decided I was losing more in money (that I couldn't afford) than I was in weight so chucked it in.
  12. Marie...is there any danger attached to the operation, apart from the usual one of anaesthetic? If my daughter was in a similar position I'd want them to operate just in case, I'm fed up with reading in the paper that diagnostic mistakes have left people ill for longer than they should have been, or in some sad cases of cancer, dead when they shouldn't have been! who is to say that the surgical guy isn't right and the medical one wrong? Poor Erin must be totally fed up with everything, I really feel for her. Hopefully that bump with the car will teach that child to use the road safely in future! I'm sure kids think we tell them to do things just to make their lives difficult
  13. Well, maybe he has and maybe he's lost his hair, but thats just dressing, isn't it? its the personality of someone you fancy as much as the appearance (luckily for me, as I've put on two stones and developed various ailments since I met my OH!)
  14. How is Hobbes this morning? I hope this terrible experience doesn't set him back too badly in his acceptance of other dogs
  15. If there was a good reason for her wearing trainers, then the school should have accepted that. Saying she is excluded seems rather strong. When I went to school...a grammar, if anyone remembers them? we could only get our uniform from one shop, and yes it did include the colour of knickers! if you forgot your PT skirt, you had to do games in your knickers, the gym wasn't too bad, but playing netball or hockey or running round the field in your knickers was rather embarrasing, even with navy blue ones..can you imagine a thong???? If we broke the rules, we got detention and lines. One hundred times * I must wear my beret outside school* or *I must not remove my tie unless directed by a teacher* type thing.
  16. So sorry Tracey I wont put them here as I think you'd prefer to read them when you feel you can...but you might find these poems comforting. http://members.lycos.co.uk/evangeline/domestic/poems.htm
  17. Oh dear....I was so hoping he would make it. to his family, particularly the little girl, its very hard to understand at that age.
  18. So sorry the time she spent with you must have been her happiest...sleep well Jessie.
  19. I'm rather concerned that she hasn't come back with an update hope that doesn't mean bad news!
  20. My little pom I lost fourteen months ago used to have occasional fits, but she was back to normal within five minutes...I'd definitely get back to the vet, it doesn't sound too good. Poor Max, and poor you.
  21. I hope for Max's sake the new medication works..and if it doesn't I hope for his sake that you will do the right thing by him. The growling, if its unlike him, is probably an indication of how much pain he is in. for you and Max.
  22. I remember fondly a boston terrier a friend of my mother owned. She and her husband ran a small boarding kennels, and specialised in taking inseason bitches in for the duration. One memorable day Dirty Bertie, the boston, scaled the wire and managed to mate three in season pekes before he was spotted! he was a lovely dog, but he lived up to his name.
  23. Dobes! They look so elegant yet strong, and they have a wonderful nature, intelligent and bold without being aggressive. I'll never have another, sadly, but they are my favourite. Saphyre (black) and Topaz...both sadly long gone, but never forgotten
