Exactly. I have been nagging the Beeb to do this programme for a couple of years - hopefully it has hit home with some people. I am sick of some people who have said to me "Oh I couldn't watch it, far too upsetting" however this is real life, it happens every day, and IMHO people need to watch this no matter how upsetting it is (and I won't lie, I cried) because information is power, and something like this will not be forgotten, and hopefully it will make people think.
  2. Morning all. You've got my big skydwelling shiny thing Is cooooold. Still. Very wound up by a certain Superintendant Pendty on her views on killing seized dogs. Stupid stupid stupid ignorant arsefaced bint
  3. Morning all for those in need I wanted to go out for the day with HRH today, as when Mark got in last night he told me he was doing a split shift at work. However he is still asleep so don't know what time his shifts start - assuming 12-4 then 6-finish. And I am so bloody tired. Going to have a Google and see if I can find somewhere within an hours drive which is all widey-open and fairly easy to walk. Was going to go to Brean although its a bit further, but not sure I can cope walking on the sand with my stick at the moment. I would probably end up getting stuck and falling over, then doing a stranded fish impression trying to get up
  4. Morning all Sad few days for lots of Fugees :GroupHug: I went to my Mums for the night on Wednesday, it was lovely to get away from moaning and stress We had a lovely meal and Scooby got to sleep on the bed wit me I do miss having him snoring in my ear at home (he's not allowed upstairs where I am at the moment) Hung parliament then. That will be my fault (according to Marks mum) cos I didn't vote for one of the Big Three. Maybe I will bugger off for another few days to escape the fallout...
  5. Morning all Ooh I might need one too... Lynne - that field that runs behind Tatham Court (to the left of Tesco as you are looking at the map) can you walk all the way around that? I'm goin to stay at my Mums on Wednesday and that would be dead handy for a quick walk with HRH.
  6. I missed the rest of this, I will go have a look on Twitter and see how it goes Thankies!
  7. Look missus, what have I told you about not surfing down the stairs on the dinner tray? Glad you are back and still in one piece!
  8. for Nog I love that link - but am I wrong in actually liking the dining room set? :mask: Could you post and ask? I saw that episode a week or so ago and I was nearly screaming at the telly. My new HPCD fleece still hasn't arrived so I have sent an email requesting a 'status update' and was all posh RMF - The new menu is out at Wetherspoons/Lloyds bar today. OH has suggested I go down and try the noodles, but I don't want to drive and its raining...
  9. They never have size 5 in the sales You would have thought that seeing 5s are such a common shoe size, they would have made loads extra just to ensure that we got a bargain at the sales!
  10. Thats the one Thankyou. It always makes me a little as it reminds me of all my boys, but it also gives me strength too.
  11. It's different for everyone. When I lost Homer, I said no more. The Connor came along. When I lost Chester, I said no more, but Harvey and Scooby came along. When I lost Connor, I said no more but moved in with my OH's parents and 'adopted' Ellie. If a dog needs you then you will know. Don't feel guilty. When I lost Homer someone sent me a poem about a dog telling his owner than although he had to go, he wanted to leave his bed and bowl for another dog to enjoy as much as he had. I cannot for the life of me find the poem anywhere though - I think it gost lost in the move That poem stayed on my wall for years, and every time I looked at it I remembered my dogs who have gone to the Bridge, and knew that I would know when it would be time to help the next one.
  12. Morning all I have them in my tortillas with my fake cheese spread, or on my jacket potato. How easy are they to do? I did some mustard in a cricket tub but I would like to do loads of alfafa. Scooby did that to me yesterday Poor Nog Some people just don't seem to realise the other persons dog could be a bit creaky. Its just really rud e HRH went for hydro for the first time yesterday We went to Alison in Devizes. Fairly basic but she is lovely. Scooby now has a new best mate He wasn't too impressed with getting in - he walked up the ramp and then realised that we actually wanted him in the water, so Alison picked him up and plonked him in. He looked a bit miffed at first but after a few seconds kind of resignedly pootled about until he realised he could climb out over side But he did well. We are going back on Friday
  13. Afternoon all Has anyone ever grown their own sprouting sprouts? Not like green Sunday roast sprouts but alfafa and beany type sprouts. Matadors should have lots of little speary things stuck in them too Bloody idjits. I just can't see the sense in bullfighting. Marky comes back this evening He's been in Belgium for a few days to fo to Phasma - a big meeting on stick insects. I was supposed to go too but couldn't. Apparently he is bringing back loooads of new stick insects and also some scorpions
  14. He always lays with his butt sticking towards the fire, and when its been warm the past few days he will lay with his head and body in the shade with his butt sticking out
  15. Afternoon all. CT - please PM me if you need a chat with an unbiased stranger Its been a funny day so far. OH and his Dad have gone to Belgium. I was supposed to be going too but couldn't So I have been left with OH's mum and aunt (aunt has the beginnings of Alzehemiers (sp?)) And they don't like each other. I feel like I am sat in a war zone some of the time - they won't lower themselves to screaming at each other but there are plenty of snide remarks flying back and forth I am trying to escape by feeding a couple of hundred of the baby tarantulas but my FM is playing up, particularly my hands, so I have to keep coming in for a nbreak before I get bitten. Scooby hasn't been out for his run so he is sulking. I was going to take him out for a walk (onlead, much to his disgust) but the heavens just openened (even more disgust) so he will have to wait.
  16. It just seems that people with this attitude are becoming more and more common FM (Fibromyalgia) causes chronic pain and fatigue, memory loss, digestive problems, problems with co-ordination including musclular spasms and a host of other wonderful symptoms that I won't bore you with. FM can be developed at any time, but it is usually after an illness. I just developed it over a few years. People who are always on the go are apparently more likely to get it then those who are less active. I find it really frustrating - people seem to see the disability, not the person I am passionate about animals - my OH and I keep exotic invertebrates; we have both been on expeditions to find new species, he has found varies species of stick insect and has also had a species named after him. I have found a male of a species that only had the female described (it could be a new species but I don't think so - the type specimen is in either the Natural History Museum or the Museum of Vienna, we need to track it down to compare specimens). But back to the dogs - I find it frustrating. Not a lot else I can say really. I want to help but am unable - I try and do my bit from home but find people won't listen.
  17. I am annoyed. Actually, to say I am annoyed is putting it mildy. I am fecking fuming. I was sat in the pub the other day, and a bloke wandered in. Now he has two staffs - gorgeous dogs, only he roughhouses with them (not in a playing way)and frequently belts them. These two dogs dont always get on - they started fighting outside the pub and the bloke was kicking them to get them apart but as soon as they seperated he grabbed the dog who he thought was the aggressor and started punching the dog in the face and head. The dog turned round and attacked him, and got kicked and punched some more. The owner then wandered into the pub apologising for the noise but seemingly proud his dogs were behaving like this. There is another person I know who has a huge mastiff cross. This dog is totally out of control, but when it nips and barges the owners laugh and say "Oh isn't he naughty". Another person, who has a rottie x, lets his dog wander all over town off lead. This dog has learnt to stare at people to make them move out of his way. The dog has also bitten the owner. There is a girl near us who has a collie puppy - she saw the pup and wanted him as he has blue eyes, and blue is her favourite colour, after pink. She has never had a dog before and she really wanted a chihuahua but they are too expensive. The estate where I used to live, there were a gang of lads who always had a different staff each week - they kept on losing their dogs and 'couldn't be bothered' to go to the kennels to pick them up. So they just bought another one. So, how long are these dogs going to last with their owners? How long before there is a dog attack in my area? Why will people not bloody listen and realise that dogs are sentient beings, and not fashion accessories or a scale on which the size of you dick is measured against? These dogs feel happy, they feel sad, they feel pain. Yes they are just dogs. But they are just dogs! How can you explain to a dog that their owner no longer wants them, as they are too old/young/wrong colour/no longer interesting enough? That kills me every time I see it. Knowing that a dog knows its owner doesn't want it anymore is the worst feeling of despair. Do these people have no empathy towards their pets? Dogs are not just things. They live, breathe, dream about sex, take dumps, fart and eat just like the rest of us. I have a dream. I am asked by Discovery or the BBC to do a documentary on my most passionate subject. Dogs. I show the importance of socialisation and training. I show that staffs are 'nanny dogs'. I show what wonderful couch potatos greyhounds are. I show how much rescue dogs have to give. I show puppy farmers. I show backyard breeders. The most difficult shot is holding a dog whilst they are PTS because there is no room and they are unwanted. How the hell do you get through to people? When I was a kid (and I'm not that old) I used to walk my huge GSD on my own. There were few dog attacks, you never just wandered up to stroke a dog without asking first, people's dogs would play in the park nicely, there just wasn't the canine neurosis there seems to be today. Is this because we as a society are trying to humanise our dogs, trying to squash them into a hole in which they don't and can never fit? It bothers me so much - I lose sleep over this. I can speak to people and people will listen to me. However whether thay take it on board is another matter entirely. I have FM, I walk with a stick. I am disabled therefore I must be a bit special in the head too (OK I can be, I admit I have memory loss and fumble my words. I also have discalcula although thats nothing to do with my FM). I have my own pet sitting and walking business, but it takes up very little of my time as I have just started out so don't have a huge customer base. I have been trying to get in as a volunteer or a work placement somewhere for ages through the Jobcentre - no-one is interested because of my FM. I have contacted all the groups represented on here and other forums offering my services, again no-one is interested. I have been on the forums for nearly ten years, so its not like I am some newcomer rushing in - I know it, have seen it and done it, yet no-one wants me. I guess that put me on a par with the dogs I so deperately want to help? Feeling useless because I can do nothing, feeling uselss because of my FM, I have to think of something. But all I can think of are the dogs that are suffering through the ignorance of people.
  18. No however you did say that a rat shouldn't be fed to any other animal, but snakes have to eat too. I cannot see this being a problem as long as the animal is treated with care and respect. The PDF of the Animal Welfare Act 2006 is here. I think the relevant section is page 6, but the whole document is interesting reading.
  19. Thats quite spooky - was looking at Black Magics' link and the Devizes one come up, just as I was emailing them Marks Mum came in with their telephone number from a friend who does hydro with their GSDs Unfortunately the email doesn't work so I will have to ring them. Yes I am in Trowbridge - all the ones I have asked after for the moment have been 30-40 mins drive. Ashton Keynes is just over an hours drive away from me. Just rang the number and left a message on the aswerphone for the Devizes one...
  20. I got 100% on recognition and 70% on temporal memory Now if they had asked me to remember names I wouldn't have had a chance...
  21. Had aphonecall - next place on the list is £66.41 for a first consultation then £35.76 for every 30 minute session after, and they don't have proper drying facilities... Thankyou
  22. That is horrible - rodents less than 24 hours old don't have the receptors to feel the cold, so they just go straight to sleep and pass away, but any older than this and it causes a great deal of pain My snakes have as much of a right to life as any mouse. in the natural order of things, there are predators and prey. In the wild animals are being consumed all the time, however in captivity I will try my best that feeder animals do not suffer as much as their wild counterparts. You are actually right - nowhere does it state the act of feeding live vertebrates itself is illegal - on the Defra website it says - However, it is illegal to cause any animal pain and suffering. A mouse being eaten alive by a snake will no doubt experience pain and suffering. Because my mice I breed to feed my snakes, and I am sure most rescues would feel that there was a possibility I might breed the rats to feed the snakes too.
