  1. We use the Eurohike leads attached to our rucksack belts with a carabiner, or round the waist as Alex says. They are long leads though, and I made a handle for about half way down so we can pull it up short. I think I still have 1 (or even 2) of these leads still in their packaging if you wanted to do a swap / make a donation to a rescue?
  2. Thank you May ask for the gas credit balance back as it is so big!
  3. We moved to Atlantic a couple of years ago (from BG and LEB as was). We currently pay £81 a month for electricity, and £70 a month for gas (5 bed detached, though the 5th bedroom is a loft conversion). Once a year, just before Christmas, we get a 'loyalty' bonus of one months payments back (so £151 last year). For the last year or so we have been switching everything off standby / by switch that can be when not used (washing machine, tumble dryer, TV's etc), had thermostatic valves put on radiators, changed to an A rated tumble dryer and changed the front and back doors which were draughty. We've had our bills through today, both actual readings. We are nearly £80 in credit with electricity, and nearly £150 in credit with gas. So pleasantly surprised at the bills, but the bills say that they will carry the balance forward and not change our monthly payments. Don't understand
  4. Probably too late, and similar to the one Sherlock Bones posted God called your name so softly That only you could hear And no one heard the footsteps Of angels drawing near It broke our hearts to lose you But you did not go alone For part of us went with you The day God called you home Sorry for your loss
  5. Having also adopted an ex puppy farmed girl I agree too - I don't understand how anyone could give any trade to a business which promotes this evil business I'm afraid Daisy is indeed very cute- as are all pups -but I doubt her Mum and Dad are looking very cute any more, if the state of Smudge when we adopted her is anything to go by. Sorry, but if we can't get the message across to members of animal welfare sites , what hope do we have with the general public ?
  6. Although we both came from families that had dogs, we came to having dogs as our own family members 'late' as we both used to work long hours / work away etc. We did most of the socialising and travelling abroad we wanted to do then - there is only one place I would like to visit (NZ), but I wouldn't be too bothered if I didn't get there as I hate flying . It wasn't until I took a severance package that we adopted our dogs, and they come on holiday with us. I wouldn't dream of kennelling them as Boysie was very traumatised by his 4 months in kennels, and we only have to pull up outside (to drop stuff off) and he sits quivering in the back of the car. Having said that, due to the increasing no of numpty owners round here , who care little about what their dogs are up to and who they are annoying, walking them locally is a lot less enjoyable than it was.So I could see a time when we may well decide to be dogless again
  7. Hope you had a lovely birthday Alex :flowers:
  8. I homecheck mainly for an RSPCA branch but have the same 'standards' for anywhere I offer to home visit for. If I feel the home might not be suitable I would make it clear on my recommendations - regardless of who it's for. I have expressed reservations before and it has been taken forward and more discussions have taken place - some people have decided not to proceed and others have worked with the branch for a solution. Have you completed their homechecking course? Only ask as many people feel it's quite strict. If you have any reservations then tell the branch that you wouldn't recommend. The strength of the homing process for any rescue often relies on the quality of home visit and the people who do it. Of course you may be overruled - I was once for an adjacent branch where I couldn't recommend the home for the dog concerned , but the dog then bounced a few months later
  9. Were they called Glees? In a purple packet? Sweeter than Skittles IIRC
  10. That does sound like a lovely and 'make a difference' day. Luckily we don't have any coal eating doglets here - just poo eaters It's absolutely freezing here too -I have the fire on- so will join you in thinking about any dogs who may be in colder surroundings tonight.
  11. Sending more healing thoughts to Max and hoping you can get to the bottom of his problem soon Alex :GroupHug:

  21. Yes - it certainly wasn't me I did try to get the lovely view from the lounge and managed to get rooftops instead
  22. Anyone thinking of going to the Lake District this time of the year should really consider the possibility of their eyes being affronted with something like this, this or this But not this howling dog or this one who thinks they've smelt sheep as they were there last week and are now safely back in Essex
  23. Aww Olliepops Just pondering on the standing and staring Jules - Boysie did this a month or so ago and we really thought he was going senile - he also became very clingy and affectionate (not like him at all) - he had an ear infection, which I think made his balance go off . Did the vet look at his ears today? Hope he's better soon
