  1. Posy is doing very well but not had a single enquiry, bless her. She is doing great with her soft claws and no longer needs special food requirements, as we think her self trauma is stress-related.
  2. Posy is coming to Westways for rehoming as her owner is moving abroad due to work commitments. She is 8 years old, semi longhaired, black and white. She is speyed, fully vaccinated and microchipped. Post is affectionate and loves to be groomed and have her tummy tickled. She is playful and loves to chase string or ribbon. She likes to sleep under the covers of her owners bed and likes to sunbathe. Posy is used to outdoor access and likes to climb and hunt. She will toilet outdoors but is also happy to use a litter tray if confined indoors or due to bad weather. Posy suffers from suspected food allergies and regularly causes self trauma to her neck with her claws. Once Posy comes to us we will be further investigating the cause of this problem to try and get to the bottom of it but she has been on various treatments for a long period of time and up to now the only thing that seems to keep her most comfortable is to change her food regularly. Her scratching can be prevented with the use of Soft Claws, a safe and humane cap fitted over her hind claws to prevent her tearing her skin. These are required on her hindfeet only, particularly if she were to be allowed outdoor access where she would need the use of her front claws. Her neck area is scarred from previous episodes but she is calm and patient and will allow you to bathe and care for the area. Posy is used to teenagers and has lived with another cat. She is looking for a calm and stress free home with no children, preferably in a quiet or rural location with a dedicated owner who can manage her problems both physically and financially, since Posy will likely be more expensive than your average cat to feed with the potential of vets bills when she does have a flare up. We would prefer Posy to stay in the North and our rehoming contract and policy apply. For more information on Posy or to make an enquiry, please contact Emma Foxall at Westways 0191 2747910 oe [email protected]
  3. Hugs to Ellie. We do a lot of TPLO ops now and I just wanted to add that Ellie's post op xrays are perfect!
  4. Bob is still looking for a home, I have no idea why he's waited so long... surely there must be a good experienced home out there for a dog with a lot of energy *paws crossed*
  5. Very sadly, Cass has been euthanased after suffering a suspected spinal injury throwing herself around her kennel in distress. Run free poor poor girl... if only a home had come along things could have been so much different foer her - could this be moved to Rainbow Bridge section?
  6. These two girls belong to a contact of a friend... it is a horrifying situation. Thumbelina & Tinkerbell are 2 year old longcoated Chihuahua bitches, both fawn with black masks, Tinkerbell being slightly darker in colouring. They are both entire and Tink was due to whelp TODAY 15th Feb. They were stolen yesterday (14th Feb) from their garden in the Richton area of Blackburn They were in & out of the garden yesterday, back door open. One of the dogs was heard crying out and owner rushed to see what had happened to find the garden gate forced open and both dogs gone. Being Chihuahua they are bound to be terrified whatever their situation and of course this could be a matter of life & death for Tinkerbell. Please crosspost EVERYWHERE, email your contacts, make sure your dog wardens & vet surgeries are looking for these babies as they have likely been stolen to order because of their breed, especially if it was known that Tink was heavily pregnant by these heartless b*****d's. Their pictures/posters can be found here: http://www.doglost.co.uk/poster.asp?ID=12610 http://www.doglost.co.uk/poster.asp?ID=12611 Their mum, Ann, can be contacted on 07799273973

  8. The only cases in which we neuter younger than 5 months is in feral colonies TNR schemes.
  9. I am up to book 10 in Robert Jordan's Whhel of Time series - can't wait to get it finished so I can move on!
  10. I completely agree. I have seen a litter of Rottweilers, with one puppy in the litter very obviously NOT a Rottie. The breeders owned both dam & sire, but this one puppy looked remarkably like the neighbours longhaired red crossbreed!
  11. Cass is an 8 year old brindle Staffordshire Bull Terrier, in the care of the Newcastle branch of the RSPCA. Cass is very friendly with people and loves her walks. She is very affectionate and loving, with a tail that never stops wagging. She does not, however, get on well with other dogs (except her son who she was previously kenneled with) so does need to be an only dog. Since being in a kennel on her own, Cass has become increasingly stressed and anxious. She is making her paws and gums bleed on the bars of her kennel and is losing weight. She is recieving extra exercise, toys & interesting things to do like filled Kongs etc but what she really needs is to get out of her kennel into a suitable foster home or even better, with a permanent new family. Cass loves all people so can be rehomed with older sensible children or would suit an older person/couple who are still active. Cass is speyed, vaccinated & microchipped.
  12. Despite being dog of the month and recieving plenty of promotion, Bob is still looking for his forever home
  13. Bob the Great Dane X Greyhound is currently the longest stay resident of the RSPCA branch, constantly overlooked due to his size and boisterous nature. He is only 2 years of age and has spent almost half of this time in a kennel waiting for his forever home to come along. Bob is very active & lively, and loves people. He gets on well with most other dogs and has a fantastic personality. He is desperately seeking the right home, which would be a very active one without young children. All he needs is plenty of exercise and a bit of dedication towards ongoing training. Bob is castrated, microchipped and vaccinated. Bob can travel for the right home providing homechecks & transport can be arranged. Please contact me for more info [email protected]
  14. This is Tramp, who was peeled off of the bathroom floor of an empty house on Boxing Day 2003 very close to death and brought to us. On further investigation from his tattoo, he was only 8 months old at the time of this photo with me holding him. (posted as link as may be disturbing to some) http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g77/ruffdogs/DayOne.jpg He weighed just a very shocking 8kg, was severely scalded by urine & faeces and his mouth was so dry his lips had to be painfully peeled from his rotten teeth. When he was found his finder actually thought he was already dead. He only just managed to stand for the couple of minutes it took to take the photo, he otherwise had to be carried or lifted on a stretcher. He could not walk for 2.5 weeks, and it took 6 weeks of intensive care before he was strong enough to leave us. This is him 3 weeks after he was found, still emaciated but clean and happier and urine burns healing well. http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g77/ruff...Tramp170104.jpg Nobody was prosecuted for the state of Tramp, despite the fact that the man who owned the property admitted knowing Tramp was inside, but denied having anything else to do with him. And this is him another 4 weeks later, the day he left us for his new home.
  15. I got my "Cuddle Me" tag and we LOVE it - it's so cute!!! Still waiting on my banana bark frame.
