  1. Following on from the Tony Blair thread I thought I would start a thread on class. Do you put yourself into a class? And how would you decide on your class? I don't walk around wearing a badge, or judging people on their class, but if asked I tell people that I am working class, and very proud to be as my parents worked hard and saved for everything we have, and Ben and I have tried to do the same I always wonder about working class vs middle class, I mean, both have to 'work' to live, so what's the difference as it is not all down to financial status is it? I am currently a student who works p/t in a supermarket and lives in a housing association property, but I remember reading that when I become a teacher I will be deemed middle class as I will be a professional - somewhat strange to me
  2. Why do you think that working class people think that they are better than others? Does that imply that when you meet people you immediately judge their class and then their views are attributed to them being 'arrogant'? Me neither. Like Lesley said, there are more important things in life than as to what class you aspire to be in. I remeber a discussion instigated by a friend when we were on a field trip a few weeks ago, maybe it was the wine talking, but she was so adamant in her insistance that her parents were working class BUT had bought her and her siblings up to be mddle class, she got quite stroppy in asserting that she was middle class whereas the rest of us all said we were working class, and didn't really care tbh. People like that make my head
  3. I am sorry, but I feel that you have attempted to take what I have said and turn it completely on it's head. At no point did *I* mention class, it was *you* that assumed that is what I meant, again, *your* assumption which I believe is mistaken. At no point did I say that any class of person did not deserve respect for their views. I am at a loss as to why you are so intent on turning this into a class debate? I am off to bed, I hope to come back to this with a clear head tomorrow perhaps. I would advise you also to look back at what you have written Lesley and see where I have been upset at your (apparent) deliberate attempt to take my post somewhere it was not aimed at going.
  4. There I go again? Sorry, but I really think you are deliberately using antagonising language. You took my post not only out of context, but seemed to put two and two together and came up with 21 You stated: I have just said that I am proud to be working class, and I am definately not a 'no hoper' (I hope ), YOU assumed that is what I meant, what is it they say about assuming making an ass out of you or something along those lines? MY post was not talking about monetary aspirations, it was talking about MY opinion that one should vote for the party that best represents their needs/aspirations/opinions etc, which you have attempted to turn into a class debate. Perhaps it was my fault for going off topic, hence my pointing that out before I wrote my piece I was always taught to look passed class, yet I know my father worked in a factory all his life so that I and my brother could have a university education, hence ME feeling insulted that you would insinuate that I thought working class = no hoper, I do not appreciate you 'putting words in my mouth' thank you!
  5. Really don't want to drag contro stuff in here, but I am really p1ssed off with being taken totally out of turn!!
  6. Um, did you read my post properly just to clarify, I do not see how anyone 'working class' could vote for a party who does not have their values at heart! I am by NO MEANS a snob! Working class and proud love No matter how well I am doing in monetary terms, I highly doubt that I would ever "aspire" to vote Tory!!! Edit: I am seething that my post could be taken so wrongly!!!!
  7. I thought a Conservative was defined as getting someone else to pull their bootstraps up
  8. I agree Laura, he made it so much easier for Blair to step in and win the '97 election. Elaine, I think we had an easy choice - support an illegalwar for regime change based on very poor 'intelligence' or not. ETA: Off topic, but just wondered if the tory voters own large estates (land, not car, lol) or businesses or have salaries over the six figure mark.....I seriously do not understand why any working class folk could vote tory - sorry.
  9. Wot they said, although I don't have a small business, I don't have children, I am a student who also works. We are apparently too rich for tax credits, yet struggle to make ends meet sometimes
  10. Glad she got her cummupence (sp?), feel sorry for your male colleague hearing her slag his wife off though
  11. Raven has Sandman in her pedigree too Raven's Pedigree
  12. Raven only ever sits when she is very very nervous, it is not comfortable for her and her bum is never actually on the floor
  13. Glad both dogs are home and safe Shocking police behaviour, their high profile raids of late appear to be unplanned and disorganised
  14. I think it would be a bit naieve to say that it is purely because this girl had overprotective parents that her life fell into difficulty. I can produce annecdotle evidence of a friend whose parents were open and less restirctive than my own and she was thrown out at 16, abortion at 18 and now only has GCSEs and is in a low paid job, whereas another friend whose parents were very strict has a degree from UCL and has just come back from travelling around the world for a year all paid for by her own savings from temping for a year after uni. I think the little girl in the Algarve's parents were extremely irresponsible, I just hope she is found safe and well
  15.  Dear Auntie Melps, I have another "friend" who after reading your words of wisdom has now wet herself, what would you suggest for future "accidents" Yours, Wet () of Worcestershire
  16. Dear Aunty Melps, I have a "friend" who keeps having romantic (not erotic!!) dreams about a bloke at work whom she is friends with, this are rather unsettling dreams as she didn't see him in this light until these dreams began - what should she do Baffled of Worcestershire
  17. You are hugely motivated, but solely for world domination which leads to lots of wars and sleepless nights and isn't much fun so you decide it's better to be unmotivated and go back to wishing you weren't motivated to do anything I wish I knew what to with my life
  18. Your legs grow lovely and long, but you are now so tall you keep bumping your head on door frames and into tree branches. I wish I had more motivation
  19. Aw, congratulations That dog bed is indeed mahassivvvee!! What's the approx measuremets Kathy?
  20. Am currently finding some people's pettiness rather amusing
  21. Fank you Claz I am seriously considering this, you're right, so sick of the worrying about tampons in my bag/pockets etc and Ben will be glad only having to the chocolate run, instead of the chocolate and need tampons NOW run! lol Last question, how do you know how short to cut the stem? Does it tell you how much to leave etc with the cup?
  22. Serious question, are they easy to spill when taking out? And has anyone noticed anymore leakage compard to tampons? Am seriously considering one although, I'm not sure I will ever be this convinced
  23. You are such a good typist that you volunteer to type each and every newspaper the Times distributes until your hands fall off I wish I have a fantastic birthday day out on Saturday
