Would be greatfull for any ideas
Guest patch
What about feeding her using a buster ball so she doesnt notice its less food and has to move around a bit while she eats ?
Guest chilover
What type of dog fod are you feeding Mitzi? I have a friend who found the BARF diet worked wonders with her overweight Labrador. Just a thought, not sure if it would be suitable for your gir? Another friend said NatureDiet, the light variety, she added extra veggies was very good for her older dog.
eve
Has she specifically been blood tested for hypothyroid? Stanley was very overweight last year and no amount of diets, even very specialised ones, helped. He also wasn't keen on long walks and got tired and puffed out after only short bursts of playing. Someone recommended that we get his thyroid checked and we found out he has hypothyroid. Once they got the medication sorted, combined with diet, he's gradually losing all the weight and has a lot more energy!
nicky H
We were thiking it was her thyroid, but there are no other symptoms, the vet wants us to keep her on a diet for a while and see if she shifts the weight, if it doesnt happen then he is going to take bloods and check her thyroid, she goes back to be weighed in 2 weeks so if she hasnt lost any by then, then they will take some blood. Chilover she is on Arden grange, i dont want to feed barf thats just my preferance, i dont think boxers should be fed barf, but it works for others, just not me. We have a huge treat ball patch, but she wont even use that, she gets fed up when the food doesnt come out all at once so just leaves it, i could try giving her a handfull at a time slowly, or scattering her food around though? she has carrots and veg too for treats because ive had to cut All her treats out now and i dont like giving them to joey and not her, but i think she is starting to realise that joeys treats are nicer than hers
gooster
Could you not try bulking her meals up with mashed veggies (carrot, apple, brocolli etc) and give her less dried stuff. That way she still feels full but is getting less calories

cycas
are the ok to have all types of veg?she loves boiled carrots and broccoli so will start adding alot of that and cutting down the dry Onions and leeks are supposed to be not a good idea, but pretty much everything else is OK. I find sweetcorn and peas tend to just go straight through though.
Paula
If she doesn't run about have you thought about doing extra road walking, I have found that doing an hour a week has helped me and Dudley lose weight.
nicky H
we are doing alot more walking, we do 5 laps round the park twice a day, so she has to do it too, ive been bulking her food up with veg now, lots of carrots, broccoli, green beans and cabbage she has to go back to be weighed in a week, so fingers crossed she has lost something, if not they will take bloods Edited March 3, 2006 by nicky H
Paula
I would cut out the root vegtables as this are packed full of carbs which wont help with her slimming regime.
