maddogwoman
just out of curiosity my vet recomends a spaying after a first season my dog had hers at about 7 months, so if your going to spay before the season when is the earliest it can be done. also when is the earliest a dog can be castrated thanks
Doghouse
Not sure about castration but our GSD was speyed at just over 5 months old as our Vets advised us to do it before her 1st season.
lucyandmeg
It depends very much on the size of the dog and the vets preference. Some vets are quite happy to spay small bitches at 6 months, but most tend to wait until the larger bitches and dogs are older as neutering early is thought to cause growth problems and urinary incontinence in some of the larger breeds. If a bitch is bein g spayed after her first season it needs to be 3 months from the end of the season so that it is mid way between the two seasons. Some vets like to castrate dogs from about 8 months to a year upwards, particularly with the larger breeds.
Karen
My current two labs were both spayed at 6 months old, before their first season. Neither have had growth or urinary incontinence problems.
Jacobean
It depends on the breed of dog as well.
AmandaUK
I'm sure some rescues in the Staes neuter very young puppies and kittens and literally a couple/few months old. Generally it is about 5 months here though.
