  1. Ah. I get you know. I know some people have a diagnosed condition called Seasonally Affected Disorder, therefore their moods are directly linked to light. But whereas UV rays do give all of us a natural 'happiness vitamin', if you like, (or the Vitamin D, i think?), that isn't to say the seasonal removal of said 'happiness vitamin' means we then all get 'sadness' It doesnt affect me that way. I have suffered depression, which was irrespective to seasons and light, but to do with personal circumstance. But the long dark nights do bug me, as i find them inconvenient and pointless. I love daylight 24/7, as it gives me more energy, which i think is the more the point of the situation, as opposed to happiness. I dont even like the daylight in the UK in the Summer, as its too muted and dull, due to pollution and light pollution. One of the startling differences i noted in DK and NZ was how bright twas during the day. I would love light 24/7, as I can sleep regardless, would have more energy, spend more time awake and alert and be a higher achiever. Alaska here i come! If Xmas stresses you out, i would say January gives you joy! If you invest high purpose into Xmas, then once it's gone, you would feel a void in January. But the same could be said of any big event throughout the year. I enjoy the various annual celebrations, but I'm one of these people that doesn't put very much emotional investment into them, as i dont really see the big deal/meaning with them the first place, so wont get that big high before and during and big low afterward. Dec 31 to Jan 1 has never made a blind bit of difference to me. New Years Eve, now that would make the nation feel 'depressed', what with hangovers the first week of January! The way you worded it before, i thought you literally meant that everyone is made depressed by January/lack of light, and it's natural for us all to be so. Which i figured odd and defeatist. Especially as the people i know are the same now as they are any other time of year, including those with depressed personalities. Thanks for clarifying. I understand you to just mean lack of light is physiological, and that we all might get the odd blue days after Xmas? And you dont mean its natural for us all to suffer from 'Depression', but we are all 'more likely' to get days where we feel 'depressed' in January? BTW: eat nothing but figs! One of the best Serontonin fuelled foods going. Apparently worked well for Prince Guatama Sidarata, and look what he turned into!
  2. i worked everything out from scratch. just by being nosey and pressing buttons
  3. As someone whom works at a rescue centre, i would say that the owners relinquishing to the Dogs Trust at this stage is a blessing in disguise. Working in rescue the last decade i have noticed the level of dogs dumped around and just after Xmas has reduced. Like drink driving, i think "the dog is for life not for xmas" public awareness campaign had an impact upon people. Meaning they are a bit cleverer now...they avoid the awkward social moment of turning up at rescues in January, and wait until about Spring now. Our numbers grew year by year this period. This is timed with the onset of adolescence when pup first starts developing mature independant behaviour patterns, and before the owner has to worry about finding boarding kennels for the summer holidays. This 10 week old is very lucky. He is still in his critical period with some people that will take care of his socialisation needs, and will no doubt get a good start in life behaviour wise, instead of turning into the raucous hoolie he most likely would have been if he had been handed in to rescue later, making him that bit harder and longer to rehome. My bet: he will be reserved by Monday, espesh after this media campaign! The owners dont deserve any points for not doing their homework, but at least claw some back for recognising the problem quickly and dealing with it, unlike most people that let it get out of control, then dump the problem they create onto someone else.

  9. I was in PC World once. The guy in front of me was returning a stereo as the radio kept cutting out. He wanted a refund. The cashier was trying all sorts of bullshit that it had to go to an engineer to determine if there was a fault, and if it can be fixed, before she can allow a replacement. But that wasnt going to be that day, as the engineer wasnt due until next Wednesday, and then it would take a week! Understandably, the customer was irate. He didnt want to wait that long. He didnt want a replacement from PC world. He wanted his money back so he could go elsewhere. She wasnt budging with her BS...it had to be checked by an engineer, bla bla bla. This went on a while and i was sick of waiting. I cut in and very loudly said, "Ive got an idea. He says the radio just cuts out. Have you got a plug back there"? "Yes", she replied. "Then you dont need an engineer, just plug it in now and see if the radio works"! LOL. Her face dropped big time. I had put her right on the spot in front of the whole queue - she had to do it! PC World and Halfords - idiots!
