  1. A HUGE thank you to everyone that has purchased products from Vet UK via The Beastly Beasts website, and/or done any online shopping with us and easyfundraising, and/or purchased one of Tracey's tassels, and/or bought one of Laney's Greyt Sweaters, and/or a Beastly Beast sticker or badge. The Beastly Beasts get a bit money from each of these and together it really adds up, allowing us to make donations to greyhound rescues. We recently received a cheque for £20.20 from Vet UK, we'll be getting one from easyfundraising for £53.73 in the next few days, Laney recently sent us £24 and every time I see Tracey (leicslass on the White Lodge forum) she puts money in my hands!! ;D. Last year we were able to make donations of £131.16. Already this year - and it's not quite the end of Jan - we'll be able to make a donation of almost that. That we can do this is down to your generosity - so on behalf of all the hounds that this helps - thank you very much. We have some new ideas for 2008 (which is why we've been a bit quiet of late - putting them together), which we hope will raise even more for hounds that need help. More about those on The Beastly Beasts website soon. ------------------------------------------- If you haven't got a clue what I'm on about, here's the quick version (more info is on The Beastly Beasts website) Vet UK is an online veterinary supplier. It's all branded product, usually much cheaper than the vet, P&P is free, and invariably the bits arrive the next day. And we get 5% of every order you place via The Beastly Beasts website. easyfundraising is a portal for loads of shops - just about everyone from the AA to Zurich is there, so whether it's the latest CD from your fave band or car insurance, holiday, or - well - anything really, there's bound to be someone that sells it. Register with easyfundraising and pick The Beastly Beasts as the cause you would like to support, then each time you shop go the easyfundraising site first and we'll get commission on everything you buy. You shop with the retailer - Amazon, Tesco, play.com, etc., as normal, and there are often money saving offers at easyfundraing, making it even cheaper. Greyt Sweaters are - as the name suggests - sweaters for greyhounds - OK, and whippets, and great dane X's (Rosie). All The Beastly Beasts have one and they look terrific; everyhound should have one. Laney (the lady that makes them) gives us a donation from each one she makes. Tracey's tassels look fantastic; all The Beastly Beasts look great wearing theirs. Tracey kindly donates a pound from each one she sells. Everything we raise goes to greyhound rescues.
  2. Congratulations to you and Sol - was there every really any doubt?? And thanks to everyone that's commented on the regularity thing. Good idea Alison about Gill and me doing a joint application, and perhaps some kind of "job share" might be the way to go; I guess a lot depends on where you are visiting and what their needs/requirements are. I think we need, as you rightly said, to just go for it.
  3. A very late, but meant just as much Happy Gotcha Day to Wing Commander Mortimer from The Beastly Beasts. Just as well you fostered him Sarah as I had my eye on him to come here (we had Shaggy as the foster at the time), and I'm sure I would have failed too
  4. I've been thinking about one or more of The Beasts becoming PAT dogs. But ..... What commitment is needed once approved? Is it down to the place you go or are there definite requirements - eg once a week? Reason for asking is that my job means my schedule is totally at the mercy of customers, so I can't guarantee I'll be around at a given time on a given day.
  5. As Sam said, if you order via The Beastly Beasts (this is the link to our page - then click the Vet UK logo) the commission we get goes to sighthound rescues. Last year we raised over a £100 which went to Gap and Tailends and ???? (we are about to do another donation). If anyone wants to set up their own affiliate link with Vet UK it would be brilliant if you do it via The Beastly Beasts or Dogstar as that way we get a referral commission and you still get your full 5%. Thanks, Chris
  6. He had a good start And just to say that Troy has written about the day for BeastBlog with pics of all the hounds.
  7. The Beastly Beasts and friends were at Northampton Pets at Home today doing a Meet and Greet for Greyhound Gap. The Stand We had lots of helpers and had a total of 10 dogs were there during the day. A HUGE thank you to our helpers who were: Morning Shift: Jayne (a friend of ours) Jessica, Charlotte and Tom (Jayne's children) Marion (some of you will know her as ChickenTikka on other forums) Ann and Norman with Josie Afternoon Shift: Sam and Mark Squirrel with Noah All Day Shift: Wanda with the very lovely Joey (the only Gap dog ) Marion and Tom with Kai and Jack And although they are our lot, I want to thank Kai, Monty, Jack, Troy, Lucy, Mack and Rosie - The Beastly Beasts. The Gap gods were really kind to us today and the weather was really mild. We had a steady stream of people all day and there was hardly a moment when the hounds weren't being hugged or stroked - but they coped As always, all the dogs were just brilliant. Their behaviour was impeccable and they were the real stars of the day. Wanda with Joey, Gill with Kai, and Mark with Noah, Lucy and Jack It started getting dark about 4 and we thought perhaps it was time to call it a day, but there were still loads of people coming to see the dogs so we hung on for a bit. Then just before 4:30 it started to rain - we took the hint Sooo - how much money did we raise? Well, all of the hounds that were there today deserve a very special big hug because each of them worked really hard - they were on their feet all day - and each one of them raised £70 for Gap - a total of £700. So again, thank you so much to everyone that came along and helped to get such a great result, and to the people of Northampton for being so generous. Chris
  8. All The Beasts love bananas - luckily they like the really ripe ones which I hate.
  9. The Beastly Beasts say NO to lumps for you and Snatch
  10. Thinking of you at this sad time. Run free Amber
  11. A belated but heartfelt Happy Birthday to Bumpy from The Beastly Beasts
  12. Three years ago today an extremely shy and spooky black greyhound was bought to our house for the homecheck. We passed and Monty was left with us bringing the number of hounds at home back up to two - little did we know then what was going to happen. Monty is nowhere near as shy as he once was, though unless you've seen him at home or on his hols at Swallows Dance you haven't seen the real Monty. Monty has been in the wars during the last year on and off - in April we did our first blood doning and that led to finding out about his raised ALT levels followed by weeks of treatment and repeat blood tests - one of which did have me worried. But eventually we got the all clear. And more recently of course is the saga of his broken leg. But Monty has never been anything but a happy hound with a mischievous glint in his eye; he - like so many greyhounds - just takes what ever life throws his way. This is number 3; I hope there are many more home-coming days to go with Monty. Monty aka Dennis the Menace
  13. I'd book an appoinment at the opticians for her 'coz her eyesight is obviously extremely poor. (Note to self: Never upset Grandma Squiggs )
  14. Newbies at Beast Barracks this year are (in order of arrival): Lucy - the small Beastly Babe ClazUK probably knows more about her story: this is what we know. Ex-racer from Ireland. Found her way to White Lodge, got adopted with Hooch by a couple who couldn't decide which to have so took both, couple stopped being a couple and Lucy and Hooch went back to WL. Both came to us as fosters in April. In July Hooch went to live with Sandra and Matt in Shepshed (but comes back for the odd holiday) and Lucy decided to stay. Mack - the last WL greyhound Again ClazUK probably knows more about him, but we do know he lived in Wales after retiring. Wasn't wanted any more but found his way to WL and then to Gandma Squiggs as a bag of bones. She did such a good job of nursing back to health he took her for a walk through a hedge to try and get to a cat - he is keen!! He came to stay with us at the end of July and seems to have got stuck; he is supposed to be a foster What ever he is supposed to be, he is stunningly handsome and very loving. Rosie - the big Beastly Babe Rosie was in a PTS situation. Luckily for her a couple of lovely ladies reckoned she deserved another chance, and her owner (I believe) didn't want her to be PTS if another solution could be found. Luckily for me one of the lovely ladies aksed if I'd be prepared to give her the other chance; what do you say? So here she is and she has taken the chance she was given.
  15. Thank you to everyone that's asked about Monty and wished him well. This is a quick update having had his first check-up X-ray last Friday. He's doing as well as could possiby be expected given the severity of the injury - that's a quote from Mr. Onyett the genius/saint/vet that fixed Monty's leg. The X-ray showed the bone is starting to grow but it will be some time yet - at least another six weeks - before it's to the point Monty can go for a good run. Monty has posted his story and some pics on BeastBlog (the pics are mainly X-rays, so not too bad - honest ) Monty came with ust on the White Lodge walk on Sunday - a gentle stroll round Melton Country Park. He enjoyed himself, but the poor lad was pretty tired at the end of it; it was the longest walk he's been on since his accident. We go back to the vet in another six weeks for more X-rays which hopefully will show significant bone growth; if so perhaps the regime of limited exercise can be lifted to some extent.
  16. Great thread. Here's The Beastly Beasts - wearing their Laney Greyt Sweaters today From left to right: Kai - lurcher - been here nearly four and half years and we think heading for six years old in Jan Monty - our first greyhound - coming up for three years here in a few weeks and is about four and a half Jack - our first failed foster greyhound - will have been with us three years in March and is at least eight years old Troy - greyhound - after four homes in quick succession and nearly two years in kennels he's been here for just over two years and was eight in September Lucy - our latest failed foster greyhound - been with us since the end of April and is another eight year old Rosie - greyhound X great dane - been here three months and is about five and half years old Hooch - greyhound - OK, not really one of ours (he is an ex-foster) Hooch was here on his hols for a couple of weeks Mack - greyhound - been with us since July and is about six and a half years old Glad Mimi is safe now.
  17. Happy Gotcha Day Sol from all The Beastly Beasts - 'specially your doppleginga mate Kai. No need to ask if you if you had a nice day 'coz we bet your mum made sure it was well special. :partytime:
  18. Sorry it's bad news. I think others have given some good advice - give it a few days then go back and talk to the vet with someone else as well. What ever you do it will be done for the right reasons and Tasha will know that's true.
  19. A big thank you to everyone that has used Vet UK via The Beastly Beasts website. It's a year since we began our partnership with Vet UK and in that time you have raised £94.25 for hounds that help. To date we have made donations to Greyhound Gap and Tailends, and we are due another payout soon, so we'll be able to send some more money out. It is not possible without you, so thank you once again. And in the next year, with your help, we can raise even more money to help hounds. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ PS Don't forget to use our magic link or we don't get the commission. PPS If you have used Vet UK from our site and think it's a great idea, why not tell friends and family about it and raise even more money for the hounds? PPPS If you're not sure what I'm on about there are more details here.

  22. Now you can raise funds for hounds that need help - simply by shopping online! The Beastly Beasts have joined an organisation called easyfundraising, a shopping directory that features many of the UK's top online stores, including Amazon, NEXT, Debenhams, John Lewis, Toys’R’Us, HMV and many more. You will need to register with easyfundraising - it's free - and choose The Beastly Beasts as the organisation you want to support. Then just by going via The Beastly Beasts page on the easyfundraising site we will receive a donation when you shop - up to 15% in some cases. And of course 100% of the money raised goes to help hounds. And even better, The Dogstar Foundation will get commission on our earnings too, so you help two lots of hounds in one go. For more information about The Beastly Beasts on easyfundraising click here. Thank you for your support.
  23. Hope things are going OK for Snatch
  24. Happy Birthdays and Gotcha Days to The Rabble from The Beastly Beasts :partytime:
