Our solid fuel Rayburn in the kitchen has a twin wall flue that goes up through the roof, because of no chimney.
A good stove should go all night and be able to be opened up in the morning and more fuel added to get it going. If you are lucky enough to be able to get peat blocks, they can smoulder for days and give off a lovely smell.
Clearance around the stove is the issue, can't remember the regs.
Ours are form a local supplier who imports from eastern europe, so much cheaper, but I've had a Trolla, MOrso, charnwood etc, really cheap one like from machine mart, just burn through though.
I don't make toast, but do have a rack to put the teapot on and have put spuds wrapped in foil in the embers, lovely.
