  1. This is my thinking ... he is 14 years old and was diagnosed with arthritus at 3 years old so I am very glad to have him still with me as I though he would of had to be helped over the bridge at a much younger age because of his legs. As it is I am glad to say that although he is a doddery old man and he can only make a 10 - 15 min walk before he has to lie down he is very content and can get around the house just fine (with the exception of stairs). I will be keeping a close eye on him for any side effects but I feel it is worth trying as we have used other medicines over the years that have in time stopped being effective. Midge being pain free in his twilight years is all that is important. Thank you again for the answers, they are a great help
  2. Thank you for your replys. Midge has been on meds since he was about 3 for arthritus (mainly only during the winter for a good number of years) and we started with metacam and used that for a good 6 or 7 years but as his arthritus has got worse it stopped working so we moved onto Previcox ... now that has stopped working so we get to try something new again tee hee I don't know if it is my imagination (prob is) but he seems not so stiff this morning after his cartrophen injection yesterday ... still stiff but not as stiff.
  3. I took my old arthritic boy to the vet today to get some more tablets for him and as the Previcox tablets weren't working anymore I have been given PLT and he has been started on Cartrophen injections (his legs have got weaker and his back legs are starting to weaken aswell). I was just wondering if anyone had used either of these treatments and how they got on with them ??

    Dog Strollers

I am looking for a stroller for my 14 year old, 14.7kg, arthritic old boy so that he doesn't have to be left at home as much when we head out for walks. 99.9% of the ones I have found have been for small dogs under 13kg and the one I have found for bigger dogs is 99 pounds which is a bit too much for me at the moment so does anyone know where there are any bargains for sale ?? I am keeping an eye out in my local paper for anyone selling human prams but no luck so far.
  9. Ooh, that sounds good to me ... it is closer to me aswell so mabe I won't feel the need to turn up an hour and a half before anyone else this time

It was really nice to meet you all .. me and Poppy really enjoyed our walk and we will be keeping our eyes open for more that are close enough for us to come to I had a camera in my pocket aswell but my hands were just too cold to get it out and as there were a few people with cameras I wasn't too worried. Thank you again Kelly and Poppy

    Blind Dates

Yes .. last week ... and although he was a very nice chap it was a bit like having coffee with my dad ... be careful with who gets to pick your blind date
  13. It has been suggested on another forum that it could possibly be heartburn ?? I would really like to be able to work out what it is just for peace of mind really.
  14. We are not alone then ... she looks very upset while it is going on and get a bit scared by it. Is there anyway to stop it that you know of cos it goes on for hours !
  15. I am going to try to attach a video (never done it before so this could go very wrong and I may need help) Do we think these are hiccupps ?? Poppy has been having these funny turns since I got her as a pup and they don't seem to do any harm but they can go on for hours ... this video was taken at 10 this morning and she is still doing it although more randomly now. I took her to the vets the first few times she did it but I didn't have a video and my description was obv rubbish because they insisted it must be kennel cough and wouldn't listen when I was trying to tell them she wasn't retching which is what it sounded like when I was trying to explain it so we were sent packing with antibiotics. I am just curious ... I thought it was like reverse sneezing when I first heard of it but since seeing videos of reverse sneezing hers is nothing like it.
  16. I will take a look at the sites and I am sure I will find the ideal place. Thank you

  22. I am looking to pick your brains ...... I am planning on going away for a week at the end of 2009 to Exmoor (I do love exmoor) but I was wanting to get away with the dog (Midge the old boy will be staying at home with his granny so it will just be me and Poppy) for a long weekend earlier in the year but I was wandering if anyone has anywhere that they would reccomend to go ?? I would be looking for a cheap B&B (I have a tent but I am a bit of a fair weather camper :-) ) and somewhere gorgeous to walk that I can't get lost too easily :-) Any ideas ??

    Changing Names

When I got Midge 10 years ago I loved his name so I decided to keep it and I have not regretted it at all. I got Poppy 3 years ago and she was called Tilly ... I just didn't like the name and I certainly didn't like the horrible so and so's that gave her the name so it had to go .. Poppy was deff not my choice as I am not too keen on it still but she chose it .. the only thing she came back to was 'puppy puppy puppy' (show me a puppy who doesn't come back to that) so we needed a name that sounded like puppy so Poppy was born !! She was going to be called Magic
  24. oooh, thank you, I have just seen this thread. I have had a lovley birthday walking the dogs and chilling out ... only downside is that I turned 30 arrrgggghhhhhhhh
