  1. Hope your mum is feeling better and can come home today I know how scary it is to see your mum scared and vulnerable, so for you.
  2. Just a little update Took Billy to the new vets today and they had his full history already Was very impressed with both vets for that. New vet was lovely, definately no frills, but obviously a good vet and she was great with Bill. Billy was quite funny - he's pretty good at the vets and was quite enjoying his outing, getting fussed etc. He was very interested when vet opened the fridge and had a good sniff of the syringe and needle whilst in their packets. All was fine until vet mixed the 2 vials, when it dawned on him what was happening - you could see him thinking 'oh bu**er Bless him! Made us both laugh Hoping this could work really well.
  3. Thanks folks Seems like the 2 vet thing is the way to go! Billy does have an exisiting eye problem which flares up from time to time and existing vets have his history and know him so I'd take him back there for anyeye probs or anything else, but vax, wormers etc from new vets seems like a plan. With vax, new vets asked specifically about which Billy needed, and this is quote for full vax as this is what Billy is due. Existing vets charge the same irrespective of which vax given
  4. Wondered if anybody had any thoughts. My vet is pretty expensive, but really good, close by and have been fab treating Bill's injuries and illnesses! However feel that the over £20 more they wanted for doing his booster versus friends vets was a bit much so will be taking Bill to new vets for booster. I'd be much happier taking him to existing vets in emergency - it's closer, has better facilities and do 'no expense spared' treatment as opposed to friends vets which is more budget orientated. Is it ok to use 2 vets like this? Does anybody else do this? Any problems? Thanks
  5. Just caught up with this and am so glad Billy is doing ok now When my Billy lurcher had major surgery to his leg he was off his food for about 2 days afterwards until he was tempted by being hand fed lamb stew Lots of good thoughts for a speedy and full recovery Poor lad though. Def complain to RCVS, emergency vet and also write to the practice manager at your vets and outline problems so they have it formally.
  6. Happy New Year all Hope there aren't too many sore heads this morning I hope so! I feel it's going to be good too. I've had a rotten last few years but can see 2010 being the best for a while. I hope everyone has a good year, but especially those who've had a rought time of late.
  7. Hope poorly dogs and people are feeling better soon Glad the new flat is nice Cheryl I was supposed to travel down to yorkshire today for christmas but it appears that rather a lot of snow has fallen overnight and roads are closed, so that's not happening!! Hoping it clears up and is ok to travel tomorrow! Snow however is very pretty, but a load just slid off neighbours roof in true movie style!
  8. They came from someone on Lurcher Link but I'm not sure she's making them anymore. However similar stuff from here and hey also dontae some of profits to lurcher rescue Finn's is a bit 'special' He also has an equafleece for going out in public but this is somewhat negated by me posting pics of him in it on the internet!! Bill is a bit like Mollydog and did take a while to get used to it but really appreciates it now - especially last night when he was tucked up in it under a blanket! Smudge, Morse, Sophie and Sky look very cosy in their jumper but Sophie's new jumper is gorgeous
  9. So very sorry Thinking of you and the boys
  10. Oh my goodness, Az looks wonderful in his - and a bit like Bing Crosby!! Louie looks fab in his jumper - very smart and good colours for him too! Here's Billy looking unimpressed in his smart and taseful jumper and Finn in his slightly less subtle version
  11. for you and millymerle Wish I could say more, but there really isn't anything other than letting you know I'm thinking of you both
  12. I managed to embarrass my parents rather spectacularly aged about 5 in a restaurant Apparently, in that piercing voice small children have which manages to but through any other conversation, I announced “I know what periods are†Cue red faces and a general hush in the restaurant, followed by a sigh of relief when I added “there are sunny periods, rainy periods...â€
  13. Sir H is so handsome Glad Wispa is feeling better Was lovely to see pics of her (a bit ago I know!) Hope Missy is feeling better too - Pic of her staring at the penguin was and Been at agility today and Billy and another dog had a set too Billy went to see other dog who he knows well and walks with at least oncw a week, but went in with a bit too strong body language, other dog took huge exception and went for him Billy was on lead but other dog wasn't so had a job separating them. Fortunately Billy was fine and not particularly bothered! Cross with myself as I know this other dog is very unpredictable and a bit of a b*gger, but thought they were fine together , and let Billy approach him. I also think I've missed his gotcha day - very bad mum!!
  14. Fantastic - So proud to have played a teeny tiny part in this, but even more impressed by all the work you and your team have done in Sri Lanka. Amazing!!
  15. hello Not really been posting, but have been lurking and thinking of erveryone, especially Suzanna and her hubby, Jazz and her knee and Alex and Milly So glad you've got a new job Michelle Also glad that Marion, Ruby and the boys have remained unflooded Have been busy with work, but managed to squeeze in some agility time - Finn is doing so well and loving it! There was a photographer at the show the other weekend who took this lovely pic of him finishing a cracking run for which we got a 6th - not bad out of 150+ dogs and on a tricky course Got soaked walking the dogs today and my face battered by nasty hail but the boys had great fun in all the mud and puddles even though they are lurchers! Even friends dog who is spending the day with us had fun and he's usually the wimpiest in bad weather! House now stinks of wet dog - next house is having kitchen big enough to leave wet dogs in there!! RMQ does anybody have a van for their dogs? Know Billy does, but anybody else? especially if you have tall dogs? Ta!
  16. thinking of you and your family Alex Glad mummy owl is getting back to getting out and about Hoping things work out on the jobfromt for the gemstones lots of go away lurgy thoughts for lurgiefied ones! I'm on my old computer as my new one is dot happy so i'm typing and nothing is coming up until about 5 seconds after i stop! Actually more like 10 seconds! it's rather disconcerting! rmf - billy's breath smells like something has died in his mouth!! Hoping he's just eaten something nasty and it's not aproblem with his teefs!
  17. thanks folks Both nog and mollydogs recent injuries have made me think about the cost of insurance and the level of cover - Billy is stuck with petplan due to pre-exisiting eye problems, but I do think I'll move finn. Looking at the policies one of the ones reccommended wanted an excess plus a percentage, but will look at the others thanks again all knowing 'fugees!!!
  18. Bloomin insurance companies I have no problem paying for the risks, but a 3 year old crossbreed is not a high risk and neither is an 8 year old greyhound! Makes me cross cos I don't think the companies are being fair (I know that's not their job, but it irritates me!!) Hope Axa pay out nicely for Mollydog's leg
  19. Both of my boys are currently insured with Petplan, but I've just had Finn's renewal through and Petplan want just shy of £20 /month He's 3 and a crossbreed so this seems pretty expensive for their standard cover for £4000/condition and a £90 excess! I will stick with it if it offers the best cover but I've heard M&S are good, and they are quoting me £12/month for £7000 cover and £70 excess. My only concern is that Petplan cover conditions for life and I can't find anything on the M&S website about their policy on this. Anybody have any advice/input? Or other companies? Thanks
  20. Wiggle and Sir H sharing! Lovely to see. I've been to agility training today and done nearly an hour and a half with Finn followed by an hour with Billy. They are both now soundly asleep, and I would really like to be but I have work to do
  21. Brilliant!! I love this thread That Harry Hill clip
  22. Thanks for the ideas Ponte racecourse is quite nice but doggylover is right, it gets very close to the M1!! It is huge though and pretty nice. In the end we went to Temple Newsome which was lovely - though we didn't find the best bits until our way back. Would have been better if there hadn't been hundreds of other dogs doing a dogs trust sponsored walk or similar!! Was a tad busy so the naughty dogs didn't get off lead much, but we'll definately revisit. Also has a lovely and not too expensive coffee shop with loads of outdoor tables, so all pretty dog friendly.
  23. I'm meeting a friend for a dog walk at the weekend and we are looking for somewhere fairly central for us both, so thinking somewhere in east of leeds, between wetherby, selby, pontefract area. Anybody have any suggestions? Be great if there was no livestock or large wildlife! Thanks
  24. Gorgeous boy He seems to be doing so well with you - good stuff
