  1. Thanks for that Yantan! I think I have used the Ancestry website as had a free 14 day trial. If I remember, it was very helpful in giving me information about my great grandads and their brothers details during the First World War and included their signing in papers which listed any children and their marriage details. Might start to have another look this afternon, if not tomorrow. Will be pm'ng you for advice no doubt!
  2. There's a Vision Express in my town centre. Will have a walk down there tomorrow and see if I can drop them off there. Thanks ClazUk and Nettie!
  3. When I was first made redundant, I started researching my family tree. I have gone back to the early 1800's on both my dad's and mam's sides of the family. However, there are loads of gaps of information along the way. I have been using Genes Reunited where I have started the family tree. From this, I have managed to find distant relations on both sides of the family who have been a great help in confirming what I had already and giving me new information. Including the fact that my maternal great great great great grandmother came all the way from either Papa Westray or Westray in the Orkneys to get married and live in South Shields! Her daughter in law (my great great great grandmother) came from Aberdeenshire as well to do the same! I am struggling to find information on my maternal grandfather's side and my great grandad as well. Plus, my paternal grandad was from a big family who it seems were all called George or Elizabeth so it is a bit confusing matching the right people up. Can anyone recommend any good sites to go onto to do my research? Could do with some tips on how to do my research properly as I seem to bounce from one side of the family to the other. Thanks!
  4. Just been rummaging through my bedside cabinet and came across two old pairs of glasses that I haven't worn in years. (They are a horrible style as well so I must be looked at right mess!) As I have recently got some new pairs, I have another two old pairs some where in the bedroom as well. Does anyone know whether any charities can take and use these glasses? If so, do you have any details for them? Thanks!
  5. Jan Since being made redundant at the end of April, I have had about twenty interviews for various admin jobs. I was getting very disheartened each time I got the "you didn't get the job" phoen call or letter. However, in the end, I got three job offers, two with the NHS! Since accepting the job with Sunderland Teaching Primary Care Trust, I have received more interview letters as well. As Careli says, the nhs website is very good. I used to receive the updates three times a week with the new listed jobs. The website keeps your applciation form so you only need to change certain bits to suit if needed rather than retyping everytime. The university websites may also have jobs listed suitable for you. I know Newcastle University is also advertising various secretarial type roles. Good luck!
  6. Just curious at the moment. Thanks for the info
  7. If any one thought their cat woudl be suitable as a donor, do you know if they would have to contact The Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies themselves or ask their vet to approach them?
  8. Tyne Tees had been showing a similar programme on Thursday nights. The last one was on last night. This was called K999 Detective I think and focused on Durham police dogs. What I saw last night seemed ok. They didn't show the dogs getting anyone, more explaining what would happen. One of the dogs went into a warehouse to look for a potential burglar, another tried to find someone who had a car accident and looed had wandered off into a field. One of the dogs was to retire and live with his handler who was training up a new dog as well.
  9. Councils should have equality and diversity procedures in place which will clearly state that they will treat everyone equally no matter what their religion, sexual orientation, marital status etc etc is. I have had a few job interviews with the local council and this is one question they always ask to make sure you know about equality and diversity and are willing to put it into practice. If I had been sensible two years ago, I would have accepted the job in my local registrar's office instead of staying put for a big more money. Eventually I would have got to perform marriages and civil partnerships.

If you have their e-mail address, I'm sure you can look them up that way as well.
  11. Received lot 312 "Marley and Me" book today, thanks Rudi! God job I checked the payment had been received as I forgot I had an extra donation, will have to pop into the bank tomorrow to put some money into the account.
  12. I'm Joanne and will answer to Jo, Jo jo, Josie even Josephina! Only my very gorgeous 3 year old nephew is allowed to call me the following: NANA. He gets himself confused as I do look a bit like my mam and I haven't got the heart to keep correcting every sentence.
  13. Thanks! Managed to get voucher but printers playing up at work so can't print it yet!
  14. I received a letter about sending in my electricity meter reading and on the bottom it said that you had to make sure any dogs were removed in another room whilst a meter reader was visiting. As my meter is at the bottom of the stairs next to the front door, I don't think I am going to put Suki away for a two second check when she is perfectly happy standing behind me on the stairs
  15. Was just going to say the same thing! Some external e-mails get held up (due to size of attachments) in a mail sweeper but I think it is more likely incoming mails that get held up (so make sure your mates don't swear as they always get held up!) We check the internet logs in this office for our company and it just shows which sites you were logged onto and for how long. They may still question why you were using web based e-mail though if you were on a certain length of time as that would show up for the type of website you were on. It's good job we check them and not someone else in the company as mine would show me being on animal sites and job sites all day
  16. Both are gorgeous and very lucky to be alive. Mum was on a fattening farm when she was rescued. If she had not been privately purchased, she would have had to endure a long trip to Italy before finally being slaughtered for food
  17. Hi I have never used any boarding kennels but I have heard that Triple A at Washington was supposed to be good. They used to have TVs in the kennels if you wanted. Feline Advisory Bureau have a list of recommended catteries, is there a similar list for kennels?
