  1. we won't rehome where a dog is to be left in an outdoor kennel, wether it has a run or not. That's mainly down to security concerns. very recently someone near here had their outbuildings broken into, but the dogs started barking so they broke into the kennels and took their dogs too. also as everyone is no doubt aware they get stolen for a lot of other less savoury reasons, breeding, use for fighting, use as bait for fighting..etc..I guess it depends on the area you live in...but theives are willing to travel.
  2. water pistols are very useful with cats. doesn't hurt them just annoys them enough to stop and you can catch them in the act.
  3. This is Charlie This is Charlie, he is an 8 year old crossbreed who came in after his owners were no longer able to care for him. He is a smashing lad, very friendly who loves a fuss and is a total cuddle monster. He has been with us a little while now but sadly keeps getting overlooked. He walks well on a lead and really enjoys his exersise. He walks well with other dogs, especially females but can be quite vocal in the kennels, we think a lot of this is down to stress. He will make a fantastic family pet or companion, but with him being a slightly older boy he is looking for a quieter home where he can chill out and make the most of life without the hassles of noisy young children. if you are interested in rehoming charlie please give us a call for a chat. 07743 773871 charlie is at RSPCA Leeds and Wakefield, west yorkshire all dogs are neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, flead & Wormed and come with 4 weeks petplan insurance. Donation fees apply.
  4. zena is reserved pending home visit. fingers crossed it works out for this girl at long last.
  5. not enough expletives to say what i think of these people
  6. must have changed then, my oh went to the states for an interview about something else a few years ago and they were asking a lot of cash per volunteer then.
  7. not sure about sea shepherd, i totally agree with what the founder set out to do, and I agree with the direct action. but have you seen the tv documentary? aside from their leader they don't seem all that organised or capable.Trouble seems to be too many people going for their year out style project and since you have to pay to get on the crew it's only available to a select few who aren't necessarily the most commited or experienced for the job. don't get me wrong i do like them,i just think they could use what they have a lot better.credit to em for putting their necks on the line tho. i support wspa but i wish they'd stop sending me so much stuff in the mail, i give em my money for the animals not for a magazine or postcards.
  8. are these still on offer? or is it just the original ten? If they are still going i would be interested in one for my doglet.
  9. hugs for you and her. Hope the day went well.
  10. where in the country are you? maybe someone on here is nearby and can meet up with you in person. Bit odd maybe but if it gives you someone to talk to who you have shared interest with (dogs).alternativly are there any support groups near you? take care
  11. absolutly agree kathy that new owners need to prove themselves to you, but making her sound as wonderful as she is in an advert is not "selling her". It's just making the right people see how beutiful and friendly she is. Just becuase a rescue may list a dogs good points and doesn't say every single thing that isn't allowed doesn't mean they won't do thorough home visits and check out new owners before it goes any further. Photo's always get a better response as others have said, i mean realistically you could say she was any breed or cross you wanted if you're not putting a photo up people may be suspicious she is not what they are being told. We know you wouldn't do that, but other people out there who may make the most wonderful owners don't know you. I'm sure people on here would help out with home visits etc and even come get some photo's for you. This is the e-mail address we use to update details on dogsblog, i'm sure if you e-mail them and explain you're wanting to list your dog for rehoming o the rescue section they will be able to help [email protected] good luck
  12. This is Lucy She is a very small ( not much bigger than a JRT) SBT cross with tons of character who has been with us quite a while now with no interest at all! She is really really affectionate with people and will do her best to be up on your knee licking your face wherever possible! Sadly she does not get on with other animals so would need to be an only pet with a VERY secure garden so she couldn't escape and chase neighbouring cats and dogs, she would also need to be kept on lead when out on walks. She loves her exersise and is a very active dog and would be a great dog for running with. She would need a home where someone is home a lot of the day as she does have a tendency to be destructive, and she may benefit from crate training to help manage this issue. She would make a great companion dog for an active person, but is probably best not rehomed with young children as she will most likley chew their toys! She really is very very affectionate, and has so much love to give to whoever adopts her. if interested please call us Leeds and wakefield RSPCA 07743773871 She will be neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, wormed and flead.
  13. This is Zena She is a really lively girl, as you'd expect for her age.Been so big and giddy she can be a little clumsy! She's been with us 6 months now and is getting a little fed up with kennel life. She is a really loving girl who is just looking for that special someone to see through the giddy exterior and give her a chance! She is really friendly, but can occasionally bark when first meeting new people. She soon settles down again though and turns into a cuddle monster. She was rehomed once but only for a week as the owners felt she was getting a little big for her boots, and weren't prepared to work with her. She has been back in the kennels a long time now though and is much calmer than she was then. Zena is going to need an experienced large breed owner, where she won't be left alone too long. She is going to need plenty of exersise and would need to be around older children or adults only due to her bouncy and clumsy nature. for more information please give us a call leeds and wakefield rspca 07743773871 she is neutered, vaccinated, wormed, flead, microchipped and will come with 4 weeks insurance. We always do home visits and adoption fees apply
  14. This stunning girl is Tyler She came into us in September 2009, via the inspectors after a really poor start. She was tied outside and was being tormented by local children. When she first came in she was in pretty poor condition. About a month after she came in, in the space of one afternoon her neck had swollen to the point she had to be hospitalised for fear she wouldn't be able to breathe, after some emergency surgery a two inch sewing needle was removed from her neck, which was embedded very close to her spine. The only reason the swelling had come up so fast was that the needle had been in so long it had begun to rust inside her, and the flaking rust had caused the reaction. Tyler was good as gold with all the vets at the time and god only knows what the poor girl had gone through in her previous home. As a result of the appalling start she does have a few issues She hasn't had much socialisation with people, so can be quite wary when she first meets new people and quite vocal, but once she knows you, which doesn't take long at all..she is so very affectionate. She seems to prefer women to men but with a bit of time i'm sure she would come round to anyone interested. She hasn't had any socialisation with dogs either so is very vocal around them and would need to be an only pet.We have been working on this and walking her on lead alongside other dogs and she is improving. She is very intelligent and loves to play! she's very good at basic commands if you have her toy in your hands. She is going to need a very experienced owner who is willing to put in the time and effort to help bring her around and socialise her better. She will need to be an only pet, and will need a quieter, child free home where someone is around most of the day as she is very lively and will need lots of stimulation to keep her occupied. She doesn't show herself well in kennels but fingers crossed the right person is out there and will give this girl the loving caring home she deserves. She is currently receiving help from a behaviourist who is willing to work with anyone who adopts her to keep together a training programme for her. Given a chance, Tyler will be the most amazingly loyal girl. we will rehome anywhere in the yorkshire, manchester and hull areas, or possibly further afield providing any potential adopters are willing to travel to see Tyler on a few occasions first. We always do home visits. if you think you can give this girl the home she deserves please call the Leeds & Wakefield RSPCA dog adoptions number on 07743773871. She really is very affectionate once she knows you.
  15. can you ask cinnamon trust about a volunteer walker just until you can rehome her? i walk for them they do have a few volunteers in hudds area.
  16. we've started using scullcaap and valerian tablets from dorwest on dogs at work, and have seen definate results. we're also about to try a skin balm on a dog too but they seem to do a massive range. no idea if the others work though. delivery has been great, very fast and good prices. http://www.dorwest.com/
  17. yeah it stays on him pretty good. We leave it on him overnight and during the day when he is unattended. He occasionally manages to get one of his back legs out of it, but i think that's my fault as i ordered the biggest size going on the theory too big is better than too small. He seems to be healing well under it, slow process admittedly but getting there. The scratching has gone down lots, but he is on steroids as well so not sure which is having the most effect. Overall though it seems very good, doesn't seem to be making him too hot and itchy or anything.and he doesn't try and get it off or anything.we walk him on the harness becuase although you can't see it where he was wearing a collar he has no fur left so walking him on a lead is quite uncomfy for him as he pulls on the lead. i would def recommend them to anyone else, just measure the dog right from the websites directions ( it's from the front of the collar round the neck to the base of tail). They have quite a lot of stretch in them and are very easy to fit. ta fugees for the recommendation
  18. well the equafleece arrived monday..good old royal mail taking 4 days for a first class item..grr here is some not so great piccies of the lovely ben in his new togs hard to see it cos the equafleece does a good job of covering the poor boy, but aside from the bits on his face you can see the baldness on his tail and just see the bald bits poking through on the back legs..all his back is like that, poor lad. However he is now on steroids, antibiotics and tasty food so will hopefully be on the mend very soon. ta fugees for all your help
  19. so sorry. your parents did a fantastic job caring for him.
  20. yep contact ACAS. they give free advice. They can also send a representative in with you i believe. sounds like your employer is being a right a**e. to you.
  21. those solid plastic bottles on zooplus are pretty good too..hunter treat bottles or something
  22. is she on dogsblog? we put a lot of our dogs on there and get a good response. Also don't give up..we rehomed a 5/6 yr old neo mastiff with chronic hip dysplacia, ligament problems and spondulitis..he went to a permanent foster with another dog, we just pay for meds to keep him comfy. so sorry you are having to do this, but ( and i'm sure you wouldn't) don't rush it, the right home is out there it may just take time. Are there any breed rescue sites you can put her on?
  23. So sorry to hear this, at least if she comes home she can enjoy whatever she has left and be surrounded by the people and things she cares about.
